RF.Net's rules on banned members

[JustJon]

Since this is coming up repeatedly, I'm reiterating our rules...

If a member is banned, we will on comment on why we did it. If you were not involved, you do not need to know.

If a member is banned, they have no say on this board. If they create/use a new name, that name is banned too and the banishment is extended, if it's not a lifetime ban. Vacations are for members, not the screenname. If someone else posts on that person's behalf, no matter what the content is, the post is removed and the vacation is extended. We don't care if it's an attack or an update on how they're doing in real life.

Banned members may appeal their bans by approaching a mod/admin and having the issue discussed on their behalf in the staff room, where it will be discussed and voted on. If any rules are broken by them during their banishment, it's very unlikely it will be lifted early.




If you fuckers want to fight, go do it in PMs and IMs.

I had no idea one question would cause all of this. What ever "this" is. The only reason I asked was because Steels is popular and I thought it odd to see "On Vacation" in red, above his name since I know that's kind of a punishment.
I don't really travel out of the Ron and Fez forums so I wouldn't know what happened here.

I just read that old thread, and let me just say I'm amazed how serious people take this place.

Let me explain something to you guys.

This is a place for entertainment purposes only. Never EVER in your life will you be excepted for a job, because you're top dog at RonFez.Net. I see alot of you saying it, but I think you're just saying it to be an asshole, but this is just a message board. Think about what that means. A place people come to talk about day to day topics. A place to come for a laugh, talk about current events, and maybe make a friend.

This "Its just a messageboard" deal is very tired. What I dont get is why people would say this..over and over and over again, typing it in bold and then larger font etc to show a certain amount of passion towards the subject. When people visit this board, guess what, theyre on the board and thats what theyre doing at that particular time. If somebody was to show up on channel 4 News talking about how someone they knew got banned from ronfez.net, then it would be appropriate to show up here and say "its just a messageboard", becasue you see, showing up in a newspaper or on tv would be considered taking it too seriously. The only place to voice your opinions about this place (without taking it too seriously) is here. If "its just a messageboard", then do away with all the rules outside of the duplicate threads rule, because it doesnt matter what anybody says or does, because.........its just a messageboard. I'll take this oportunity to tell the person that shows up once or twice a month during an argument and exclaims with all his heart "THIS IS JUST A MESSAGEBOARD.....WAAAAAAA", to shut the fuck up with that same old boring line. (Not PanterA, this just happened to come after he said it)

I've had the feeling of being in the middle of an arguement of 9th graders. Actually, I dont want to rip on the 9th graders, most debate more maturely then some of the posts, and Pantera is so dead on; the fucking drama queens here. Flame away; tell me i'm wrong, I'm an asshole, whatever. But I'm not gonna make some big grandstanding exit, or start a thread to air my grievances.

If I have a greivance I can either handle it like an adult through IMs and PMs, or I can be that 5-year old who stamps his feet and demands everyone look at him. If the problem is legit, the Mods I'm sure will listen.

If they don't? Move On.

If you disagree? Move On.

If you dont like the board? Move On.

Life is too short to expend energy whining, bitching, and moaning.

Like I said; flame away. It's not gonna upset me. Maybe at 40 a re-prioritization occurs, but I have to say some of these posts are just so fucking immature and self-serving.

Make your own fucking site. It can be made on Yahoo in about 2 minutes.

Done. Flame On. Try and offend me. After dealing with two kids who tried to commit suicide because of the verbal berating by other students; it's not gonna offend me. It will show that you can't deal with your problems, your own failings, your own insecuritues, except at the level of a child. Dont project them onto others, which is Exactly what a hate-filled post is; a Reflection of the authors self-loathing.

If I was a mod, every person who made a drama-filled goodbye post would get banned.

The only people who are allowed to make goodbye posts are people who are leaving to go somewhere that has no internet, or are going off to war and have more important things to do than post here.

Steels made at least one goodbye post. He also bashed Jeff repeatedly, and said shit that if he was any other poster, would have made a perma-ban.

And clear up one misconception: no one gets banned for criticizing mods or admins. You're welcome to say whatever you want to about us or the way we run the board, we just prefer you'd do it in a way that would be in a more constructive way that could benefit us and the board.

And for further clarification, people can talk about banned members all they want. WE (The mods and admins) simply will not discuss why they were banned. Some people may view that as us "hiding" something, and that's their choice. We'll probably never convince them of anything otherwise and they've already made up their mind about us. We choose to view it as a chance for a banned member to exit quietly in case they wanted to "save face," as it were, meaning we're not going to make a big deal out of it when it happens, and we're not going to tell everyone on the board when it does. We're not going to reveal why or when they were banned on our end, so any rumors are only going to originate with any banned party. All bannings are discussed and voted on, but only between mods and nobody else. It's simply not anyone's business except for the mods and the person or persons being banned. If the banned member wishes to tell other people what happened, they can all they want...just not on the board. It's always been like that. At the most there might be a post saying something like, "OK, that's enough, you're gone" or "enjoy the vacation."

So, to simplify, if possible...talk about anyone all you want...nobody's name is forbidden. The mods and the banned person cannot discuss the specific details of the banning on the board.

AGAIN, if anyone has any questions about anything, feel free to ASK us. There's no need to accuse us of anything. Yes, we can view everyone's passwords, and yes, we can view everyone's IP's. No, nobody ever has been nor ever will be banned over this. It would be stupid to do so, since we're not hiding it, nor were we ever. It's the truth, and that's all I can possibly say. If anyone thinks I have a reason to lie about ANY of this...why the hell would I?

One might ask, "Why can't the mods just say 'so-and-so' was banned because he brought up old threads for no good reason? I mean, what's the big deal?" Say, for example, that a member was banned for something serious, such as harassment or the like... the mods obviously couldn't start chatting about that in a public forum. Now if the mods could talk about the everyday, humdrum bannings, but not the serious ones, we'd immediately know something was up if the mods said they couldn't talk about a particular banning. This precludes discussion of all bannings, even the trivial ones.

Technically, Pantera broke this rule in this very thread, so what do I know.

I'm always gonna leave something out or fuck up what I'm trying to say in these kinda threads. The "word of mods" is NOT "the word of God."

All I can always reiterate is we're not "out to get anyone," period. It's a free site. We don't "get" anything by banning people or starting shit. The place just is what it is. It's not perfect...we're not perfect...but we're not using it as a place to "get" people for ANYTHING. What the hell would be the point? This isn't my job. I come here on the side. Because I like it and the people here.

If anyone wants to think I have an "agenda," hey, I can't stop them. I know what I am and why I'm here. If somebody wants to think it's somehow more than that, great, more power to them. What can I possibly do to change their mind? Nothing. This site and board is what it is. Life goes on with or without it, me, or anyone else here.
