I only remember one Bugs Bunny episode. The one where he was hunting with Elmer Fudd. Daffy was in it to and the dumbass managed to get shot for something.

And I love the Gossamer ones, too. Although, he had another name in the one with the mad scientist.

I was going to stick to Bugs episodes only, but since Jon brought up Daffy:

Two that stick out for me are Daffy and Porky Pig teamups:
Robin Hood Daffy

The one where Bugs and Daffy are doing a show, trying to out due each other, and then Daffy wins by drinking the explosives.

From the gravy thread, the WB one with the cat, mouse and the dog: "This time, we didn't forget the gravy!"

Daffy as the insurance saleman, selling a policy to Porky:
Daffy: "July 4th....hail storm...black eye..."
blah blah blah
"...and one baby zebra!"
Porky: "PAAAAY ME!"

The Marvin the Martian episode with "The Earth shattering Kaboom." Every time I'm in radio shack, I find myself picking up a particular piece of equipment & proclaiming that I have found the "R - F Mod-joo-la-tor" in Marvin's voice. I usually only amuse myself, but sometimes my ex would laugh.

The Bugs & Gossamer episode that spawned the quote:
Bugs: "Name?"
Gossamer: "Sloshumslosher"
Bugs: "Occupation?"
Gossamer: "Sloshumslosher"

Also, the Charlie Dog in Italy cartoon.
"I'm gonna have a piazza...I'm gonna have a piazza"
"Help!...doesn't any body capisce?"

The Banned Ones. Seriously, amazing to look back at these, at this time in the art of cartooning, when it was real drawings and no computers, and Carl Stalling directing an orchestra of 75.

There are many WB cartoons no longer seen. Some with Japanese WW2 themes, some an all-black parody of Snow White. You gotta admit; white folks have always admired the culture, the music, and everything else we stole. OK thats oversimplifying so dont flame me.

And what a Hot piece of Ass at the stove. If anyone or the Mods find them offensive, I'll pull em. Some ScreenCaps:

[Edit: the last one, even I think is offensive; they sort of hrew this in real quick in a sequence where a black guy is at the Pearly Gates or at Hell, and Satan is checking out the list of crimes "NicoDemus" committed while alive. Stealing watermelons? Sheeesh. Ouch. I agree.]

And let's not forget the follow up spell..."Walla-walla Washington" to turn her into a Two-headed vulture.

My favorite was the Bugs/Daffy/Elmer Fudd hunting scene...

Bugs: That's an Elephant gun doc.
Elmer: It is?
Bugs: You can't shoot rabbits with an elephant gun, you have to shoot ELEPHANTS with an elephant gun
Elephant that suddenly appears: YOU DO AND I'LL GIVE YOU SUCH A PINCH! (steps on Elmer)
CLASSIC!

Wow I totally forgot.

Ok please dont flame me for this, but being a huge Yes fan [the Progressive band, not the Cable Network] Ive seen them a bunch of times, and during the 90125 tour, um 1984-ish? When they played the Continental Arena, and also one other place, Garden or PNC, cant remember;

Anyway, they played Bugs Bunny cartoons on this HUGE screen, and it ROCKED! Much better then the Band, I'm sure many would say; hard to disagree.

Anyway, it was 20,000 people all watching Bugs Cartoons. I think there were three. I remember two; the one where Bugs either fights the bull or the Wrestler,

but Definately the One they played and the one that had people cheering Insanely was the Mad Scientist One, with the Monster, ya know Bugs is asleep and theres a storm and he floats out of his hole and down next to the Evil Scientist Castle with the Neon Sign:

"Evil Scientist"

"Boo"

and the loudest cheers were when the Ether Bottle Breaks:

"Come...back ... here ... you ... rab .. bit..."

"nighty night..."

and Bugs floats back to his Flooded Domain.

Hope I'm getting the whole cartoon correct, but it was great. Sure beat some lame ass warm up band.

