I went with Sparks's because it possesses every quality a great steakhouse should....vaguely raffish, speakeasy ambience, phenomenal wine list, a salty crusted aged sirloin and motion sensitive toilets.
You really can't go wrong with any of the first five on that list - along with the Palm and Gallagher's. Curiously, I've always enjoyed Peter Luger's, but Ive never been knocked back in awe by it the way so many people claim to be. If Im gonna make a trip over to Brooklyn for eats, its usually for the River Cafe.

I eat at the Arthur's in Emerson every Thursday, and I've eaten at the Arthur's in Hoboken (we even had a RF.Net Steak Out there). It most definitely does not belong on a best steak list.

Arthurs is way overrated. And they need to do something with their decor. By the way whats with the bucket of pickels and the unusually large salad thing the give you as an appetizer? Why not just throw some sawdust down on the floor and go with it? Longhorn's is pretty good. It's a chain like outback, everything on the menu is excellent but for 2 people to have a 3 course meal you're dropping AT LEAST 75 bucks.

I have. It tastes much like an $8 burger.

My vote goes to Shulas.

I'm not much of a steak eater. and the only "fancy" place I have around me is Morton's, so I'll go with that.

Though like TC said, I dig the Palm, and probably would have voted that.

Uncle Smokey is right that Gallagher's should be on the list.

And don't forget Ben Benson's.

Steak House in Hoboken called Arthur's

I'm a big fan of the Arthur's in Morris Plains. My buds & I try to make it there once a month or so. But of the places listed, I would have to go with Ruth's Chris. But I prefer the one in Weehawken, on the water...for some reason the one in Parsippany doesn't seem to get it right consistantly.

i'd go with brooklyn's finest, peter luger's ....

but i've only been another steakhouse, anelo & maxie's, and felt it was a little too littered with cigar-smoking fratboy cum stockbrokers .....

i dug the vibe of luger's, and still crave the steak sauce .....

all in all, give me a seared tuna or some salmon with a little lemon ....

I went with Sparks. Great steak and awesome history. Any Steak that is good enough to get Paul Castellano shot 12 times is good enough for me. I hit the Old Homestead in the Borgata hotel in AC a couple of weeks ago, and it was great, but too big, I was meat locked for a week. I happen to live near Good Time Charlie's, not exactly a place I would order Filet Mignon, but I'll try it. Good Burgers though anf Fransiskaner on tap. That's big time.

TGIF. I like a little flair with my steak.

Actually I've never been to a steakhouse that made the steak better than I can make it myself in half the time for a quarter of the price and I don't have to dress up. That being said I'd have to go with the CrinkleCrinkle Grill as #1.

Y'all can come over this weekend...We're cooking some nice brontosaurus steaks. A1 anybody?

Best bang for your buck I'd say Arthur's.

Best steakhouse has to go to Gallaghers.

I've been to Spark's, Peter Lugers, Smith & Wollenskies, but they just don't compare in my opinion.

The creamed spinach alone is worth the trip.

Took my wife to David Burke Prime in Foxwoods last night and it wasn't bad.

To be honest I thought the appatizers were better than the steaks.

I had some Surf & Turf dumplings which were awesome.

I also got a tomato bisque w/ minin grilled cheeses that was great.

The wife got the Casear's salad which I gladly finished when she couldn't.

Got out paying only $200 ( $160 and a $40 tip ) which wasn't bad considering the amount of food we ordered.

She's pregnant and didn't drink so that helped keep it down.

of the chains in the poll I prefer Morton's, from my experience they're like the McDonalds of better steakhouses, not the best but always consistently decent regardless of location

there are local choices that are much better, my favorites:
-San Francisco; Alfred's with honorable mention to the House of Prime Rib for the shear lunacy of meat
-San Jose; The Grill (they're a chain but never been to their other locations)
-Denver; Brook's
-Carmel CA; Anton & Michaels (not a steak house but I've had some amazing beef there)
-Dallas; III Forks or Bob's (prefer the Plano location)
-San Antonio; Bohanan's
-Nashville; Sperry's
-Washington; downtown Sam & Harry's; in the western beltway the Tyson's Corner Ruth's Chris
-Vancouver; Gotham
-Calgary; Carver's or Vintage Chophouse
-Edmonton; before they closed I spent many a happy drunken lunch a Hy's
-Toronto; Jacob's

now I want meat and creamed spinach
