FALLBROOK, Califorina (AP) -- -- The elderly parents of Grammy-winning recording artist "Weird Al" Yankovic were found dead in their home, apparently victims of carbon monoxide poisoning, officials said.
Nick and Mary Yankovic were found dead Friday in their suburban San Diego home by relatives who were worried because they had not seen the couple in a while, said sheriff's Sgt. Conrad Grayson. (http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/04/11/yankovic.parents.ap/index.html)

That man is something else. He finds out that both of his parents are dead and still goes on with a concert. That is what you call dedication.

I thought his father died a few years ago, no? Wasnt he also a famous accordian player? Maybe Im thinking of his grandfather, but I do remember another Yankovic in the news dying.

Frank Yankovic, the accordian player, did die a few years ago, but he and Al are not related.
From an old interview at TheForce.net (http://www.theforce.net/jedicouncil/interview/weirdal.shtml):
No, Frankie and I were friends for many years, but no relation. And no matter how many times I denied it, people just insisted that we must be related somehow. Sometimes after explaining to a reporter for the third time that Frankie wasn't my dad, I would read the article, and it would say, "There's obviously a rift in the Yankovic family - Al won't even admit that Frankie's his father!" In fact, when Frankie passed away a few years ago, I remember NBC news said something like, "Frankie's gone now...but his spirit lives on in the music of his son, 'Weird Al' Yankovic!"

Weird Al did skip the meet and greet for audience members that he was supposed to do in conjunction with the show.
During the show, he must have felt his father's fingers guiding him as he played the accordian. I wonder if they covered "The Living Years."

He may not have realized they were dead. He probably thought they were just "faking it", like the usually did when he performed.
