We need a book section here. I threw it into Entertainment. Mods, if it needs to be moved, let me know. Sorry for any inconveinience.

Anyway...

A friend of mine is hooked on these books by Terry Pratchett and even though he has given me plenty of information on his Discworld series, I wanted to ask the literarily intelligent here what they know and what enlightenment you can give me ont he subject.

All I know so far is that this Discworld is complete fantasy and nothing of this earth. The world is held up on a disc and North, South, East and West are comprised of four elephants that hold the discworld up. There is a giant sea turtle that dwells int he middle of the four elephants and is the representation of hell. I have heard of invasions of six inch blue men, shopping carts and various other things.

It sounds really cool and I am just wondering more about it anbd most importantly if anyone else here reads any of the books. Also is there an order to how the books have to be read. Online info I have found has said yes, no and maybe. It all depends on the person reading.

Oh yeah, I know Terry Pratchett is British. Thumbs up in my book.

Any info.......THANKS!

i love this series
there are about 30 books in the series now. they are fantasy, pratchet takes a concept such as film making or policing and applies it to the characters in the diskworld, giving the subject matter a ridiculious perspective, and it is very very funny.

i got into the series 10 years ago, and every since have read about 4 of the books in a row, before getting bored and not lifted another one for about 2 years

his books always reach the top of the book charts in the uk, i don't read any other fantasy author

you don't need to read the books in any order, as he gives a brief intro to all the established characters in the narritive and he always runs 2 story lines simultaniously, which gives great comic potential

the books are a very easy read

FYI: fiction books belong in Entertainment. You are correct, sir.

We don't have enough book discussions to warrant a new forum, but feel free to discuss whatever books you'd like in the appropraiate forums.
