I really enjoyed this movie. Great revenge movie and Denzel kicks some major ass in it. Lots of torture scenes too.

Saw this on Saturday night & loved it. Revenge movies are often great, and this one is no exception.

So damn good. I didnt realize just how long the movie was until I left the theater. But, I aint complainin. Well worth it, a revenge flick that was well-written, well-acted, and well-directed. Very rare.

First movie I walked out on all year so far.
Hm, shocker, a shitty Tony Scott film. Whoulda thunk?
Oh, and, Jeff? Exactly.

Regency Pictures producer Arnon Milchlen decided to remake his own film from 1987 that starred Scott Glenn as former black-op specialist hired to bodyguard a young daughter of an industrialist and the kidnapping plot in Italy that turns him into a killing machine. The 87 film was just a bad revenge movie, poorly executed and straight to vid. I do remember Joe Pesci in supporting role playing a guitar and having a nervous breakdown, otherwise just bad.
John Creasy is a drunk security specialist hired by business family Samuel and Lisa Ramos (singer-actor Marc Anthony and Radha Mitchell) to protect young Pita (Dakota Fanning is a wonder of major talent). Pita tries to win the friendship of Creasy but that would be a liability to her safety, but he gives in and develops a true friendship. Then she is kidnapped and Creasy is shot (by a cadre of corrupt cops). Then it sets up the mayhem!
Now Tony (Top Gun) Scott takes a shot at the revenge tale with big name Denzel Washington and hotshot writer Brian Helgeland (Mystic River) on hand, moving the story to Mexico City. Good move! But there is a few problems along the way, big ones. Scott made a Mexico set revenge movie called "Revenge" with Kevin Costner that was a pile of shit. Making some of the same mistakes as he did before by making the movie way too long with redundant torture scenes. I like violence but it goes from one scumbag to another with the same tone (except for a brilliant 5 minute sequence when John puts a bomb up a cops ass with a timer clicking away). It's just gets to much after a long while. Half of a good movie isn't enough, the scenes with Denzel and Dakota are top notch work. Radha Mitchell is stunningly pretty and has a few great scenes, the welcome support of Christopher Walken (YEAAAAA!) as John's best bud and is that Mickey Rourke? Yes!
I was disappointed with the outcome and Denzel rules! It's your call, and it was fine for a while but the camera is trippy and flashy. Try to enjoy, if you like the 'bomb up the ass' kinda thing.

Hey Little Tony HowyaDoin'!
I saw that 1987 figure before. What the fuck? Are we gonna remake movies that quick? Sheesh; I say 25 year minimum before someone is allowed to re-make a film. Even if it is a Shark Sandwich.
Why do I have a feeling Someone, somewhere, is pitching a re-make of Clerks?
::even worse, what if its Kevin?::
[And FHJ nailed it. Not only a remake of a movie; a remake of a role Washington has played many, many times]
