they sruprised by actually acknowledging bret as part of the number 1 match. although hbk-hall at mania 10 shouldve been number 1. and they left out the bret vs owen classic at mania x. but the idea of the iron man at 12 got it makes me happy, it was a great match until gorilla monsoon hadda interfere.

I was surprised that TLC was #2, considering those guys aren't main eventers, great match though. A match with Ultimate Warrior and Hogan place above Angle-Benoit, something is wrong there. I'm surprised HHH didn't insert one of his matches. Why is the ladder match between Hall and Micheals considered to be "great"?

because it was the greatest match of all time. because that match redefined the gimmick match. because hbk and hall gave their all in that match. because as i watched it i was saying 'wow' over and over again. and it was only two people. it wasnt 6 men. it was simplicitya nd greatness. it was watching hbk drop kick the ladder back in the day when that was his finishing move. it was watching hbk geting catapulted into the ladder. quite simply watch it, youll be amazed.

Oh please, that match is only regarded well because it was an oasis of decency in a sea of swill in the WWF at the time. Completely overrated. You stress simplicity, what is more simple than Steamboat/Savage? The only 5 star matches I've seen at WM are Steamboat Savage and Owen/Bret
The Ladder Match is 4 stars, but it wasn't phenomenal workwise, and it lacked intensity. I mean, for my money, to be a great Wrestlemania match, Intensity is as important as work and not only would I rank the two matches I mentioned ahead of the Ladder match, but I'd also put:

Hogan/Warrior
Andre/Hogan
Rock/Hogan
Hart/Austin

all ahead of the ladder match. It's definately top 10, but incredibly overrated in my book.

I have only seen each of those matches once each, and I remember HBK-Razor Ramon as being one of the best. Whether it was because the age i was when i saw it or because the match was that good i guess i don't know. I can't say there is a best match ever because i don't think you can say that without real support, but that is one of the best i've ever seen.

The Owen-Bret match that opened that Wrestlemania is also excellent. I think it went a half hour and it opened the show!!!! Awesome.

This is of course based on the fact that i only saw 6-19 live on TV. I only saw the Mr. T tag match (which i seem to remember liking less than like the boxing match between Piper and him) and the Steamboat-Savage years later. This is of course a big factor in my judgement so i can't say the Steamboat-Savage match is worse than Michaels-Ramon.

I never really liked the Ironman Match. For some reason they are just in general boring matches for me. That one was much better than others and is probably in my top 10, but it's like 6.

The ending to Bret Hart-Austin was outstanding and overall was very good too and probably in my top 5.

EDIT: I have found a list of Mania matches, my top 13 (because i'm just that damn good) would be:

13: British Bulldogs-Valentine & Brutus (II)
12: Angle-Benoit (XVII)
11: Warrior-Savage (VII)
10: Warrior-Hogan (VI)
9: Rock-Hogan (XVIII)
8: Michaels-Austin (XIV)
7: TLC (2000/XVI)
6: Michaels-Bret (XII)
5: might be a sleeper, but Angle-Benoit-Jericho (2000/XVI)
4: Austin-Bret (XIII)
tie for 3-1: Steamboat-Savage (III), Owen-Bret (X), Ramon-Michaels (X)

How the fuck does a spotfest match (although admittedly, an entertaining one) make the top ten, let alone number two, beating out Savage / Steamboat?!?!

Let's not even get into the fact that Rock / Hogan has absolutely no business being on this match. A hot crowd does not a top ten match make.

any era that bret hart was a part of was fantastic. he carried any and everyone in any kind of match. the amtch between bret and owen that started the night as shamus said was stellar. and since the michael and hall stole that night even from bret the greatest of all time, that says something. bret hart was the greatest to ever strap up the boots. you cant say his era was filled with 'swill'. he made diesel and taker look like amazing wrestlers. he made yokozuna seem a hundred pounds lighter. his matches were all amazing.

I think the next Bret Hart, or the Bret Hart we have on our hands now is none other than Kurt Angle. The man made Bob Holly look good. Now thats something! And Kurt's technical wrestling abilities are second to none in the business today. The only others who can even come close to his work rate and excellence are Benoit and Guerrero. And aslo to note, the retired Dean Malenko matches in their tiers as well. Angle's matches are wrestling gold, and he is the Brat Hart of our era.

while i will admit kurts the man, i still think benoit is better. but neither of them are bret hart. the day kurt or benoit can make taker seem quick and agile, (im a huge taker fan but im honest about it) or the day either of them make rikishi seem good, hell the day either of them make brawlers like austin look technically sound, then we can talk. i dotn remember whom said it on this board mightve been clerk, but 'bret hart could carry a broom in a match.'
