offical Van Halen web site just posted it. (http://www.van-halen.com/newsite/news.html)
And this looks like a new picture of them.
So when is the "Van Cherone" tour going to happen?
That thumb is barely up, Eddie hip may break again and the tour may end before it starts.

Good. Not really overly impressed but Hagar is just so full of energy that it may do pretty good. I hope it is heavy and rockin and blows the previous Hagar AND Roth stuff away.

so what band is current? I don't think this tour is about being "relevant"
I'm sure Micheal Anthony and Alex Van Halen would rather go on tour with Sammy than sit around and listen to Eddie complain about his health.
I'd rather see Van Hagar than Marlyn Mason or some other fake "relevant" shit.

I got to hang out with Sammy for a little while last year on the Hagar/Skynyrd tour, and he was the coolest. I showed him the tattoo on my arm of the sheet music to "Love Walks In", and he sent his publicist out to take a picture of it. Then he signed my Les Paul. Hope I get the chance to meet the rest of the band this summer. If I can get Eddie to sign my Music Man EVH guitar, the value (both sentimental and monetary) will go through the roof. Oh, God, I'm rambling. If anyone needs me, I'll be over here drooling 'til tix go on sale.

We certainly are...and even though I'm a HUGE fan of the original lineup, Dave proved (once again) in the Sammy & Dave tour that he is little more than the poster child for ADHD and a past-his-prime former legendary performer. The act was cool when he was 18-25, but around 45-50, it gets to be a little too much.
At the same time, Sammy was proving that even though he's got Dave by 5 years, he still can perform his old ass off & put on a show that you leave not feeling cheated, but thoroughly rocked.
The only way I could be more excited for this tour would be if they announced Tribe of Judah as the opening act, with the chance that Gary might do a mid-show 2 or 3 song VH classics set with the boys while Sammy rests his pipes. But that might be asking too much, and be too weird. But at least if it did happen that way, we might get more than just the neat, tidy, 2 hours on the nose VH show that I've been seeing since 1986.

Sammy is definitely a little "out there" at times, but at least he's coherent enough to put on a show.
Perhaps I'll get a chance to talk to him about this when I'm 3 rows from the stage for the 2nd show of the tour in Hershey, PA!

They actually have three new songs that will be on the double CD "Best of Both Worlds", coming out (or "dropping" as the kids say these days) on July 20th. The new songs are titled "It's About Time," "Up For Breakfast," and "Learning to See." "It's About Time" is the one that is currentl;y getting airplay on stations like Q104.3, the other were only heard on a few stations when they had a listening party a few weeks ago, but I missed it.
I just saw the show in Hershey this past weekend, and although it wasn't the best live performance by this group I've ever seen, it without a doubt rocked. They performed all three new songs, but between being 20 feet from Mike's bass equipment, the fact that it was only the second show of the tour & the sound mix wasn't quite up to snuff yet, and the fact that I was higher than a giraffe's ass just to be in the building & watching this, I couldn't give you much of a detailed review.
I can tell you that all three songs are floating around KazaaLite & I currently have then downloading at home, while I'm at work.
After the Jersey shows, I would be happy to give a review to all those interested.

The first few seconds didn't sound like Van Halen (any era) so I thought I got some other song some band is just trying to get out there.
Not bad (except for the weird processing on the vocals at the beginning, I guess everyone does that when they get older. cough CHER /cough)

well now that Courtney Love's appearence same night at the Stone Pony was cancelled [cant believe they actually booked her]; I think I'm gonna have to give in and see Van Hagar.
i was lucky enough to catch them Diver Down tour when they were still great if not still very hungry, and the 1984 tour where there was a little too much Diamond Dave and not enough songs, but never seen em with Hagar.
jesus christ i just realized that was 20 fucking years ago...
oh, and the 10 minute guitar solo? its the greatest display of guitar talent around if its anything like what he used to do; he'd mix up the double-stop tapping of the Mean Street Intro; Eruption, some Spanish Fly, so its not noodling for 10 mins; during the 1984 tour he had a little rig on the back of his guitar so it would be propped up flat like a pedal steel and just went off on it. not as many as youd think heading for the bathrooms during that solo...
and he played Little Guitars [one of the coolest VH songs ever] on yep; a little les paul looking mini-guitar
speaking of back-in-the-day, from the almost never seen Running with the Devil video. Yeah, they shot one way back; a kid and his guitar...

