View Full Version : New WWE Character Revealed

Apparently, my favorite Ohio Valley Wrestling superstar and WWE developmental talent Nick Dinsmore whom I have been waiting to show up on TV soon will be wrestling under the name...Eugene. According to backstagewrestling.com, this is the name he's been wrestling under at the RAW house shows. The character is an over the top pro-wrestling enthusiast. I don't know if this is the best idea. I mean, Nick Dinsmore is in my opinion the next Chris Benoit. Who knows what may happen.

From what I had read, the character is supposed to be based on Warren, the retarded brother from "There's Something About Mary."*

Suddenly, Nova's alleged "Big 80s" gimmick doesn't seem so bad.

*Gathered from yet another message board, so who knows how accurate the story is.

I hate the WWE sometimes. So very, very much. Sometimes so much I can feel it in my bones.

Something tells me this is a Gerwitz creation.

his whole mission is the tear through the wwe in search of his baseball. and when he gets it, his manager can use the baseball to summon the spirits and give him that little something extra to recover and win matches a la old school undertaker and his urn.

sounds like a winner to me!

Did you see his amazing match against Benoit in OVW on Christmas Chaos? That definitely proved it!

But the WWE with this character will probably kill him out the gate. So fucked up!

Well, if his ring skill (saw the Benoit match...wow) and his mic work (no idea on this one) are enough, he'll make it in spite of the horrid gimmick they saddle him with. See: Cena, John. Who'da thunk a Halloween costume & a few raps that made most of us cringe in embarassment for him would have turned into the most over character on SmackDown? Even if that was the "creative" team's intention, certainly he's made something of himself in spite of them moreso than due to their brilliance. I just want to see this guy make it to TV before Vince succeeds in running his dynasty into the ground.

Yes I did see his match with Benoit, I own it on tape, and watched it again just a few moments ago.

Also, the character is apparently been getting over pretty well in RAW house shows. Maybe his ring talent is overshadowing the character, which is good. And yes, Gerwitz is the key to WWE's horrible writting.

Hey, I've got a wild idea... let's have one of our guys bring a mannequin's head to the ring... THAT TALKS TO HIM! And he writes on himself.

Or better yet, a wrestler that pulls his own hair out, and has a sock puppet!

Seeing bad gimmicks and berating them is one thing. HEARING about them and going crazy is another.

Of course, I'm still annoyed that the WWE killed O'Haire's character.

Maybe I am just really lacking in my wrestling knowledge here but wasn't George The Animal like that in real life? I didn't think he was. I could be wrong though.

I just kind of cringed at this casue from all I have read here and on other wrestling sites was that Dinsmore was pretty good. To see this not only makes me think of WrestleCrapper of the Year but does Vince think this could actually go over? I am really scratching my head at this one.

Fluff:

I want to say that George Steele was a teacher/professor somewhere before getting into wrestling, but I'm not sure if that is an urban legend or not.

But the fact of the matter is, Steele wasn't anything like "The Animal" character. He was actually quite normal in real life.

This was actually worse than I thought it would be.

You bring back Regal for this. FOR THIS.

And WASTE Dinsmore for cheap "humor" which is designed to appeal to only the lowest common denominator.

You know what? The more I think about it, the more I think that Kanyon & Sean O'Haire are the lucky ones.

Ok, I think you need to be reminded that this is "entertainment", not a sport.

Regal is by far one of the funniest people in the WWE. With or without Dinsmore, he is comedy gold. We're lucky to have him back. But with Dinsmore, we get even more of Regals great facial expressions.

Besides, who really ever gets tired of old school references? Bushwackers!

That's such a cop-out. "It's entertainment." That's the same excuse the WWE has used for all of the stupid shit they've thrown at us over the years.

"In Japan it's a sport, in Mexico it's a religion, in Canada it's a tradition, in America it's a joke."
---the modern defining of professional wrestling

And that's the truth. Pro wrestling will probably never be accepted as anything more than a pseudo-sport here in America, but it could be respected for more than it is. Like it or not, Vince McMahon is to blame for most of the negative attitudes towards pro wrestling here.

I agree that Regal is talented. He's got charisma. And how much more useful would his talents be managing a worker who's not doing a retard gimmick?