Mike, you were posting pics from "Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarves," which I don't think has ever even been released on video or DVD.

It's a shame, too, because while, yes, it's clearly VERY dated and kind of offensive, it's not what I would call "purposely" racist...more like a product of the time. It was made with the voice and music talents of a lot of the biggest black jazz and blues figures of the time, and from that context, it's fantastic. Lots of original music pieces that can't be found anywhere else which are phenomenal.

On the other hand, the other famous "banned" WB cartoon, "Bugs Bunny Nips The Nips" is pretty much just a blatant propaganda film, and really is low on the high level of comedy WB was known for back then.

Mike, you're bringing back some bad memories. I caught that same show in Cleveland (Richfield) on a "school night"... Wednesday, May 02, 1984 (20 years and 10 days ago).

http://www.forgottenyesterdays.com/graphics/6_120_9.jpg

As I remember, "BERLIN" was supposed to open for them, but just like you said, when we got there they were playing the same Bugs Bunny episodes you described... and they were definitely better than goddammed "BERLIN". We'd pretty much planned to cruise the concourse for chicks while they were playing anyway, until we heard the ROAR of the crowd when Bugs came on the screen.

Other than those... "First Base, Bugs Bunny, Second Base, Bugs Bunny, Third Base, Bugs Bunny..."

O Lovely JEN. great thread!

I remember watching a video with some episodes that you just see anymore.

"Truth or AAAAHH"

It was a game show, and Porky Pig..( or Elmer Fudd ) is the nervous contestant, being asked impossiby ridiculous questions.
If he doesn't get them right, The Rock of Gibraltor or something drops on his head...
...It went sort of like this:

FX: A single note is played.

Host: " NAME the Opera that Tune is from!"

Elmer..or Porky ( shucks, I can't remember which), who is sweating replies:
" Jeez..uh.... 'La Boheme' ?

The host turns to the studio audience for the answer, and they collectively shout:
" RIGOLETTO!!"

