The main reason I called Jeff wasn't that I feel I am above criticism or a good message board trashing, it was simply the term 'sellout'. I felt it was used incorrectly and unfairly. I did do two shows with MTV for Spring Break and as it is with any creative situation, I have no control over the lines they cut. During the taping, I told David Daskal that looking at him made me think of Andy Dick raping Carrot Top and it didn't make the air (I figured it wouldn't). To me being a sellout has nothing to do with trying to further my career on MTV. Of all the networks (including HBO) that showed up to my Westside Theater show, they were the ones who came to the table with interest. They saw my act, in it's entirety, and wanted me to work with them. If anythign, I am grateful.
A sellout to me is someone who denies who they are creatively for no other reason than money. I flew to Cancun to shoot, flew home in the middle of the shoot to be roasted, then flew back. At my roast Opie and Anthony went onstage to open the show, and through the entire show all everyone talked about was me being used as a toilet (and God bless them for bringing it up). I then flew back and finished taping in Cancun. I didn't hide one aspect of my personality or act or feelings. If I show up on TV and start singing the praises of political correctness, or denouncing O&A or anything of that nature, then I am indeed a sellout and a jizz bag to boot.
Historically MTV is one of the only networks to consistently give me any kind of work or show any interest. I have trahsed the political correctness at that network because it sickens me in all aspects of life and entertainment. Comedy Central now gives me more than any network ever did and there are standards issues with them I go through all the time. Just because there are elements of a networks make up I don't like doesn't mean I'll never appear on the network. What kind of fucking dummy would I be as a performer to turn down MTV If they want to work with me?
I was, for a time, interested in doing Last Comic Standing. I did a few episodes but due to contractual obligations could not go on to the finals (in hindsight I am extremely glad it worked out the way it did). I kind of knew all along that it would be that way but I will be lying if I say I was not very tempted. The main reason I had intrest was because while i DETEST comedy competitions, I loved the aspect of being in the house. Where else on network television can you be funny without a script? To be filmed naturally, without some cheese dick lines being written for me by some west coast colostomy bag was very appealing. I never thought I would win it, I am too creepy and abbrasive, but I have enough faith in the fact I am funny to be comfortable being put into a situation like that. I thought that while we will shit on Vos for it, as we should, he came off looking like himself.
Anyway, enough of my babbling. I called Jeff because although it's been a while, I still had his number. I had a problem with what he wrote and we discussed it. He was honest about why he wrote it and I was honest about why it bugged me. Once again, do not misinterpret this as requesting a free pass from being trashed. But I have always been open about my perversions and deviances and hatreds and that is not going to change. You'll be hard pressed to find one interview I have ever done where I do not defend Opie&Anthony, state my intentions of returning with them, or mentioning urine or logs on my chest. sincerely, little jimmy gumdrops

I'm glad Jim decided to chime in on this instead of just letting virtually anonymous people spew opinions without knowing what really is going on or the behind the scenes dealings that drive people to do the things they do.

Hell, Jim even played a gig at a Howard Johnson's in my cancer cluster dump of a town. In any other circumstance it would appear as if he was just whoring out to play any gig possible (not that there's anything wrong with that), but even during his gig, he had mentioned that it was as a sort of a favor to a friend to do his 45 minutes or so in a small room that would have otherwise been rented out for some awful white trash wedding reception. He came out, did his show, the crowd loved it, and that's all that mattered.

So sometimes there's just more to things than it seems.

I was just in Cancun and now I'm bummed out I didn't get a chance to go see him.

I think it was awesome Jim Posted. I think a lot of people, including myself, have an even deeper respect for him now then they did before. Jim is not only a great comedian but also a stand up guy (pun indented because I am so witty). He does not have to explain himself to anyone, but he chose to. I think that is awesome. I have been to 4 of his shows, and laughed my ass off every time. I was one of the people who initially was not happy to see him on MYV. After this explanation and hearing other people weigh in, I see it much clearer now. Whatever Jim decides to do I, as a fan, will support him. I will buy tickets to whatever the hell venue he is at and bring as many people as I can. He is the best comedian I have ever seen on a stage. Thanks to Jim for giving enough of a shit about his fans to post here. That was awesome and will not be forgotten anytime soon.

One of the reasons I've always respected Norton because the guy speaks his mind and isn't afraid to say it. I never understood the argument about him appearing on MTV in the first place. The first time I heard mention of him on MTV was when Amy told me she saw him. I later saw one of the shows and I said to myself I'm sure he said whatever he wanted and MTV probably just chopped it all up and made it PC. like Norton said, it's a gig and he got to be himself so more power to him for it.

To answer angrymissy's question (and i don't want to upset her, she's the type of gal that really tells it like it is. stay out of her way boys, she's quite a firecracker), o&a wouldn't have ripped on me for appearing on mtv, they would have understood exactly why i did it (i suppose hicks was a sellout for appearing on letterman, pryor for appearing on the tonight show and carlin for appearing on both. i mean, how could these guys go on network television where they KNEW they'd be censored?). to be honest, i've seen them both recently and they were both happy that i got the gig. i hope that helps to clairy your speculation.
