View Full Version : Frucktose?

During the fast food discussion, Mike the Teacher said "frucktose" when discussing the current formulas of coke and pepsi. Now, I've even heard that pronunciation, so I had to look it up. Apparently, it's ok to say "frucktose" or "frooktose." I hate words like that.. is it some kind of regional thing? Maybe it's like when some people spell it "theatre" or "grey" just to be different. How do you say "fructose"?

Nice! I got noticed!

ADF get your ass to the show.

As to the pronunciation, there *is* a 'correct' pronunciation, but i'm not telling; knowing how often i am wrong, you can guess.

[Edit: You are correct, it is pronounced Fruck [rhymes with Fuck] and Frook [rhymes with Rook]
AND Some pronounce it Fruke [Rhymes with Puke], a subtle but definite variation.

Which would beg the question as to how to pronounce Protein.

Normally, I spell it "gray," although I occasionally throw in the "grey" when I want to look fancy. I'll go back and forth on the "theatre/theater" thing, too. I never, ever say "aluminium," though.

Oh, then I guess I go with "fruketose." I meant "frook" like "took." Wait, that doesn't work, either.. hmm.. ok, "fruketose" it is.
