The kid just overheard some stuff and is just regurgitating it in odd ways. It's amazing how the brain works.. stuff we don't really notice, even at a very young age, gets stored in the recesses and then gurgles back up in unexpected ways. Reincarnation, despite what some Buddhists and Hindus believe, does not exist.

Nah. It was a fairly obscure ship and he knew who the guy's best friend was. If this kid was not reincarnated, the explanation would be that the parents are lying. Otherwise, this kid just knows way too much. IMO, the fact that he calls it the "Natoma" and not the "Natoma Bay" shows that he understands the slang and didn't just hear about this from a formal historical source.
