What happened with that guy selling 212-867-5309 on ebay? Didn't he have to pull it? Someone is selling 213-867-5309 for LA now. What's the scoop?

e-bay pulled it. Verizon complained.

They claim that they own the numbers and you just lease them. In which case, you don't have the right to sell your phone number like that.

Okay, but I don't get it. What if it's a business number like 1-800-CALL-ATT? They had to have got that number specifically, adn then what if someone bought AT&T? Then they would have to own that number.

I guess Verizon has a problem with people making money off of the phone numbers they issue.

I'm lost. If you mean if at&t is bought by verizon, then verizon becomes the new owner of that number? Or if your company is bought by company b, then company b owns your company's number?

i work for verizon. an 800 number is just a number that is routed to a designated line. without getting too technical, if your main line is 201-555-5555, you just set up an 800 number like 1800eatshit and when you call that number it just gets routed to your 555 number. little trick, if you pick up your phone and press 958 the operator tells you the number you are on. do that to an 800 number, and it says the real number. any more questions?

Interesting. I guess it works just like a DNS-Local folder setup.
