As a manager? To put over Benoit? Start over the Hart Foundation against Evolution? Wrestle (not sure if that is even possible)?

Well considering he can't ever wrestle again, he would be a great foil to Evolution if he brought together Canada's finest that would include Benoit, Edge, and possibly Chris Jericho to get him out of that Christian feud, and throw in Lance Storm for good measure.

I figure, if it didn't happen at Backlash, they shouldn't bother bringing Bret in at all. They completely wasted the most perfect setup they could have ever had for bringing him back.

HBK, doing the Sharpshooter to Chris Benoit, with Earl Hebner as the ref, in a title match, main event of a PPV - NO SETUP gets any better than that one.

After that, any other way of bringing him in would be a complete disappointment.
