Ah Yes. The start to a brand new year. I'm so happy baseball is starting up again. The only thing I'm upset about is the fact that the season opener is in friggin japan and the start time for the game is 5am. Screw these japanese people and what will accomodate them. This is our national past time.

GO Yanks, F the Sox, DIE DAN!

I think it is so dumb to have opening day in Japan.

The on.ly way it would work for me is if they allow pokemon to play too!

Pikachu with the pitch to Charmander. Charmander hits it deep! It's far but Zapados grabs it! Manager Ash runs out and the game is over! YAY!

Perfect. I'll be up at 5:00, so maybe I'll listen in the car. I hate the Yankees, but it's great to hear MLB after a long off-season.

The espn feed will be live. The only difference is Michael Kay and the yes people are actually there calling it. The espn announcers are in bristol, Conn calling the game while they watch it on a monitor. But either way, it will be live, sort of.

I think their first 2 games are in Japan and are regular season games. Then they come back to the US, and play Tampa in Tampa. They are regular games. Then its back to NY for the home opener.

Is the song "Let's get Loud" popular over there?

They played that during the team Introductions....or were they just trying to be american friendly?

ugh... 8-3. It went downhill pretty fast. Mussina looked strong early, but got tired and just died. Quantrill looked pretty good. Other then that, pretty ugly game. Arod did make some nice plays at third though. Its only one game.

Well, the MLB season is finally here (sorta), and I couldn't be any happier. Sure, the Yanks looked like horseshit this morning (nice glove, Giambi) but it'll all be ok once they get back on American soil.

For the rest of today, and the rest of the week if they look just as professional tomorrow morning, the Yankees are the worst team in baseball. Live it up Yankee-haters, just don't get used to it. We gave you the 1980s to have your fun, but the party's long over.

I am awoken at 5:30 AM by News Channel 4 and some NY scumbag in a bar in Central Park is shooting off his mouth. The type of fan I hate of any team. The one who thinks that they are the greatest fan ever. Anyway he says no other fan of any other team would weak up that early for their team. I respect your fandom for whatever team you root for but the audacity to state that no other fan loves their team as much is bullshit. I wanted to punch him in his fat NY face. Like a Phillies fan doesn't have heart? Nor a Red Sox fan? Nor a Cubs fan? Hell, even a Padres or Tigers fan loves their team just as much. You may not think so Mr. Scumbag but they do.

You ego filled fan who think the world revolves around your team, go fuck yourself. Yeah, go fuck yourself you scumbag. not pointing any fingers cause ALL teams have the fan like this. I even know Phillies fans who think this way and they just need to come back to reality. Yes, I love my Phils and suffer with them year in and year out but to think I am better than a fan of any other team? You got to be kidding me. Like I said, I love my team but would never think for a minute that I am better than any other fan or that I have more heart than any other fan. That is just ludicrous.

I hate egofilled fans who think that way becasue it is just nauseating and nothing more I love than to see them suffer because of their egotism. In so many cases you have to learn how to deal with losing seasons and fan PAIN before you can really appreciate winning.

Unless it is painfully obvious (see Mr. Scumbag) who am I and how can I judge how another fan feels about his/her team?

Hideki Matsui is one of the players that I genuinely like. I was sure to pick him for both my fantasy teams. Just after seeing how he played some of the balls in the outfield last year, I was clearly impressed. You can also see he plays with such a passion for the game.

Its wasnt all bad. Quantrill should be fine, and he looked great when he was in. Heredia is a different story. Hopefully he doesnt suck too bad this year. After watching the whole game it all came down to Mussina getting smacked around on the 6th. He'll be fine, some of these pitchers suck if something like a 14 hour time difference is thrown thier way. Giambi looked good at the plate, which isnt guarenteed so its good to see, and Sheff looks lucky. Combine lucky doubles with his real hits, and its a good year.

plus if you were listening to the ESPN2 broadcast Harold Reynolds surprisingly made a very good point at the start of the game. these pitchers aren't yet ready for the regular season, and Moose certainly proved him right. theyre still getting their work in and they definatly don't have full control of their pitches yet. it was a tough loss, but I really don't see any cause for concern. Moose looked like shit, but he'll no doubt be fine

How much does how a guy plays a ball in the outfield play into fantasy stats? Not much. Great choice.

I think the point might have been that Matsui is a true pro and has that all-important "it" factor, partially evident by the way he handled himself in what is often referred to as one of the hardest outfields to play LF in.

That's what makes him able to handle the zoo of media attention that is constantly around him, and it contributes to why he seemd to come up with so many key hits last year...which do go into him being a solid fantasy performer.

At least, that's what I got out of his post, but maybe I read into things too much.

Sometimes I think the people at the YES Network just don't get it. I purposely took a late lunch so I could get into my car & put on the game at about 12:55pm. Just as I start the car & turn on the radio, I hear Bob Sheppard doing the announcement of the White Sox bullpen coach.

Odd, I thought. Then it hit me, he's announcing EVERYONE...this the how they're going to find the way to announce Don Mattingly. So I frantically grab the cell & call home to ask my brother to throw a tape in & record it (incase tonight's replay doesn't go through the full introductions for the sake of time restraints).

He gets a tape in the VCR just in time as I listen to Donnie get a nice ovation, but Sheppard din't pause for very long and moved on to the next coach, so it didn't last nearly as long as it could/should have. So I ask my bro, "Did you hear the crowd get real loud for that few seconds...that's the only reason they did all these introductions?" He tells me that they are just now coming back from commercials!

I know it's not a big deal, but if the stadium crew knew enough about how important it was to the fans to have Mattingly back in uniform to waste all that time making announcements like it was the All-Star Game or Game 1 of the World Series, shouldn't the Yankees' own cable network have had the same enthusiasm for it?

Anyway...the bleacher creatures wouldn't let it die there. After they went around the horn for the ritual rolecall, they saved A-Rod till the end (or so it would seem), then continued on to a very loud DONN-IE-BASE-BALL! chant.

OK, that's my rant...back to business.
