Alot of people i meet from NJ say that theyre either from Jersey or South Jersey, Where is the beginning point of South Jersey?

I wouls say whenever you start getting the Philly stations. I am cursed in Central Jersey with only two Philly stations, all the NYC stations and MSG, YES and Fox Sports NY. Is it true that YES is a pay channel? Anyway, I think real hardcore South Jersey starts somewhere once you hit Burlington Country or anywhere below the NJ-PA Turnpike Bridge. Either that or once you start to get some really really good cheese steaks.

anything below the center of the map... i grew up in Jersey City and it wasn't until I started working in South Brunswick when i was 26 that i learned people in the southern half of the state were Phila fans and they like to go hunting... i was actually quite suprised, i thought most of the whole state followed NY teams

I'm from New York, so take this for what it's worth, but I've always gone by accents. If the locals sound like they're from Brooklyn, a la Tony Soprano, you're in North Jersey. If they have even the vaguest hint of a Philly accent, you're safe calling it South Jersey. Central Jersey remains a mystery.

Central Jersey runs from, and <i>includes</i> Princeton to Union County.

Also, people who live in Virginia, DC, and Maryland having nothing to brag about when it comes to New Jersey (I've lived in both locations for numerous years)... unless you're a big fan of planned housing developments and strip malls with some crack dens thrown in the middle for spice. Come to think of it.. it's <i>exactly</i> like New Jersey.

Edit: to continue the comparison, Baltimore is the Newark of Maryland.

Sure sure... and Adams Morgan isn't a low rent Hoboken, you Dupont Circle frequenter. Don't get me wrong, the best thing about New Jersey is its proximity to the city, just as the best thing about Maryland/Virginia is their proximity to DC.

Central Jersey runs from, and includes Princeton to Union County. But Monmouth County also covers that. I am from the Belmar/shore area and have always considered myself Central. It is neither north or south....hence the name Central Jersey.

South Jersey starts where the 609 area code begins. Simple as that.

This is true, I was failing to recognize a "Central" Jersey altogether. But, in my defense, I had a buddy who lived in Matawan for two years & some of the locals (at least some of the pub patrons we encountered) definitely had a little South Jersey in 'em.

I am from South Brunswick myself, right smack in the middle, not on the eastern side near the shore, and not near the western side near the mountains in somerset. I agree with the comment about burlington county being South Jersey. Mcguire air force base is definitely south jersey, along with the army base i believe. In addition, South Jersey is DEFINITELY anything below seaside ala Forked River.

It's not the Best but the Geology exhibit at the Smitsonian Museum of Natural History [the one with the big stuffed elephant in the lobby] has a pretty good one, and if you go through the coolection and look closely at the tags you soon realize that by by far, these come from one place on earth. And it's New Jersey.

Northern mostly, up in Sussex county, Franklin and Ogdensburg. The mining there brought, and brings the most diverse tresure trove of rocks on the planet. Go figure.

And of course, never ever ever forget the Burgess Shale.

My mom and bro lived in New Zealand for 3 years. When my bro came back he was white as hell and very skinny. I almost didn't recognize him. He told me he used to almost get in accidents for driving on the wrong side of the road.
