According to
Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=C3ONBGCVF1AZQCRBAEZSF EY?type=filmNews&storyID=4767736)Tim Story of "Barbershop" fame will direct the new FF movie to come out next year for 2005.
Rumors are Michael Chiklis of the Shield as the Thing and Tim Robbins as Dr. Doom. Got those from Superherohype.com.
Does anybody know what else Tim Story has come out with? I think FF is a far cry from Barbershop.
I think Michael Chiklis would be able to pull off Ben Grimm. I'm not sure of Tim Robbins though as Dr. Doom.

Tim Robbins? Ugh. That's about as bad as the casting choice of George Clooney as Reed Richards.
Michael Chiklis MIGHT be okay, especially given the fact that Thing will likely be CGI, so he'd just supply the voice.

Actually I think Tim Robbins might make a pretty good Victor Von Doom. Robbins can pull off some amazing acting. (After all he DID win the oscar this past year) Doom is a proud man who is also a genius.
Chiklis would be great as Ben Grimm, but I think they should consider Vin Deisel if the charachter IS CGI, he has that rough sounds-like-he-is-right-from-da-old-neighborhood type voice. I can almost hear him yell IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME right now.
Clooney woud be a good Reed Richards..hell if he can pull off a doctor on TV he can pull off a Genius Superhero...besides he looks the part too...both charachters have Silver Sideburns and strong faces. (And YES I THINK he did a good job as Batman....it was a shitty script)
Who would would you pick for the other charachters?
I think maybe Kate Hudson would play Sue Richards...she is supposed to be years younger then Reed anyway and if Clooney plays Reed it would look the part too.
But WHO for Jonny Storm (Human Torch)...Maybe Orlando Bloom? Or the kid who plays Clark Kent in Smallville....Tom Welling...he is pretty good also.
Anyway...a good alteernative for Tim Robbins would be Jonny Depp. I think Depp wold make an AWSOME Doom...the way he throws himself into the part he plays.
Anyway...that's my 5 cents worth.

alexis denisof i think would be a great reed richards.
sue storm should be charlize theron
johnny should be christian hayden
ben grimm should be completely cgi, with some wrestler as the voice. i dont think any real actor could pull off 'clobberin time' and not come off cheesy.
i cant think of the johnnys blind wifes name right now, but she should be jordan ladd, i think she could do that part nicely.
as for doom, i dont know if robbins can pull off a nice euro accent, if he could im for it. if not liam neeson is a good actor.

You need an actor for Grimm. He has to be Ben before the accident. Someone big with a football or wrestling build.
And her name was Alicia.

For a guy in armor to pull it off, they usually have to be very slender and tall or else they end up looking dumpy or have to resort to non full body shots. The same with Iron Man as Tom Cruse, I dont think he would look good if they had all that on him. Kind of like how Robo Cop looked really weird when standing next to someone, unless they have a way now with computers to make people look better. Didnt they kind of remove the Human Torch after some kid lit himself on fire, or was that an urban legend? I always thought Dr Doom was the coolest villian.

Malkovich would make a better Doom than Robbins. Robbins is just too.....milquetoast to be Doom. Doom is DOOM~! He's pretty much THE badass of badasses in the entire Marvel world. Doom is many things, but Doom is not Mr. Susan Sarandon.
A better Doom....possibly even better than Malkovich....the guy who comes to mind is Gary Oldman. Because if there's someone who can handle the character, I think Oldman could.
Chiklis is okay is Thing, I guess. For the voice, honestly, I think better choices would be Michael Wincott. Or even Vin Diesel (he gets shit on, but hey, it worked in Iron Giant). I could even see Ron Perlman doing a good job of the voice.
Knowing Hollywood, they'll cast Stifler as Jonny Storm.

I'm with Se7en...Oldman NEEDS to be Doom.
Save Malkovich to play Herr Starr when they start the "Preacher" movies. He's be put to much better use in that role.
I always liked the idea of Clooney as Reed Richards when that was first rumored...
And fuck the idea of an all-CGI thing. CGI is ass for a main character...I don't know what everyone is smoking, but Golum looked just as fake as Jar-Jar in those LOTR films. All FX-heavy comic films should look to "Hellboy"...it's got CGI, but a good dose of costume/puppet work, and it looked SO much better than the mostly CGI fims put out these days.

We're just not "there" yet with CGI f/x and that's why I hope they dont make a FF movie. It's just to hard to make anything look heavy when they use CG.
The Hulk?? Puh-leease! Dragons, Dinosaurs, whatever...it all looks bad.
Gollum is the best CGI creature so far, but even HE didn't really look like he was existing in the same space as the other characters.
Maybe in 5-10 years...but right now is too soon for a CGI Thing or Human Torch.

I don't think I'd like Irons as Doom because I think he'd be over the top. I think he tends to be that way when he plays the villian in a number of his movies.
I'd like to see someone like Christopher Walken caliber only younger playing Doom. I'd like to see Gabriel Byrne in that kind've role or at least a bad guy role. Alan Rickman is a good choice too.