It is entertainment. I don't watch it as a sport, I watch it to be entertained. I actually prefer the skits to the wrestling. If I want to watch wrestling, I will order a pay per view.

But I will agree, Regal would be better with someone else, because that Eugene character is painful to watch.

You don't understand. Nick Dinsmore was the guy from OVW that deserved a place in the WWE the most. He's shown so much skill and talent, the WWE writers however did not know what to do with him. Apparently though, he's very over with crowds and management thinks highly of his professionalism, despite the retard gimmick. Maybe if he didn't look as much as a retard as he did and rather maybe just be a big ol' wrestling nerd that wasn't too bright that Regal was trying to make more civilized, then I would think better of the character, but all my respect is lost in the creative team as far as the way they treat OVW talent, except for Brock Lesnar and the former WGTT.

I know I'm not the first to say it, but bull-fucking-shit.

If the warm-and-fuzzy "explanation" makes Vinnie Mac feel better about himself, great. But as someone whose stepbrother has been abused and mocked for years by strangers and family members because of his mental retardation, I would prefer Vince shoves it, and the gimmick, up his ass.

Go ahead and bash me for being too sensitive, I hardly give a shit.

I know I haven't been posting much, but I must say this gimmick, while politically incorrect, is gold. I mean Dinsmore is going to get over, no doubt. Regal will regain his massive heat. And I have no problem with the gimmick, since I see them rehashing the same sort of stuff they did with Zack Gowen. Now that I see it, Gowen was a human gimmick.

Anyways, Dinsmore has been given a solid gimmick, that will get him over. Besides, how many wrestlers have portrayed a gimmick where they were "slow" and still done well afterwards? I mean does anybody else remember Buh Buh's stuttering problem?

I know there have been problems with it, ala Moppy and Planet Stasiak, but it'll get Dinsmore over. Not only will it be funny, not in a laugh at the retard way, but funny Regal style, we get to see Dinsmore wrestle!

Is this insensitive of the WWE though? I have no idea. We're going to have to wait and see. As of right now, hopefully they just play him off as "simple" as previously stated, and try to hope for the best. Peachy, perhaps they'll make the best of it. Optimism is fun.

So, ok.

Once Eugene gets to the ring he is going to perform like a seasoned, well-traned in ring wrestler and have all the moves and everything. Like there won't be any evidence while in ring that there is any kind of disability. Something like this really makes me want to just tune out of the WWF(E) because even though it is WrestleCrap GOLD it is still a bit insulting.

Insulting due to those who have family members with problems and disabilities like this and insulting to the hardcore wrestling fans who just expect more. Expect more on their 2 hours of Monday & Thursday Night Slop than skits where corpses are getting laid and instead good hard working talent can get a chance to shine. How can the powers that be really see this as something getting over? How? Is there a thought given to any of these gimmicks that seem stupid to all of us that they may actually get over and be the next big thing? I just don't understand.

I applaud the recent push of Shelton Benjamin. Smart move although I can see where it is headed. The only thing I find more offensive than the Eugene character now is the push of Bradshaw.

Is there a bright spot ahead when it comes to the WWF(E) or is this going to be the ongoing path for the next few years until a new Nitro saves wrestling.

Save us TNA, you're our only hope.

Given the angle the WWE is introducing him, I thought they would present him like Ric Steiner (back in 88-90)...not too bright but absolutely dangerous in the ring. As bad as the Dinsmore gimmick is, he seems to be pulling off the backstage stuff very well. If Dinsmore pulls through this gimmick, he can ultimately drop it in an instant with little more than a change in posture and expression (saying the whole thing was an act for his "uncle" Eric who he cannot stand), and done at the right time could probably go over incredibly.

Regal can be absolutely classic, and I can't tell which way he is going with this. Regal has me guessing last night if he is going face with Dinsmore.

But yes, this is a bad gimmick from the get-go.

ya know, i'm just willing to accept this. If all of a sudden Eugene is a complete savvy ring veteran i think it could be funny. They build him up as like a slow guy and one who will probably be beat real quick, but then he like squashes low-card heel of the week (Palumbo?). And then Regal and everybody else is just kinda shocked. And then they push him as a force to be reckoned with. Then eventually they can just play it off as an act. It could work. I'm saying 50-50 it works or is a complete bomb.
