Coughlin turns up heat, and some are already complaining to union about new coach's methods (http://www.nynewsday.com/sports/football/giants/ny-sbgiants073791689may07,0,5424702.story?coll=ny-football-headlines)

Giants officials declined to comment but are cooperating and believe they have followed the rules. Still, Coughlin clearly has been pushing the envelope. Under Jim Fassel, players worked out about 45 minutes a day Monday through Thursday.

Coughlin gives them Wednesdays off and has them in on Fridays - eliminating cherished long weekends - and they work out for about two hours. Last week, he added meetings to the schedule.

The man sounds like an absolute....FOOTBALL COACH!. The Giants were 4-12 last year. Now they are crying because he wants them to work 2 hours a day 4 days a week. That's not a good sign.

I can only hope the complainers loose this case and Tommy drills them to death once he's allowed to. Then I want them cut but still, hopefully the Giants loose consistantly even with a hard-ass in charge.

They cry about Coughlin pushin them too hard yet they never stop to think that maybe because Fassel was way too easy on them is the reason they sucked balls last year. Youd think as professionals who are making anywhere from 200,000 to 10 million dollars a season they would be willing to work that much harder to win, but no, instead they whine and bitch to the union. Pathetic.

I don't quite think you all understand the issue. The problem is not that the Giants are too pussy for his workouts. The Union and the league signed a CBA, and the CBA has very specific wording as to when mini camps can be held, and to how long these mini camps can last.

If Coughlin is disregarding these rules, that is a serious problem. As soon as one rule is broken, and it becomes harder and harder to enforce the other rules and policies written in the CBA.

i can see the issue from both sides. on the one hand, the giants shouldnt bitch about what is essentially their jobs. compound that with the fact that they're coming off a putrid season.

on the other hand, if the long practices are indeed a violation of the cba, then the players do have a right to bitch. and considering this is only the NON-MANDATORY(yeah right) mini-camp, the players have an even stronger case.

coughlin should just meet them in the middle.

No. Coughlin should conform to the CBA. I really don't think that the players are bitching that they have to work, I think they're bitching because the team is not acting in accordance to the CBA.

Regardless if it sounds like the players are being huge pussies, it is not right of the Giants to disregard the CBA. It is Coughlin's job to act in accordance to the rules set forth by the league that employs him.

Where in the world does a 4-12 team get the right to bitch that the coach makes them work hard at being a better team????
I agree with Snoogs...I am ashamed to be a fan of the Giants.
They better get their asses in gear here.
I hope the negative reaction from the fans makes it into their head and they change their attitude.
Did they say WHO exactly was unhappy with the coach?

Sometimes I really feel like I'm talking to a wall.

I'm going to use a larger font in order to make my point:

THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE WHERE THE PLAYERS ARE BEING PUSSIES. THE GIANTS ARE POSSIBLY VIOLATING THE CBA. THE CBA IS A LEGALLY BINDING DOCUMENT, AND THEREFORE THE LEAGUE, THE PLAYERS, AND ANYONE ELSE INVOLVED IN ITS SIGNING CANNOT VIOLATE ANY RULE/STIPULATION/REGULATION/CLAUSE FOR ANY REASON. I AGREE THAT THE PLAYERS NEED A LITTLE DISCIPLINE, IT WOULD DO THEM RIGHT. BUT IF THE UNION LETS THIS SLIDE, THEN THEY WILL HAVE A HARD TIME ENFORCING ANY PART OF THE CBA IN THE FUTURE. THAT IS A BAD THING.
