PS2 Problem

It was working fine up to like a week and a half ago. Then when I put in ASB2005 it started making some kind of buzzing noise but it keeps workin no problem. I put in GTA3 yesterday, it starts making that same noise, then like 10 minutes into the game it says GTA3 DVD read error or something like that but it starts back up a few secs later. It did that a few times but I was too lazy to go take a look. Now I just tried to put it in and the PS2 cant read the disc. And the disc doesnt even show up on the browser thing where it shows your memory cards. I tried putting in some other games and it doesnt read 'em. Anyone know what the problem could be? Can I fix it myself or do I have to take it somewhere?

the ps2 is a crap product........this is starting to happen everywhere now. mine and two of my freinds did this in the past month. it appears that the machine just dies rather quickly. I think it can be repaired but its like 50 bucks or so. good luck.

Ah, the dreaded disc read error. They should replace that with "You're fucked."

If you search for PS2 Disc read error you can find online tutorials on how to fix it yourself. However, if you open your PS2 you void the warranty and kill the slim, slim possibility that Sony will fix it for you for free. I tried fixing it myself and it didn't work. Of course, if you send it to them it just ends up breaking again. That happened to me twice. I ended up buying a new one.

I had the original Playstation break on me twice too. If Square made Final Fantasy for another system I'd never buy Playstation product again because this is just ridiculous.

Yeah, XBOX has problems much like those of the PS2. Most new EA games, anything thats come out in the last 12 or 13 months has a ton of problems similar to that of the PS2. As far as the XBOX goes, thats due to its DVD drive, but i dont want to go buy another XBOX.

I've never had a problem with my Gamecube but have gone through hell with my Xbox and to some degree with my PS2.

Of course I got the shitty Thompson drive for Xbox which cannot read burned CDs which means using the custom soundtrack feature in games is useless. Also the Thompson has problmes reading a bunch of games. Then with my PS2 sometimes it can't read blue back discs, thats great. I just bought Ico the other day and it took about 10 trys and 2 uses of my game doctor to get it working.

Go with Gamecube. I haven't had the slightest problem with it. Although the thing is so loud you'll think there's something wrong.

I havent had any problems(so far) with my xbox and gamecube, I did have PS2 but got bored to shit with that so I just sold it to a co-worker for cheap

whne did you get your ps2? was one of the first batches sent over? cuz i recieved mine the february after it was released (october i think) and it works fine. although i havent used it since i got mvp 2004 in march. and the ps2 isnt a crap product, its predecessor was flimsy compared to it.

I had this same problem maybe 6 months after I bought my PS2 on the day they were released. I had no problems with sending it back to Sony and getting it repaired. It's worked fine since then.

I did...even bought a Cd and a DVD laser lens cleaner...nada...I figure Ill just take it to the video game store by my house and get it fixed for like 50 bucks...either that or buy a new or used one...
