View Full Version : 2004, The Year of the Midcarder?

Lets face it, The Rock is concentrating more time on making movies. Goldberg is gone, Brock might be going to the NFL. Austin can not wrestle anymore, Kurt Angle looks like he might have another neck injury and HHH could be taking some time off to do movies.
Where does that leave the WWE? They have to elevate some of the higher echelon mid carders. They already have done it w/ Guerrero. So is this the year that Cena gets a big push? Possibly RVD might be elevated to World title status. Also Jericho who has the talent and the mic skills could be a headliner once again. Lets hope they dont give The Big Show another run at the belt

The radical surgery apparently doesn't work too well for guys who take a lot of bumps (which explains why Scott Hall, who had the same sugrery, still seems to be doing fine). Earlier this week he started experiencing numbness in his hands and was immediately pulled from all shows. The general consensus is that he should have gone in for the tried-and-true neck surgery that Edge, Lita, and others had undergone, and at this point his wrestling future is very much in question.
As to the question at hand, there's several guys at the mid-card level who are more than capable of being thrust into main event status. The question is, will these guys be recognized, or will they be passed over for Vince's big, beautiful monsters?

This is from Meltzer's site
Kurt Angle has been taken off WWE shows due to numbness that has returned in his fingers.
Apparantly, Angle called WWE offices this morning complaining about the numbness. He will have an MRI performed in the upcoming days to determine the cause of the numbness.

He should just retire. He has absolutely nothing left to prove.
And I consider myself a big Kurt Angle fan. Which is why I'd rather see him walk away now before he goes out there and cripples himself for this business.
As for them pushing Big Show again.......I wouldn't necessarily be against it. Big Show's actually been working quite hard the past few weeks.

Oh, I totally agree. I just want him to still be able to play with his kid when all is said and done.

The stories of him standing up to Johnny Ace last week earned him brownie points with me.

Not much of a story, newport. The WWE have been having meetings every week with the talent. At a recent one, Vince & JR were not present for whatever reason, and this left Johnny Ace in charge.
On one of the flights to (or from, I forget which) the recent Smackdown tour of South Africa, Bradshaw apparently got drunk and a bit rowdy. Ace apparently used that incident to come down and chastise the entire Smackdown roster, saying they need to be more professional, etc.
Big Show earned some respect from his fellow co-workers (and some smarks) for standing up to Ace and basically saying that everyone else shouldn't have to take shit when the problem was just one particular guy.
BTW, if you can believe the rumors, Kurt Angle lost respect from a few workers, because he acted at one point as if he was going to speak up, but Johnny Ace "intimidated" him into remaining silence.

Interesting question, given how many of the big names apparently will not be present much (or at all) during the next year. People already commented on how long the Booker T/RVD vs the Dudley Boys went; how about Charlie Haas vs Shelton Benjamin? They lost the crowd, and I give them credit for not appearing to lose the cool. They shifted from ground wrestling to a faster pace, got the crowd back and ended well. Given the right development and support, both these guys can do much more.

I thought the entire Guerrero/Angel match was brilliant from beginning to end. It's too bad about Angle. I'm a big fan, but his health should come before anything else.

I predicted it right from the start of 2004. For some reason, I just knew that Vince was finally going to have to rely on the talent he should have been relying on earlier. The glass ceiling has broken and it's time for the guys who deserve it to finally get their chance to shine. IT'S A MID-CARDER REVOLUTION!

Uh....Triple H is still rearing his ugly head, and instead of the HBK/Benoit feud that would make the most sense to go into Backlash, it would seem to me that they'll go with HHH/Benoit. Also, with this draft is going to do more harm than good as some storylines could have been will be stopped short, and I feel some others may get blown apart. All they had to do was do a "trade" show on Raw instead of trying to overdo things with another damn draft. And quote me when I say, If Tazz and JR are paired up, you'll be screaminga t your TV. NO DAMN CHEMISTRY! Instead of trying to rehash JR and King, how bout you start looking for new guys? Because the announce team of Tazz/Cole is pretty good and getting better with each show.

Meltzer's already telling people that the plan is for Benoit to be nothing but a transitional champ, holding the belt for Triple H. Yes, HHH again. Why? Meltzer's theory is both bone-chilling and utterly plausible: Hunter wants to match - or beat - Flair's record for most world titles won.
My fear is that they'll put the belt back on Trips as soon as Backlash, which would be absolutely awful - and Hoganesque, as Hunter's going to be taking time off soon to film a movie.

I knew it! That numbness in the fingers is a bad sign. I had the same injury from a car accident in 2001 and I waited until April 2002 to have the cervical spinal surgery. In those 4 months I waited before having the surgery, I had the numb fingers and "electric" shocks running through the back of my arms and legs with certain movements of my neck. Kurt has been WRESTLING and hitting his neck quite a few times and now I think the pain is coming up to the point that he NEEDS the surgery now. I saw that move that Eddie did that hit Kurt's head pretty hard!. If he doesnt have that surgery now and one more bump in the right place, we will see him being rolled away on a stretcher for real!

Hunter wants to match - or beat - Flair's record for most world titles won.
I seriously considered this to be one of Hunter's ideas. When I began watching wrestling again last summer, and I heard of Hunter holding the belt for so long, and saw how bad his in-ring work had detiorated, along with his ego the size of manhatten, this slipped into my mind.
Well, if it works for Vince, it'll work for you guys as those of you who hope the fed would get back on tack keep watching week after week enduring the abuse The Clique put you through. But as for me, I'm leaving just as soon as Benoit or Eddie drop their title. Ok, lemme explain, if either one drops their title anytime earlier than June, I hop off the bandwagon and go back to a life without watching crap. And if the draft picks on Monday makes things unbearable, then I'm leaving even ealier.