( Does anyone recall that one? )

```````````````
I saw the wonderful Chuck Jones give a lecture at Berkeley a few years ago, and he was the sweetest, funniest and most modest man.
He seemed truly amazed that everyone there knew EACH line.
Anyway, after showing about five of his favorite Bugs episodes
( which include the 'Rabbit of Seville' - another classic )
...One very pompous idiot decided to "challenge" Mr. Jones during the QnA by asking, " and also...what were the whole Bugs Bunny cross-dressing, and /or homosexual undertones( blah blah blah ) were in many of the episodes?"
Chuck Jones' simple and brilliant response:
" Uh..well, sir..we..uh.. just sort of thought it would be funny to ..uh..
... see Bugs in a dress.."
The audience erupted in laughter...
( I am sure that tool got a beating afterward )
I guess just saying every single Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck cartoons is a cop out.
So... I love the one when bugs says to the big orange guy, "Monsters are the most interesting people" all the while he's putting dynamite on the monsters fingers. And at the end the monster ends up really, really tiny.
These cartoons also gave me a great appreciation for classical music.
"Excuse me, excuse me I believe you have my stapler"
The one where Yosetime Sam wants to see the High Diving act, and makes Bugs jump, only Bugs turns it around and makes Sam jump about 50 times. That wascly wabbit!
And the original elmer scares the crap out of me. He's very creepy.
How about the Bugs/Sam episode where Sam inherits a ton of cash, but Bugs is the executor of the will & fines Sam for losing his cool.
That's true. He's got a "Jimmy Norton about 50 lbs heavier" look to him. :)
Similar to the Yosemite Sam high-dive episode is a Road Runner one where Wile E. falls off the cliff so often that in one of the last falls he's just looking aggravated with his arms crossed as he plummets to the ground.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hey, Jeff!

Yeah...Another CLASSIC!!
That is of course Wagner ( More Opera ).. didn't we all learn about Opera from watching Bugs Bunny?

In fact everytime I hear that in 'Apocolypse Now', I always think of "Kill the Wabbit, Kill the Wabbit......"

Also:
The 'Rabbit of Seville' had that hilarious scene when Elmer is getting the hair tonic massaged into his head, while the music is playing..
" Duh, duh, duh..duh-duh.."

..While weeds are sprouting out of Fudd's scalp.
Ha.

Was 'The Rabbit of Seville' also where the huge, Caruso- like Tenor is holding the last note..and he is turning blue, red, Ruins are crumbling around him, collar buttons popping open, etc.
I think Bugs ( as a sort of Toscanini -conductor ) keeps his hand up for the guy to hold the note..?

( Does anyone recall seeing,
" Truth or Ahhh!" ?
Jennie, you said you got the DVD set at Christmas, maybe it's on there... )

It's so depressing to catch any WB shows ( esp. Bugs ) on the Cartoon Network, now.
Obviously, They don't resemble the originals, or are oh-so-tame new ones.

BLASPHEMY!

" I'm dreaming of a Genie, she 's a light, brown Hare.."

Funny this thread started and look what happened yesterday:

Cartoon Star Burson in Police Siege

Bugs Bunny star Greg Burson has been arrested by detectives after barricading himself inside his Los Angeles home for six hours. The 54-year-old cartoon actor - who provides the voices for children's favorites Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Yogi Bear - screamed a stream of nonsensical words at cops who were alerted to his home after two women rang them claiming he was holding his roommate against her will. Armed Special Weapons And Tactics teams joined the stand-off which eventually ended when a seemingly inebriated Burson surrendered following hours of negotiations. Cops later discovered a collection of guns in his home. One officer says, "He was so drunk we couldn't tell if he was trying to do one of his voices or was just slurring his words." Officer Rudy Villarreal has confirmed all three women involved in the incident - who were unharmed - lived with Burson.

I remember going to see Batman in a theater in Virginia and they showed this one before the movie started. Without anyone prompting it, the entire theater was singing this all together.

Hilarious!!

Catcher in the Rye is ruined for me. I just can't read it without hearing the Abominable Snowman...kinda dispels the drama at the end.

At this point, I can't decide whether I want to see Jenni or Jon is her sundress. Probably depends on whether there is a breeze.

Need you ask?
Fast an Furryous comes to mind. My all time favorites are with Wile E and Bugs, though.

Wile E.: [sets up door outside rabbit hole, knocks] Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college. So let's get down to cases. You are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now, don't try to get away. I am more cunning, more muscular, faster and larger than you are, annnnnd I'm a genius. While you could hardly pass the entrance examination to Kindergarten. So, I'll give you the customary 2 minutes to say your prayers.

Bugs: I'm sorry Mac, the lady of the house ain't home. And besides, we mailed you people a check last week. [slams door shut]

Wile E.: [takes down door] Why do they always want to do it the hard way?

As for other WB cartoons, when I used to work in TV, I would get in to the control room and turn on Pinky and the Brain while I set up for the day. I got pissed off when they added Elmira to it. Ruined the whole formula. Pinky always cracked me up. Paulsen is a great voice artist.

Actually, one of the quotes is "HOBOKEN???? OHHH I'm DYYYYYYIN!"

105.5 WDHA in NJ used to play that all the time in the morning show whenever there was traffic in Hoboken.

The other great Bugs Bunny way to sign off the show was

HQ: Earth Calling Bugs Bunny, Earth calling Bugs Bunny...are you there? Are you there? Come in Bugs Bunny
Bugs: This is Bugs Bunny, I can read you...over.
Hq: Have you arrived safely on the moon?
Bugs: Yes I have arrived on the moon
Hq (while shushing all the scientists who are whispering in the background): Have you prepared a statement for the press??
Bugs: Why, uh, yes I HAVE prepared a statement.
GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!!!!
cue end music.

Just awsome.
