ECW is back...Almost?

- There are continuing talks about bring Extreme Championship Wrestling back following WrestleMania XX. The current idea is to get Paul Heyman fired from the Smackdown brand and work for ECW as a rebel brand. It is possible that most of the ex-ECW wrestlers will be on the ECW brand. WWE would promote ECW as competition and not one of their official brands. If this does indeed happen, Shane McMahon may get involved in the story and help Heyman start the ECW brand. WWE would keep the budget low for the brand, run one PPV per quarter, and possibly give it a one-hour slot on Saturday nights each week.

I just read that too on 411. It would be cool to bring ECW back. There's so many guys in the WWE that do next to nothing right now and we knew Steph would get her "job" back eventually, so why not. The WWE has been stale for awhile, and this might make it somewhat interesting again.

I mean, I would LOVE to see ECW come back and to the general wrestling fan it would seem as it is a different promotion. Just knowing that it is still under the WWE Umbrella though still makes it just like a minor leauge or the mid-carders who aren't getting a chance to cut it and make it to the big time via Raw and Smackdown. Call me a pessimist but something just bites me the wrong way about it.

It'll probably be lame too. You know the Dudleyz and RVD will stay on Raw or Smackdown. So who will be in ECW? The same people we see on Heat and Velocity. If it's run as it's own fed and Heyman has creative control I'd be all for it.

I'm all for getting with the future, but this is what Vince needs to see. The ineptitude of a Steph headed writing staff. But I think this is only worthwhile if Shane Douglas and New Jack return, and Tazz, at least for one big blowoff angle. And why not lend out Cactus Jack for a big PPV?

I don't like this. If Vince wants to create a third brand, just start over with something new, instead of just a retread that you hope does well because people still have some sort of romantic feelings towards ECW.

If this ever materializes, I would strongly urge them to include a healthy number of NEW faces, instead of just culling all of the old ECW guys from Smackdown / RAW to fill in the ranks. Either bring up some guys from OVW, or hire some indy workers. There are TONS of guys who can work a hardcore style match on the indies. All they'd have to do is talent raid a bit with feds like IWA-MidSouth or CZW.

Jesus, how hard would it be to book him as such: bring him onto RAW using the superhero gimmick, and either a) put him in a tag team with Hurricane or b) turn him heel, make him a supervillain, and feud him with Hurricane.

Nothing Vince produces will ever truly mirror what ECW is. It'll be WWE-flavored "hardcore", which will essentially be ECW without the edge that made ECW....well, ECW.

I'm torn about this...

WHy I think it'd be cool:
1. many ECW wrestlers already wit the fed would be reunited
2. Paul E. would only be creative control, not $$$ control
3. finally give some of the lower-level talent a shot at showing what they got

Why i think it'll suck:
1. most of all majer ex-ECW guys won't ever work for WWE
2. no Joey Styles
3. HHH will still loom over it and influence who does what
4. it's the WWE....they'll make it too dman cheesy and restrict what Paul can do...look at the last months of his run in charge of Smackdown

BTW the revisionist DVD of ECW should be a laugh, I have the monday night wars one just for the comedy factor

Lance Strom was not only a member of the impact players but he was also a part of a very entertaining team of Chris Candinio. The thing is........ I have never heard Lance Storm do a high impact move and here the fans chant ECW ECW. People really recall him when he entered WcW and won 3 belts.

I forgot about Stevie Ricahrds and Tajari.... Now ECW will ROCK..... NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They could always sign some more guys like Steve Corino I heard he has a good relationsahip with Vince.He's been asked to tryout as announcer a few times for Smackdown.Also that might be the reason WWE is looking to dump some salaries like Cat,Kanyon,some girl named Nikita in OVW also not resigning Goldberg would free up some money.Plus they could get rid of Steiner.Then bring up some OVW guys like Johnny Jeter and Nova and I heard alot about Seven and Bane.You know they would sign Simon Diamond because he's married to Dawn and They would probably get some one like SuperCrazy and move all the cruisers to ECW.

I never heard this, and even though it wouuld be a waste of another talent (at least by comparison to some of the stuff that we're force-fed weekly), I like the idea of Corino as an announcer if they refuse to give him a job as an active wrestler. He was pretty good on a mic, I remember liking...er, liking to hate him. Which, incase no one has explained it to Vince, is the reaction you're looking for in a good heel, or in this case heel announcer.

But, I imagine that if they did move forward with this idea, they might need to hire him as in-ring talent just to have a big enough roster to make the brand...at least I hope so, as opposed to sending the future Garrison Cades of the world there to cut their teeth before getting a call to Raw or SD. Especially since he is a former ECW World Heavyweight Champion. Plus I'm sure they could find a way to use him to slap NWA in the face with the amount of time he's held the NWA title.

And he's turned them down. He doesn't want to be an announcer, and he shouldn't be one - he's too good a worker for it.

i remember calling the ECW house of hardcore. taz used to answer the phone and was a major dickhead to you.

There actually used to be a place on the web that would sell you the strap & uncolored plates to this belt in a "Do it Yourself" kit...but they went out of business, or got sued, or something, because they site is gone & the emails are never returned. Sadly, I would pay a decent amount to have an FTW title belt hanging next to the rest of my ECW memorabilia.

I loved ECW but I don't think this is a good idea. I think if the WWE wants to do something different that should create from the bottom up. I have a feeling that this will just seem like another Smackdown. WWE should create something new and fresh using new talent. This should be where they let international wrestlers and the cruiserweights do their thing. It should have it's own look and feel, maybe a red or green ring canvas, maybe a raised platfrom to enter the ring verssus the ramp style used by WWE, and not so much emphasized on pyro and production. The only connection to the WWE I would use is maybe put people like Flair and Angle as color with another announcer for some name recognition. It looks like their in ring work is coming to an end so lt them try announcing.

As much of a mark as I am for the bWo (wearing the shirt right now, coincidentally), I just don't see the gimmick working now. First, the inspiration for the parody is no longer in existance. Second, I just couldn't see a bWo with "serious" Nova, a thin(ner) Meanie, and the once-again psycho Stevie.
