I have gotten more information on the Steve Austin-WWE situation and as of right now, things are even worse than I was led to believe.
As we reported earlier today, Steve Austin was not at Raw this week and was not written into the show. Here is the story as to why.
I have heard for a few weeks now that Austin was negotiating a new deal with WWE. From what a number of sources told me, he has hired a high-powered lawyer who is familiar with the contracts of other WWE workers. I have not gotten the identity of the lawyer 100% confirmed, but it's definitely a "non-wrestling" guy, which means he isn't easily rolled over. From what I have been told, he has taken a far more aggressive negotiating stance for Austin than WWE has seen in some time. Since they bought WCW, WWE has been almost totally in the driver's seat where negotiations are concerned so this stance was already said to be causing waves before it came to a head last week.
Last Friday, Austin and his lawyer met with Vince McMahon and his lawyers to talk about the new deal. During that meeting, according to sources close to the situation, McMahon got into it with Austin's lawyer and it turned ugly.
From what I have found out, Austin was looking for more flexibility in what projects he could do. Vince reportedly wanted to keep firm control of what projects Austin is involved in, and a piece of Stone Cold's action, much the way the company did with the Rock's early movie career.
From what I have learned from a few people close to the situation, at this point in the negotiations things got ugly when Vince tried to blow past this demand and the new lawyer wouldn't let it go.
The meeting reportedly ended very badly and as of right now, it doesn't appear that any new talks are scheduled and Austin is gone from WWE, at least for now.
