View Full Version : Hirohito

Prior to the main event WWE World Tag Title match they had a promo about America and the World War. Mentions of the Enola Gay and the dropping of it were heard. Japan is returning with a new leader "two generations removed" and will seek revenge and it ended with a cool Kill Bill-esque blood stained logo reading HIROHITO.
So we are bringing in a guy to play the role of a Japanese emperor/leader. Is this Ultimo Dragon switching shows? Kaientai returning? Maybe the WWE opened up their wallets and got a main eventer from the Orient.
What do you guys think?

Oh Christ, I didn't even notice this.
99.99 probability this is Kenzo Suzuki. He's supposed to be going to the Smackdown brand where Funaki will act as his manager......because I guess all Asians / Japanese stick together or something.
Ugh. It's bad enough that rumors put him in a feud with Billy Gunn, they're going to give him a shitty gimmick to go along with it.

You didn't tape it did you? Well check Stevie Night Heat and I am sure they will replay it then.
I am actually excited how this angle with turn out. It better not be Tajiri referring himself as "Hirohito."

I did tape it. I guess I'll have to review my tape.
*sigh* Is it possible for them to give a Japanese guy a gimmick that isn't a ridiculous if not offensive stereotype? Ultimo probably comes the closest.

It won't matter...if he "brings his own star with him" and the WWE didn't make his career, they won't likely push him beyond comic relief/midcard status.

I hope that means the return of the old "salt in the eyes" trick. Then, much later down the road, the WWE can make weird gimmick combinations, like have Hirohito managed some guy called "The Viking". HUSS! HUSS! HUSS!

That'll leave a bruise. Hey does anyone remember Kurosawa? Why do I feel the same feeling of impending suck in the pit of my stomach?

Hey does anyone remember Kurosawa
Unfortunately, I only remember the lousy feud he had with Road Warrior Hawk in WCW in 1995.

The difference between Kenzo and "Kurosawa" - known to puro fans as Manabu Nakanishi - is that Nakanishi, in the many years after his mid-90s WCW sting, has become a mainstay in New Japan and had many, many good matches there with a variety of different opponents.
Kenzo's always pretty much......sucked.
Although I did see one decent match he worked against Satoshi Kojima. Kenzo used the spear a lot. A lot. He likes that move. But then Kojima lariated his head clean off and I was left happy.

He's not full time anymore but when he does wrestle he mostly wrestles for Michinoku Pro the Great Sasuke's promotion and he does a lot of guest spots in all the other Japanese feds. He's a superstar over there which is cool.

I don't know if Jinsei Shinzaki (Hakushi) was ever a "superstar" in Japan, but he probably has what you would consider good name recognition.
The thing about Jinsei is that he's always been real uneven. He's a lot like Mutoh, in that when he wants to suck, he's most definitely not afraid to suck a big, thick one.
He had one hell of a compelling match with Mutoh a few years back, now that I remember it. The match was pretty awful, but it was very, very bizarre and had an incredible dynamic.

This perfectly describes why I loved the Goldberg/Lesnar match at Wrestlemania.

The only thing that this is good for is the possibility of re-living JR's greatest call ever.
After the Flair-Funk "I Quit" match, when Gary Hart, Mutah, and The Dragon Master 'Pearl Harbored' Flair:
"The Japanese are attacking Ric Flair! The Japanese are attacking Ric Flair!"
That is all.