Can't tell you exactly how much it hurts to hear someone put VH in the back seat to Courtney Love. I'm not sure Kurt would have even agreed. :)

He's still doing the recorded pieces (Mean Streets intro, Little Guitars, Cathedral, 316, Eruption), but it's not as scripted as it seemed a few years ago. For a few years there he was playing the same 18 minute solo from the "Live...Without a Net" video almost note for note like it was another song in the repertoire. Since usually the songs are 100% dead-on, except for the vocals, the solo was too. I think people started busting on him for that & he's gone back to being more spontaneous.
He was all over the place at the Hershey last Sunday, but the sound was a bit off. The great thing is that the camera is on his hands throughout the entire solo, and there's three huge screens around the stage to watch it on. But you would watch him tapping, and the sound wouldn't always be there...hopefully they'll have it worked out by the tie they get to Jersey. But, like you said, NO ONE was taking a piss-break during Ed's solo.
and he played Little Guitars [one of the coolest VH songs ever] on yep; a little les paul looking mini-guitar
He hasn't used the mini-Les Paul in quite a while, but he did bust out the 5150-Kramer-neck-Frankenstrat during one of the new songs. Other than that, it was strictly the same sunburst Peavey Wolfgang with the D-Tuna for the whole show.

I think going to a Courtney Love show has a much better chance of ending in a nice big cash settlement for the attending crowd. The Van Halen brothers take their aggression out on the lead singer.

WOW...what a fuckin' show!
Well, all the worries I had about the quality of the Hershey Park show were washed away fairly quickly last night at the Continental Airlines Arena. I missed the opening act again, but I still haven't gotten a straight answer as to who the opening act was, so I'm OK with that.
But we got into the arena just as the opening notes of "Jump" were playing & I could already tell that the sound was 10 times better than the last show. And as I made my way to the floor seating (first time in my life, took to the age of 30 so it's about time...pun intended), the sounds of one of my favorite Van Hagar songs, Humans Being, washed over me. The sound was so heavy I felt like I was walking against a stiff breeze. It was sensational.
They played essentially the same set as the PA show, with an extra song or two & a double encore. I've never seen the building look better, hell the Devils & Nets play there, so I've never seen it so full either. And for this show they used an unique stage, in the shape of the VH swirl logo. They actually seated fans inside the rings of the logo, therefore INSIDE the stage.I can't even imagine what the show must have sounded & looked like from those seats.
The whole show was incredible, but the most amazing part of the night (for me anyway) occurred during Eddie's solo. This time it seemed even longer than the PA show, and not only did it sound better, but Ed was inspired & just went nuts like I haven't seen in years. My kid brother's college roommate (a fantastically talented guitarist in his own right) was with us, and I kept sneaking a peek at him during the solo.he sat in awe, mouth agape, and yet still a hint of a shit-eating grin curling at the corners.
The response was so incredible that Eddie stopped around the halfway point to thank the audience, same as the last show, but was so overwhelmed by the continued wall of cheers that he stopped again & nearly broke down into tears....and it didn't end there.
After the second pause in the solo, Eddie sat down at the front edge of the stage & began to play a loose interpretation of "316." For anyone who cares but doesn't already know, "316" is an instrumental piece that Ed used to play on an acoustic guitar, close to Val's belly when she was pregnant. It was tentatively being worked into a full song for the F.U.C.K. album. After Wolfgang's birth, however, the idea for a full song was scrapped & the piece was titled "316" (Wolfie was born on March 16, 1991) and left as is.
So, Ed starts into this next & final segment of his solo & my eyes are still fixed on the giant screen behind him, as the cameraman has a close-up of his hands for the majority of the solo. Before the camera cut away from Ed, a buzz started to build in the crowd, but I kept my eyes on the screen & continued to watch the master do his work. Suddenly the screen changed to a close-up shot of a chubby, long-haired kid. As the camera pulled back, you could see that he was wearing a black VH t-shirt, and had a red & black Franken-Strat inspired Peavey Wolfgang Special (smaller model) slung over his shoulder. It was Wolfie, and he was playing along with Dad to his song. My brother said he's never seen my face quite as priceless as it was at that moment. I was blown away.
What a Fathers Day gift/moment that must have been for those two.
All in all the show was excellent from start to finish. I can't wait to see how they change it up tonight.
p.s.: Mike.did you make it to this show? I thought I might have seen you walking through the parking lot beforehand. That's if you let your hair grow a little long on top & had it pulled/tied back(?) But naturally I can't be sure since we've never actually met.

Well for me?
Atomic Punk
Sinner's Swing
Little Guitars
etc.
I hope yer right, because there were seats literally next to the stage available all day on TicketBastard, and a look at eBay shows peeps cant even get face value for these.
