I have a channel to direct solutions to some people who can create real change. The following was sent to me. If anyone has an idea, please email me and I will forward them.

-- Forwarded Message --
In view of yesterday's cowardly act of war against the USA, I thought we might turn our "S&E" minds to technical ideas that might prevent or at least help commercial air crews and/or passengers deal with the situations that appear to have confronted them yesterday. Further, you may have some ideas on better means of explosives and/or weapons' detection prior to entering aircraft.

Obviously, you must (and I am sure that most of you are doing) listen to, watch and understand our attackers' mode of operation before you conceive your idea.

While our area of expertise is armaments, we are blessed with many fertile minds among us. So, don't let our armament mission "bound" your thinking; yesterday's events demand the use of all of America's resources -- in this case our technical minds.

Example: [deleted name] thought about using "smart gun" technology to prevent anyone but a "recognized" pilot from using an aircrafts' joy-stick/steering mechanism.

If your ideas do not "fit" the [deleted activity name] mission, we will get them to the right agency.

Forward your ideas with as much detail as possible to me.
-- End --

Thank you in advance.

Biometric measures to prevent anyone but those authorized to do so from controlling a plane in any capacity.

Scott, do you realize where you posted this?

Seriously, though, I have often wondered why there isn't any type of surveillance equipment, ie video cameras and the like aboard aircraft. It seems simple and logical enough, and might also aid in the apprehension of criminals "on the lam", in addition to identifying hijackers and the like.
