Man, are the Philly fans really that hated?
I was going to post about this this morning but I figured who cares, this is a NY based board and NYer's hate anything Philadelphia.
So anyway, I mosied on down this morning and was able to watch from Broad Street and watched the corner on broad and Pattison fall. The Penthouse Suites elevator tower was there and you almost thought it was going to stay erect for a bit but then it came tumbling down. It was a very community filled event and you got a real sense of the brotherhood and sisterhood of the Philadelphia sports fan.
I still remember going to my first games when I was a little chubby kid from the suburbs. I am gonna scream if Millwood gives up another Home Run. 4 ALREADY! Anyway, my first game was against the Giants and we sat iun the 500 level which was in the Upper Bowl. I can still remember the excitement as my Mom and Dad led me up the ramp and you got to the top and then began to see the bright Orange and Yellow seats and then ultimately the bright scoreboards and green fields. I remember being there until 4 in the morning watching a rain soaked extra inning game versus the Dodgers and sneaking down all the way from the 700 Level. Even the fun memories from last year going to damn near 20 games including the game I went to with Reef and Amy as they sat pretty much directly across from me in the stands and we would text message back and forth as to if Rolen would hit the Home Run or not. Damn you Rolen! Damn you! There was also the Final Weekend against the Braves and the Closing Ceremonies and the Final Fireworks and getting to lay on the outfield turf with the stars and fireworks above and hanging with two of my really good friends.
I am gonna miss the place but there is a new park right across the street that fittingly got coated with The Vet's dust. Hopefully that won't be a curse ont he new place cause I really want to see a baseball title before I did. I can hardly remember 1980.
So there it was and I have a shitload of pictures to hold onto.
It was our toilet. Our shithole. Our pit. Our memories. It was ours and it is gone.

I watched the implosion on Philadelphia Ch. 10 this morning. The thing I'll miss most about The Vet is the general admission seats. On most nights you could have an entire section to yourself. Spend a few innings behind home plate then move behind third or first or to the outfield.
I saw my only World Series and NLCS game there plus the '96 All-Star Game. I also saw Genesis and U2 there. Quite a few memories for someone who's been in the greater Philadelphia area for only 12 years.
Sure, it was a shithole but part of the fun was bitching about it. Hopefully the new baseball stadium will bring some more good memories.

Looks like the last of the Cookie Cutters that I know of (Busch Stadium) will be coming down in a few years.
St. Loius Cardinals New Ballpark plans (http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/future/CardinalsBallpark.htm)
There is also stuff on the Cardinals Official Site (http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=stl)
There are also plans on that Ballpark site about new stadiums and plans for the Red Sox, Mets and Yankees. Pretty interesting pictures.

Take those with a grain of salt...I heard about the new Mets stadium years ago, most likely scrapped.
This Citizen bank ballpark looks pretty nice, I must say.
