View Full Version : Its post time! 130th Kentucky Derby fake wagering
stickyfingers
04-29-2004, 10:42 AM
Im back to take your bets. The Kentucky Derby is this Weekend (saturday @ 6:04 pm). There are 20 Horses in this years field...that's a lot. Everyone that wishes to participate will be given 1000 fake scheckles. You can wager however you wish on the following types of wagers: Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta.
Explanation of Wagers:
Win- 1st place...you only win if the horse wins
Place- 2nd place...this wager wins if the horse finishes 1st or 2nd
Show- 3rd place...this wager wins if the horse finishes 1st, 2nd, or 3rd
Exacta- Predicting the order of the 1st two finishers...i.e. Smarty Jones with Imperialism would mean that you want Smarty Jones to win and Imperialism to finish 2nd....If you 'BOX' it then it can finish either way but costs twice as much
Trifecta- Predicting the order of finish of the 1st 3 horses....same as exacta....Be careful when figuring how much it costs...it can be tricky.
Good Luck and check back frequently in case a mistake was made by you or I. Here are the horses and the morning line odds....these odds will change and payoffs will be according to final odds at the time of the race.
(#, Horse.......................Jockey,........opening odds)
1) Limehouse...............Jose Santos...........30-1
2) Song of the Sword.....N. Arroyo..............30-1
3) Lion Heart..................Mike Smith..........10-1
4) Action This Day..........David Flores.........30-1
5) Wimbledon.................Jerry Bailey..........15-1
6) Friends Lake............Richard Migliore......15-1
7) Minister Eric..................Pat Day............30-1
8) Master David..............Alex Solis............12-1
9) St. Averil...................Tyler Baze...........30-1
10) Imperialism...........Kent Desormeaux.....15-1
11) The Cliffs Edge..........Shane Sellers........4-1
12) Borrego.................Victor Espinoza.......20-1
13) Birdstone...................Edgar Prado.......50-1
14) Read the Footnotes...Rob Alborado.......12-1
15) Smarty Jones.............Stewart Elliot.......9-2
16) Castledale(ireland)....Jose Valdivia........15-1
17) Pollards Vision.......John Velazquez........20-1
18) Tapit....................Ramon Dominguez.....8-1
19) Pro Prado.................John McKee..........30-1
20) Quintons Gold Rush...Corey Nakatani.....20-1
Remember you get 1000 fake dollars...no more!

Well, aside from what I said in my original post I don't know what else to tell you.
Win- 1st
Place-1st or 2nd (usually pays less than win but you have a better chance)
Show- 1st, 2nd, or 3rd (usually pays less than Place but you have a better chance)
Exacta- Picking in Exact order of the first two finishers (you can pick multiple horses)
Example: Smarty Jones, Imperialism with Smarty Jones, Imperialism, Tapit, LionHeart
this would mean that you want either Smarty Jones or Imperialism to win.....and....Smarty Jones, Imperialism, Tapit, OR Lionheart to finish 2nd
There are 6 Combinations there so your bet would cost you 6 times the amount...If you did the Exacta for 20 bucks it would cost 120
The trifecta works the same way
Trifecta- Picking the Exact Order of the first 3 finishers

I'll bet the horse who comes in 1st to win, the horse who comes in 2nd to place and the horse who comes in 3rd to show.
And the horse who comes in last to be made glue out of.
Or White Castle hamburgers.
Whichever.

Pie-O-My to Win.
I believe also in this type of racing its Paramutual [sp?] Betting; where the odds are adjusted as the race nears, according to, at least in part [full?]; how much money is being bet on each horse. Someone with a clue, help. And I live 10 minutes from Monmouth Park. Ack!
Hey but I know all about Lasix!

Mike the T....I go to Monmouth all the time. Pari-mutual wagering is based completely on how much is bet on everyhorse and combination of horses. If alot of money is put on a particular horse his odds go down. This is because there is only a certain amount of money in the pool. And the track uses that money to pay out. Therefore, they would have to pay less to each winner in order to use the exact amount that is in the pool.
Always bet a horse that is 1st time Lasix...you never know

Yeah Sticky thats what they said about Lasix. I used to go there a lot, but not to bet. Guy I knew worked there on the Computerized Amtote Betting Machines.
What a crazy place. It stays open all year to broadcast Races from other tracks. And the people bet, and scream at TVs. I go in and watch the real addicts, the ones who have No Joy, even when they Win it was shit. I'd see the real regulars; holding their papers and the sheets people sell there with their picks, and bet, and scream at TVs in the winter.
Yeah I know its way close to me and way far away from most here but I tink Sticky would agree; great place for a group meeting; they have the stands, picnic areas, and if ya want? You throw a Twenski on some long shots or a Trifecta.

wow....i love it....that was exactly how that race was supposed to go.
Horses are funny animals. When its muddy, those horses that trail are getting pounded with mud in thier eyes, nose, and mouth. They don't want to run towards the mud so they don't....therefore, front end horses win. That makes me a winner and I am happy. Smarty Jones added Lasix for the first time....he couldn't lose...I think I just entered a new tax bracket.

I went to Delaware Park to watch the Derby and made the same bets I made here (with lower dollar amounts) so you pretty much know how that turned out.
The surprise came with the live racing. Frisky Spider and couple other former Triple Crown nominees were running in the 8th race there. I hit on an exacta box, which I would have hit on had I played it straight, and hit on win and place bets for that race so I came out a little ahead with the horses, which rarely happens.
I then went on to take a minor beating on the slots.
