Run Ronnie Run

Cult Movie Alert...straight to video is "Run Ronnie Run" but it's really a long "Mr. Show" episode starring David Cross and Bob Odenkirk from their HBO tv sketch series. If you like the boys from Mr.Show, you will love this movie. It's full of guest stars and high end hi-jinx like those "Groove Tube" flix from the 70's. Troy Miller (D&Dumberer was awful) directed this very funny and stupid white trash sendup of a "Cops" TV type show centers on Ronnie Dobbs (Cross) being chased every week.

It's a better version of "Joe Dirt", mullets and beer and Black Oak Arkansas and T-shirts that say the darndest things, prinkled with insert movie scenes, music video parody, and a kung-fu fat kid. Odenkirk plays an info-mercial salesman who sells kitchen tools like a mop cleaning mop. The opening cartoon is a pisser, and Mandy Patinkin nude on stage. Jack Black pops in with a very dirty song. I'm glad I ran across this. Look for 'Kids in the Hall' people. White Trash laughs galore( love it)

I'm a huge Mr. Show fan, but I was underwhelmed by this film. It had some great moments, but the director really seemed to struggle to find the right tone. I completely understand why Bob and David did not want this film released. As for Joe Dirt, I really can't compare the two as I avoid going to David Spade movies the way I avoid going to Haiti for blood transfusions.

Yeah, I am a HUGE fan of Mr. Show, and anything Bob and David do, except for that movie. After I saw it, I wasn't surprised that it was neve released. Meh. It has its moments, but overall, its no good.

One of them (the one on Arrested Development) was on The Sports Junkies or Don and Mike a few weeks ago and they completely dis-avow the movie; they said the director ruined what they were trying to do.

I thought it had some really great gags but the overall continuity made for some really long lulls. I can see how the direction failed the writers, but it's still worth the rental for all the bits with David Cross getting busted by the cops and the Jackie Chan out-takes at the end.
