Ahhhhh...Lidsville...brilliantly subversive early, early 1970s kids show from "Sid and Marty Kroft." Can't believe that you would think something starring Charles Nelson Reilly was gay! haha

Like all of their shows at the time, including "H.R. Pufenstuff," "Sigmund the Sea Monster" and "The Bugaloos" it was aimed at very young kids, however it was also one of the more disturbing shows too - even the opening credit sequence was just unsettling. I was about 6 or 7 when it was on the air, and it just freaked me out.

And also like all of those shows at the time, it had a huge teenage stoner audience who read all sorts of things between the lines; LSD was almost required for viewing those shows.

Anyway, I'd put the shit we got exposed to anyday above the "Smurfs," "Thundercats," "He-Man," "Power Rangers," and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" that came later.

When I was in college Nickelodean showed something called "Puff-A-Palooza" It was 6hrs of Sid and Marty Croft shows. God I got so fucked up that day.

Butch Patrick "Eddie" from the Munsters was the kid in it. It's kids' show--as a kids' show it was cool and kinda clever.

Myself I thought the Banana Splits kicked total ass.

I got creeped out by magic hats because of that show. I remember the kid bought a magic hat, and he was trying to do a trick and it grew and grew and grew until it kind of swallowed him up and sent him to Lidsville.
