I'm a big fan of Jesus. Not a bible thumper, I just find the man, the myths, the legends, the message, all that stuff fascinating. Maybe it's because of the solitude and isolation I feel in my own life sometimes. But I've gone too far here, completely off track.

If you're a fan of the stories, I cannot recommend this book any higher. First of all it's a comedy, and it is hilarious. It's written from the perspective of Jesus' childhood and lifelong best friend, 'Biff', resurrected in today's world to write his version of the scriptures. The thing that makes this different from any other Jesus narrative is that it tells the tale of 'the missing years'. It starts with the meeting of the friends at age 6. Jesus is repeatedly resurrecting a lizard so his brother, James, can keep playing with it and killing it.

Like I said, it's a comedy, but it goes much deeper than that. Moreso than any other version I've read, this is Jesus as man, well boy really; his struggle to reconcile his divine destiny with his all too human adolescence and teenage years.

I'm not done reading it yet, and I can't wait to get back to it. 'Biff' tells the tale with humor, love, and poignancy. It really is a fantastic read.

I've read a number of Moore's books and they are always original, irreverent, and hilarious. This one sounds great, I'll have to pick it up.
