What Snoogans is trying to say is it's more tragic to have BIG dying over Tupac. Tupac was a poseur who willingly and gleefully pushed the "lifestyle" Hosp is talking about and paid the price for it. BIG was most likely killed for all kinds of accusations about what he did to Tupac, which simply weren't true, and we're propped up by lies and gossip and the music magazine/MTV-fueled "East vs. West Coast" bullshit.

i'm not saying that people who aren't immersed in hip hop culture never have run-ins with guns. i'm qute confident that there are also people not associated with rock culture who OD. but that's not really the point. a large portion of our hip hop artists come from backgrounds of gang violence and the like. and that's the lifestyle that they write about, and that's how they often continue to live. how often do you see hip hop artists ODing? sure, they do some drugs, but it's not something you see very much. by the same token, how often do you hear of a rock star being shot up?

how can you use biggie's situation to say that i'm wrong? it looks to me like great support for what i'm saying. he got killed because the warring hip hop faction thought he was involved in one of their own's murder? yeah, definitely nothing to do with the hip hop culture.

It's such a shame b/c he was such a dope rapper. You can see this in the fact that so many New York rapper pay homage to him in their raps and they also use the Biggie style of writing rhyming, which is
not actually writing the song on a piece of paper but keeping in your head and spitting it on the mic almost spontaneously.

im sayin the fact that big was shot didnt have anything to do with lifestyle, people just shot him based on falacy..that makes no sense. whether or not biggie was shot because of false beliefs as to his involvement with tupac's death, what makes you say that this has nothing to do with his lifestyle?

- there's a good chance tupac wouldnt have gotten shot in the first place if it hadn't been for his lifestyle
- if biggie wasn't part of the same lifestyle, he never would have been falsely implicated in tupac's death
- if it weren't for the lifestyle, even if someone did believe that biggie was responsible, they wouldnt have gone ahead and shot him

Few people really deserve to be killed, but I think that people saying that Biggie didn't live the lifestyle might be a little off point. I remember pictures of the Notorious One with his hands posed so it looked like he was pulling a trigger.

Another thing to think of with regards to rap music is that it is a music that was based on competition. To get to be the biggest star you had to battle the other guys and beat them with a mic. There were a lot of battles that came out of misunderstandings, but back in the day, battles were good for rappers and both sides would win through fame and record sales. Today's rappers seem to have lost the spirit of the battle and take them so personally, they are willing to shoot their opponent rather than write a dis-record back at them like they used to back in the day.

this is taken out of context, though. i was talking about hip hop artists overdosing. sure, there's tons of pot present in hip hop, but when was the last time someone ODed from smoking a fatty?

i can't believe anyone's even arguing this point. look at the hip hop artists and see how many of them have been shot, or shot at. now take a look at the rock artists and see how many of them have died from overdoses. is anyone seriously disputing that there's a difference in the two cultures?

So someone is fair game if they, say, play "cowboys 'n' indians" as a kid?!?you're getting way into a whole other thing, mojo. deserved to be killed? fair game? absolutely not. who even said that? to be expected? well, maybe a little. it's a shame that things have to be that way, but they are that way. i won't claim to know everything about biggie's life, and i think that it was a terrible thing that he was killed, but i do kow that there's something about hip hop that in large part is synonymous with violence.

Rapping ABOUT violence and actually engaging in violence are two totally different things. Guys like 2Pac did both and paid the price. Biggie only did the former. By that thinking, Martin Scorsese should be watching his ass because he's made mostly violent films about criminals, even though he's not engaged in violent activites himself.

Biggie Smalls used rap to get himself and his family AWAY from street violence and the drug trade. THAT'S what makes his death all the more tragic.

I get what you're saying, I think. Maybe. There's plenty of violent assholes in the rap game who bring it on themselves and inflict it on others. But there are just as many that don't. Biggie was one of the latter group.

Look how many rock stars have been killed in plane crashes vs. how many rap stars have been killed in plane crashes.

The only logical conclusion?

THIS "ROCK STAR VS. PLANE WAR" MUST STOP.

Won't someone PLEASE think of the children who love both planes AND rock stars?!?that's bullshit and you know it. you're too smart to be posting something like this.

b.i.g. - shot and killed
tupac - shot and killed
jam master jay - shot and killed
soulja slim (master p. protege) - shot and killed
jason "camoflauge" johnson - shot and killed
fifty cent - shot
dr. dre - shot
death row records - shot up
tha row records - shot up
murder, inc. records employee - shot
p. diddy - charged with gun possession
eminem - gun charges
snoop - gun violation

and this is what i found in about ten minutes... you're not really saying that it's a coincidence?

Biggie Smalls used rap to get himself and his family AWAY from street violence and the drug trade. THAT'S what makes his death all the more tragic.

I get what you're saying, I think. Maybe. There's plenty of violent assholes in the rap game who bring it on themselves and inflict it on others. But there are just as many that don't. Biggie was one of the latter group. you're right - the fact that biggie was a good guy does make his death more tragic. no one ever said otherwise.

look, people in the hip hop indrustry for some reason get shot a lot more than people in other industries. unfortunately, that seems to be true whether these people want to be involved in that violence or not. i won't speak for anyone else, but that's all that i was saying. if you want to deny that, then let's continue this. if not, i think we're in agreement.

I'm lost.rock has been around much longer than hip hop. of course there have been more rock stars killed in plane crashes.

you were being facetious and you know it.

I don't think anyone is in disagreement with this. Everyone just keeps arguing two different points...we're talking about Biggie...you're talking about the rap industry as a whole. There's no argument to begin with because everyone's arguing a different thing at the same time. There's no debate. Rock stars tend to die of drugs if they die young, rap stars tend to die because of violence. And...? We're all on the same page already...it's cool.

And no, I was making fun of rock stars dying in plane crashes. That's it. I was trying to lighten things up. CURSE MY AWFUL COMEDY!

What about the anniversary of when Fabio got hit in the face and bloodied by a bird on a roller coaster. It happened on March 30th, 1999 (http://www.wasteoftechnology.com/articlefabio.shtml).

mojo is right we are all arguing 2 different points. ari, youre saying that hip hop violence is indicative of the lifestyle. but thats because thats all theyve known. alot of rappers made money to buy their studio time through selling drugs, jay-z was millionaire because of crack before he ever released reasonable doubt. and growing up in hood is alot different than growing up in suburbia. my 2 best friends grew up out on long isle, i stayed in queens. we have very different perceptions about he world, and see it very very differently. ive heard gunshots outside of my window, i see crack beign sold almost every day. but my friends in suburbia dont understand this. theyve never had a body of a chinese delivery guy dumped in the park a block away from them, i have. i understand why rappers carry guns. because people are fucking morons. because you talk shit in your music, people will believe your telling actual stories and try to test you. if you leave the hood behind completely you will lose the street cred very quickly. and once you lose your street cred people will stop buying and listening to your music. rap isnt like rock, its far more volatile.

For, what, an example of a humorless cockface sucking on a long, hard dose of smackdown?
