And looking at it recently, so utterly relevant. He chronicled Bush Sr. going from stratospheric Approval ratings to losing an election the Bush camp was so confident about they issued a memo to the Election Staffers that they really wouldn't be needed, since coming off Desert Storm it's obvious that the re-election is a formality. Not in those exact words, but just about that cocky.

HST has done some of the best political reporting I've ever read. The 'Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail'? Holy Shit you think politics is nasty Now?! Bush and Kerry are ham-and-eggers compared to the shit that flew around in '72.

I won't even mention '68. Oops.