CGI is still at the point where inorgqnic stuff: droids, rocks, entire panorama of background scenery, etc looks good. The computer can simulate non-life very very well. (Just look at the various droids (Battle, Droid Dekas, ect. . .) and ship/space shots. Brilliant.) Any organic organism (An, Veg) just doesn't look right. Gollum in the LOTR films was an enormous leap forward from Jar Jar Binks. But he still wasn't real. What made Gollum so believable was the great performances from Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, and of course Andy Serkis.
BOTTOM LINE: CGI perfect on inorganic things - Happy to be the bizzomb.
CGI better than before and getting better, but still nowhere near on living creaturee - Mediocre at best, but improving. someday . . .

As much as I love Jessica Alba, can we actually stick to the comics for once and not just cast the ethnic hotties in the roles?!
First the rumors of Beyonce as Lois Lane, then Halley Berry as Catwoman, now this shit.
And Ray Liotta would be a fucking awful Doom. He's a good actor, but TOTALLY wrong for that part.

Alba, shmalba. I figured she was some dull white chick during that awful "Dark Angel" series, so I'm sure it'll work out here.
It's clear they're not "ethnic-ing" up the character, since she's still Johnny Storm's brother, and he's still white.
We're not exactly talking "the darkness" here...it ain't a stretch at all to consider this dame in a "white" role, which is pretty ridiculous, since she's half-white to begin with.

As far as the story, the Fantastic Four movie will be based upon the storyline of the new Ultimate Fantastic Four series first couple of issues, with Doctor Doom (who I think Jude Law would portray nicely) as the main villian. Whether the infamous Mole Man (who I'd want Jack Black to play) will be in has yet to have been revealed.
From what I've read on Super Hero Hype and Comics2Film, as far as the Thing goes, the costume has already been designed by the same people who made Ron Pearlman look like Hellboy.

The most recognizable face is also the most covered. Veteran actor Michael Chiklis, 41, of TV's The Shield, will grumble his way through the role of Ben Grimm, aka the Thing, a boulder-bodied mound of power whose battle cry is "It's clobberin' time!"

Very big deal...and will alter the character completely....Victor Von Doom was nowhere near the rocket that takes the FF into space...
this is a ridiculous and unnecessary dramatic alteration to the storyline

Wow, sounds like the background story to Lost in Space with that dude trying to sabatage the ship.

I thought Doom didnt have any powers and was just a really really smart guy in an armored suit.
I really hate how they have to alter the comic movies to accomodate the villain lately.

i understand the need for plot purposes and such, but i never understood why, when it comes to movies based on comic books, they tamper with the source material so much ...
plus, it seems they give the projects to directors who aren't necessarily fans of the source material (hulk/catwoman) ...
it doesn't necessarily make for bad movies ... but, with such a devoted fanbase, why not cater to them ...?
when they make biblical movies, the studios don't reimage moses to be french or give jesus 10 apostles ....

Though dead-on, if they're going by the new "Ultimate" series.
Like the Hulk, the science of the original origin is ridicuously dated at this point. While I don't like Doom being there every step of the way, getting rid of the rocket seems fine to me.

Oh, man, HARSH. I understand why some people don't like "The Hulk," but it doesn't deserve to be lumped in with "Catwoman."
And Ang Lee IS a big fan of the old Hulk comics. To be honest, I really liked the movie, and it seemed like something that would come right out of the Peter David-era of the comic series.
And sticking loyally to the comic doesn't automatically mean good. "Daredevil" had scenes and lines almost verbatim out of the Daredevil comics, and it blew impossibly hard.

What are you talking about??? We all know Jesus was Black but they never portray him that way in the movies.

i thought i read/heard that lee wasn't a comic book guy ... i rather enjoyed 'hulk,' especially the more adult tone the movie ...
and daredevil really, really sucked ... seemed more like a series of videos for third rate MTV acts ...

Somehow that didn't come accross in the film.

Really? Like I said, to me, it definitely felt like a Peter David story, and the ten years or so he wrote the story are basically considered the best in the character's history. He's the one that really developed and brought forth the abusive relationship between Bruce and his father, and how it plays into the creation of the Hulk.
That, and the split-screen. I love me some split-screen. Anyone ever see "The Boston Strangler?" It's an editing technique not enough filmmakers even attempt to use.

Some previews of the trailers have been on tv and you can see them here (http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2005/DEFGH/Fantastic-Four/trailer.php) I'm excited about this movie. I have high hopes

Like any Superhero/Comic Book/Fantasy film, there is a lot of potential for greatness and there is a tremendous risk of failure.
I'm looking forward to the FF movie but, it sure does seem like it's gonna be another crappy CGI day-glo disaster. (See also: The Day After Tomorrow)
Story first. Shitty CGI second. Is that so much to ask?!

Fear for any movie that had to rewrite the third act because of The Incredibles.

The trailer wasn't as awful as people made it out to be, but still... "1 will be bad, 4 will be fantastic" sounds like something a six-year-old wrote.

I think the Thing looks awesome.
There's obviously going to be a division between fans. I can't wait for this movie. In all honesty, I don't care if they alter the origin of Dr. Doom or some background issues of other characters as long as it makes for a good story.

Sue: I'm not wearing anthing.
Reed: You're naked?? But I don't see you.
Sue: I know. I'm invisible.
Reed: I hate it when you tease me like that.
