so which episode do you think is the worst?
although alot of the celebrity cameo and early episodes rank up there, my all time worst episode is the michael jackson "lisa it's your birthday" episode.
i despise that one

Any of the shows with Sideshow Bob. It might just be my hatred of Kelsey Grammer though.

Agreed, the Lisa Michael Jackson one was afwul. A lot of the older episodes had plots that well...wouldnt pass today, so those are pretty bad also, plus the drawings are bad. The older one where they go camping and Maggie is with the bears sucked and they seem to replay that one a lot compared to the other older ones.

The one where Homer buys Marge a bowling ball and she almost cheats on him. Just awful.
I prefer the crappy unrealism of today over that. So so much funnier, which is what a cartoon should be about.

I'd say season 4-5 was where they really turned it around. The past few seasons have been so-so, but it seems like they're getting back in their groove this season.

Any episode where they did the finger under the collar/Nervous grunt bit. They did that in 8 episodes straight one season.

How come no one has mentioned the one with Mel Gibson yet?
But I have to object to this thread on principle. Hey Mojo and M1, lets start a 'even the worst episode of the Simpsons is better than 99.5 percent of all TV ever created' thread.

I totally agree. I'm shocked to see that so many people dislike the earlier episodes. I think the worst was the most obvious: the horse racing episode which intorduced us to "Worst episode ever". I think the writers included that just to cover their asses for such a shit job.

Life on the Fast Lane (a.k.a. Jacques to be Wild) might have my favourite line ever:
Marge: What's Brunch?
Jacques: You'd love it, It's not quite breakfast, it's not quite lunch, but it comes with a slice of cantaloupe at the end. You don't get completely what you would at breakfast, but you get a good meal!
Marge: I don't think so.
Jacques: Marge, darling. There are ten pins in my heart, you've knocked over eight. Won't you please pick up that spare?
Marge: [hesitantly] Mmmm, mmmmm... All right!

'I'm going to back seat of my car with the woman I love, and I won't be back for ten minutes.'
Other great lines from the first season:
Crepes of Wrath:
Skinner: "For one thing, you won't be getting a French student, you'll be getting an Albanian"
Homer: "You mean all white with pink eyes?"
Call of the Simpsons:
Lisa: Remember, Dad. The handle of the Big Dipper points towards the North Star.
Homer: Heh heh, that's nice, Lisa. But we're not in astronomy class. We're in the woods.

Krusty is framed
Personally, I think it's one of the BEST ones. It may be the episode that got me hooked on the show.
It's hard for me to pick a "bad" episode because there will be a couple of lines or scenes I'll find funny. But, in keeping with the spirit of the thread, I never really liked "The Lemon Tree" epsiode.

YES. I was living in Paris at the time, and my first taste of the show was a tape of the first 8 or 9 episodes sent to us, and this episode was the third one I saw. The first two left me sorta "eh," but something about "Krusty Gets Busted" just clicked and I've been hooked ever since. Even converted my parents at the same time, who were set in stone that cartoons were only for kids. Now I think my dad is a bigger "Simpsons" fan these days than I am.

No, but it makes me think of the gag with Lisa and the peach tree from another episode, which makes me laugh because I had a girlfriend who would "sing-talk" things like Lisa does as she dances around the peach tree, so I guess by default "The Lemon Tree" tickles my funny bone, three times removed or something.

I think this thread is pretty pointless. I agree wholeheartedly with Freakshow. All Simpsons episodes have been better than at least 90% of what's on now. Although I never liked the "Bart stealing the videogame" one. I loved the Lemon Tree. (great haircuts)

Okay, just making sure.
And worst episode ever would have to be one involving the Comic Book Guy. Where he has a heart attack, lets Bart and Millhouse take over running the shop, and starts dating Mrs. Skinner.

I always liked the Lemon Tree one. I'm very proud of my hometown and into that whole Frank Capra genre that glorifies the American hometown so maybe it appeals to that side of me.
I'm seeing a lot of the episodes that I like the most being listed here. Hopefully nobody says the Softball episode or the one where Homer finds the sugar.

All right. Last night's 8:00 one was the worst ever. I don't know what they were thinking. And I don't think seeing again would help. It wouldn't hold up the worst of the clip shows.
The one at 9:30, though, was pretty good, for a newer one.

You beat me to it. That episode just plain SUCKED! Someone should tell Groening to save the politcal humor for people who can pull it off (South Park) and stick to Homer doing dumb shit.
When the Simpsons is good, it's great. When it is like that episode its painful.

That was the political one, right? I thought it was alright for the first ten minutes, then it took a huge nosedive.
Patches is right, though. South Park seems to be the only toon out there that can handle current events / politics well and maintain the amusement.
