I'm the computer guy in my family, but unfortunately my computer knowledge can be airbrushed on the head of a pin.
My Aunt was just given a laptop from her son with Windows XP. I installed her new Verizon DSL, then a D-Link router. Everything seemed to be working fine until the first time she tried to shut it down.
A file named "BLPGBPJB.exe" would not end task, so I had to force it to do so at shut down. I did a search & found the ".exe" file in the WINDOWS folder, and another by the same name in the System32 folder. I know better than to fuck with stuff in the System folder, and I wouldn't usually mess around in the windows folder either.
My question: what the hell is this file? And what might have caused this sudden problem, since my cousin said he's never seen that problem in the past 5 months that he's had the laptop? Lastly, any suggestions as to how to remedy the problem without using the calendar rollback function & having to reinstall the DSL & router?
Thanks.

Does it happen every time you have to shut down, or was it a one time event?

It's happened on each shut down (about 5 times now) since last night when the router was finished being installed.

i have XP and did a search on the net and within the XP 'Help And Support' for this executable 'BLPGBPJB.exe' but nothing came up in either search...
maybe the DSL provider's Customer Support may be familiar with it or the laptop makers Customer Support people...
went to the D-Link site and searched but nothing found...
Try running AdAware and remove what it finds...

Was there any error during the installation? If so, just try to reinstall. Or the file/application could have been corupted and you might to need to reinstall it. It could be a driver issue some hardware can work well but can affect the way Win XP works

also do a CNTL/ALT/DELETE and see if there is a process running for this file, if so stop it. Then issue an 'msconfig' at the dos prompt and go to your 'startup' section and see if there is something related or with a similar name to this and uncheck it along with anything else you may not need and save it.
I recently had a problem where our 3 pc's were experiencing a delay before displaying a web page and i went through this process and found the culprit just by process of elimination. I had processes that were named ~4, ~5, ~7 and something named GWIGSB, I stopped them and unchecked them in the Startup and the machines now run fine.

nothing is showing up in a google search. try running anti-spyware and anti-viral software.

Go to the folder that the program is located in and right-click it. Select Properties, and when that window comes up, select the "version" tab. Usually there will be a company name or description of the program in there (which may help determine what the program does). It can also help determine what program/hardware installed it.

Jon, Cyber, Funk, Wilee....thanks for the suggestions, I will give them all a try tonight when I'm back in front of that computer. But I feel better that you guys didn't know exactly what it was right off the bat, so that tells me it wasn't something obvious that I overlooked. And, in all likelihood, it sounds like it'll turn out to be some spyware or other unimportant bullshit (I hope).
Much appreciated.
