Alright, so I've never claimed to be the most "plugged in" person when it comes to music. I've heard of this band by name only before, and even then only on the periphery. From what I understand they're somewhat darlings of the underground scene. This song that's on the radio is the only one of their's that I've heard. It's a good song; fun, catchy. I like it, but I do have one complaint, well more of an observation really. They couldn't sound more like Dexy's Midnight Runners if they were wearing overalls and playing a wash tub bass. (I know wearing overalls has nothing to do with sound, but it's the spirit of the statement you should pay attention to.) Is this song representative of their catalog as a whole, or does their sound vary song to song? I literally thought Dexy's had put out a new single the first time I heard it.

Eh, I hate starting new threads so I'll just bump this 5 year old one.
Modest Mouse recently released an EP and I love everything I've heard from it so far.
I had listened to their last two albums and enjoyed them, but I wasn't a huge, huge fan. Then one day they played "Polar Opposites" to open Ron and Fez and I downloaded their whole catalog. I never really listened to it much, but recently listened to "The Moon & Antarctica".
Holy shit, I've been missing out. Between that album and "The Lonesome Crowded West", it's all I've been listening to for the last couple weeks. The albums are downright beautiful. I don't know how I ignored this band for so long, but I've been catching up since I realized my mistake.
So yeah, Modest Mouse is fucking great.

Knowing you don't like a band is like a badge of honor now. It makes me realize how great they are.
I've never seen a musician scared of a little depth in music. It's crazy.

Aren't you like The Monkees biggest fan, anyway? I thought you idolized their guitarist or something.

I like their older stuff.
Talking Shit about a pretty sunset is probably one of my favorite songs of theirs.
Also it's weird how much they changed since that cd. They really were deep and awesome.

I really like them. The fact that they change their sound with almost every album makes me admire them more. It's the same reason I'm enthralled with Thrice.

Saw them tonight at the Wellmont in Jersey.
It was my first time seeing them. They were great, but the show just ended weird. They ended on zero energy, almost seemed like they cut it short (after 2hrs).

I've heard that when they play live they're weird. That Issac is a card (as an older person would say).
I've read stories about how he's cut himself on stage and whatnot. Kind of odd when you think about how their music sounds, but then again if you listen to their song "Medication" I guess it makes sense.
