PC audio question.

My sound card has both digital and analog outputs. Can I hook up both of them, the analog to my PC speakers, and the digital out to my home theatre receiver, and switch back and forth between them? I don't want to have the big surround going when I'm just surfing and what have you, but if I'm playing a game or watching a movie, I would like to have the full audio effect.
