From WWE.COM

After months of negotiations, the WWE and Steve Austin have been unable to come to terms on a new contract and as a result have mutually agreed to part company.

Both parties have left the door open to work together again in the future and the WWE wishes Steve the very best in his future endeavors.

Good.

He's useless if he can't wrestle.

I agree... His "Sheriff" gimmick with the ATV didn't work at all.

It's about time they did this. Let's face it, his career went down the crapper right after his match with the Rock at WrestleMania 19.

Awww... there goes the one man I despise more than Triple H.

I haven't really cared for Austin since his days of teaming with Pillman in WCW ended. I'm probably the only person who's hated the "Rattlesnake" persona from day one, the "What?" chants annoyed the fuck out of me, and his domestic problems haven't exactly endeared him to me at all.

Good fucking riddance.

The really odd - and frightening, if you're an All Japan fan (which I am, despite how Mutoh has been running things) - thing about this situation?

Austin v. Goldberg may happen after all. But not in the WWE - in PRIDE.

Goldberg's under contract with PRIDE. Dreamstage has been making it known that they want to hire Austin as well. So, Austin may face Goldberg OUTSIDE of the WWE.

And here's the additional mindfuck: the match could be for the Triple Crown, should Goldberg beat Toshiaki Kawada for the belts. Which is possible, should Dreamstage want Goldberg as the champion, because All Japan / Mutoh owes Dreamstage a shitload of money, and thus Mutoh may be forced to put the titles on Goldberg.

It's a very, very strange situation.

But back on point - I'm not sorry to see the asshole leave. What a sad disappointment he turned out to be. He could have gone down as one of the greats, but his legacy will forever be tainted by his actions.

Don't blame me....I voted for Kodos.
I look forward to an orderly election that will eliminate the need for a violent bloodbath. </center>

While his out of the ring troubles are indefensible, I'll give his in the ring persona it's due. Austin was the main personna who led the change from the old WWF to the WWF/E Attitude we have today. From the '96 King of the Ring through the '96 Survivor Series, and till Wrestlemania 13 in '97 Austin was the reason to flip on Raw. While the NWO was at it's peak on TNT, the sound of breaking glass made you stay tuned and watch RAW.

According to "The Slammer" in The New York Daily News, Steve has the option of returning, if he stops his demands on the rights to "Stone Cold".

If this is true, I don't recall anyone having the "option" of retruning to work for WWE after being fired.
