#1 Prince fan in the house. But even I must admit his output has been, uhm, "less than stellar" for a good decade now.

Well, NO MORE.

"Musicology" drops on April 20th, this coming Tuesday...and it's gonna be a beast. The first single is impossibly funky. The album as a whole is getting excellent reviews across the board.

I am giddy for a Prince album. Whoulda thunk THAT would happen again in my lifetime?

All hail Prince. For SOMETHING. If you think Prince hasn't done at least one thing you've loved musically, you're lying to yourself. Prince owns your white ass.

Is music really THAT sad these days? That guys like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and Prince have to come back and knock everyone aside with some of the best albums of their careers...this late in their careers?

Ah, who cares? It's new Prince. New AWESOME Prince.

SUBMIT.

I'm right there with you. I'll take the "#2 Prince fan" title, if it's still available. I even bought the NPG albums! I even got the version of Crystal Ball that you could only get online that had the 5th disc! I'm hooked!

But...

I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I just don't want to be disappointed. His new label is going the distance as far as promoting "Musicology", and I don't want to fall victim to the hype. The single is good, no doubt about it, but it's not GREAT. So I wait patiently 'til Tuesday...

Prince is the man. And Chris Rock mentioned him last night. "You know how people used to ask who is better, Michael Jackson or Prince? Well Prince won!" "I'm fucking finished with Micheal!"

Can we all agree to stop using the word "drop" for music releases? it sounds gay.

Mojo, there was some bar in Northern VA that simulcast Prince's concert from LA a couple of weeks ago (attendees also received advanced copies of the new album). A friend of mine went to see it. He's a die-hard Prince fan and said it was a phenomenal show -- no bullshit, just the man and his music.

Is he himself giving out the copies like a comic after the show? Or is just that the folks at the shows are giving out copies. If he himself is giving them out then I'm there! I'm a Prince fan from way back.

Okay, I picked up Musicology today. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but I already have one complaint: There's nowhere for the booklet to go! It just sits there, and you close the cardboard cover over it, and then when you pick up the cd, it falls out!

Shoddy work.

I just picked it up myself but havent had a chance to really listen to it. Sounds pretty funky so far though.

I happen to be one of the few who has enjoyed a lot of his work even in the last decade so I think I should be at least in the top three. I really dug New Power Soul, Rave, and The Vault (though Vault contains music created years before the album was released) but Rainbow Children really didnt do anything for me. Xenophobia and NEWS were good, but I'm hoping this kicks it up a notch.

Anybody here going to any of the concerts?

TheMojoPin

OK, yes, the packaging sucks. The booklet falls right out, and the damn digipack doesn't even stay closed on its own...but whatever.

The album is beautiful. He always danced the line of singing about faith and sex in his best music...then he ditched the sex and it got awkward and bad. Now he's ditched THAT focus, and he's basically singing about the music itself, which is LIKE sex for Prince AND his religion, so it all comes together.

Good shit.

Now if he'd just bring back Wendy and Lisa...

There was a big article in today's Washington Post Style section on Prince. I'd post the link but I think you need to register (for free) to be able to read it.

Anyone see the half-hour mini concert? They showed it on like 5 goddamn networks...

But man, that was some good shit. He's doing part-acoustic sets at all of his tour stops, and they're killing. After this show, I can see why.

PRINCE, dammit.

Furie, he is, and that's why his last few albums absolutely sucked. And yes, the dude HAS gone door-to-door trying to do whatever JW's do.

ECH.

Jon...meh. I don't care how many people actually buy the album.

I think CDs distributed at concerts actually do count as sales. I read an article in which it was stated that a purchase price for the CD is built into the ticket price.
