So the new season starts this Sunday at nine. To tell you the truth I really don't remember much that happened last season since it was so long ago. Hopefully they do a long recap. But I am excited it's back.
And just to start this thread off right, here is Jamie-Lynn DiScala (yeah, she got married) at the premire.

Yes, very much so. 15 months of a wait will be okay with me if the show is good, not season 3-4 good, but season 1-2 good.
I liked Season 3 and found season 4 "okay"

I just finished watching the first 4 season on DVD last week. I've realized that each season has gotten progressively worse....but I'm still really excited!
Predictions on who's getting whacked? I'm betting that Carmine and Johnny Sac get it, and probably Paulie.

(Jafter's link wasn't working so I hope I'm not repeating what was in his article.) Here are some other actors joining the cast this season:
Ray Abruzzo: as Carmine Sr.'s son
Frankie Valli: as Rusty Millio, a rival mafioso
Polly Bergen: as Fran Felstein, a friend of Johnny Boy Soprano
Frank Vincent (the guy that played Billy in "Goodfellas"): as Phil Leotardo, a captain in Johnny Sack's crew.
Patti D'Arbanville: as loan shark Lorraine Calluzzo.
Joe Santos (from "The Rockford Files"): as Angelo Garepe, a former consigliere.
Robert Loggia: as Feech La Manna, a former mob boss.

Pretty decent episode, not as good as other Season premieres but I won't complain. A little too much AJ and Carmela, but that should change next week when Steve Buscemi (Tony) gets out.
I don't understand why they had a 1 episode fight between Christopher and Paulie. I was hoping that could go for the whole season.
Looks like the tention between Tony and Tony should be interesting in the next few weeks.

Anyway, not bad but it still seemed to move a bit slow for me. I sure hope the trend doesn't last all season.

[color=purple]It's the "Pine Barrens" episode, episode 37 from season 3. You can read about it here (http://www.hbo.com/sopranos/episode/season3/episode37.shtml)
As for tonight's ep, I thought it was pretty good, a solid B+. Thought for sure it was gonna end with the bear coming into the backyard and Tony simply enjoying the sight of it (not shooting it or even raising his rifle at all).
It was an interesting metaphor, Tony moves out and another bear moves in. Can't wait for Buscemi next week.

Aside from the very first show premier, I haven't been to big a fan of the first shows of each of the seasons. Mainly because they always seemed to go into way too many areas, and then ultimately things that they would touch upon for some reason would not even come back later in the season.
This one however I really liked. It pretty much stayed right on course and was very well done.
Classic parts for me....
- Tony calling Melfi a Cunt
- Paulie calling Christopher up to "buy the hatchet" I don't believe it's over betweem them for a second
- AJ crying over the bear and the way Carmella dealt with it.
- Robert Loggia rocks, he's going to be a great addition to the show.

I think the show loses a little when it brings in established actors who have played mobsters a hundred times. It gives it a been there done that kind of feel. Pauly is different, because he never really had a big speaking role before. But the dude from Goodfellas and Loggia, I don't need. Loggia is a nice man, but was too over the top. Buschemi is different, not a career mob actor.
A good way to threaten somebody is to light a stick of dynamite. Then you call the guy and hold the burning fuse up to the phone. "Hear that?" you say. "That's dynamite, baby."

I was just being sarcastic about the bear. I did see it. I was just commenting on the posting during the show. i would think it would deter from paying attention to the full show. I guess I am just being anal as it has always been a pet peeve of mine. Like the guy in the movie theatre texting his buddies about what is going on in the movie. Can't that wait until afterwards? It is like play by play in a sense.
- Robert Loggia rocks, he's going to be a great addition to the show.
What else has he been in? I thought I recognized someone but wasn't sure who he was.

I sensed that a parallel to the Kiss of Death. Christopher dies by mid-season.

People shouldn't be using their phones during a movie: Makin' calls, Text Messagin' or checking the time. Don't do it. it's disruptive to those trying to watch the movie.
Posting during the show is different because it doesn't bother people watching the show who aren't online during the show. I don't do it much, but I did posting something in the Sopranos Survivor Pool (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/80/Topic/37306/page/Sopranos_Survivor_Pool.htm) during the show.

Two other things I just remembered:
-- The picture they showed of Buscemi's character on TV with the mullet and Janice saying "He was such a stud!" I kept picturing those scenes from "Fargo" when they kept referring to him as a "funny-looking guy".
-- Baccala and Janice got married? (She asked "where's my wedding ring?") Good God...

Hmm, another decent episode but nothing special. If this Season is going to be any good one of these storylines has to go somewhere.
Episode 1- Looked like Christopher and Paulie were going to continue to fight for a while, but then suddenly at the end of the episode a phone call ends it.
Episode 2- Tony S. and Tony B. looked like they were really starting to get into it...but then Tony S. calls it off with a phone call.
Obviously the tention between these guys could return, but right now the story is going nowhere much like last season.
Why such an anti-climatic death for Carmine? They didn't even show him die. Whack Paulie, Furio..SOMETHING!
Next episode better pick up because the first 2 were way too slow.

Who's that captain wearing the wire? the one asking for a raise. They showed him during the FBI playing the tape from last seaon (Tony yelling at his bosses to earn more money, and that Junior was on trial for his life)
The only time I remember seeing that guy before was during that meeting and when they revealed he flipped (but that was way back in season 3)
I like how they keep replaying stuff from past seasons, because it's been a long time since the show was on. Speaking of which anyone see SNL last week (Colin Furth) The sopranos sketch had the only thing that Jimmy Fallon did that made me laugh, his impression of Silvio wearing the "Little Stevie" gear because he's been on tour with Bruce for so long he forgot his character on the Sopranos

Tony S did have a point, you can't have guy busting your balls when you're the boss of the family. (I thought Junior was still the boss and his trial was thrown out of court, why isn't he taking over. Tony was the "street boss" while Junior was in jail, on trial. Then again, I'm not a mafia expert, someone wanna explain this to me?)
Give Chrissy a chance. BTW you 24 fans recognise Vanessa Ferlito? Claudia died and ended up as Ade's hot Angelina Jolie looking friend, Tina (who Ade went and snichted on! She was conflicted before, but now just going all out?)

He's been on occasionally through all the seasons, usually in group scenes. Though he's also the guy who asked the FBI if he should wear a wire to Livia's funeral in season 3.

Something about the cinematography (I think thats it) was just amazing in this episode. Some of the angles and shots were very Tarantinoish in a way. Like the shot in Chris and Adrianna's bedroom where it is such a wide shot. That was so great.

I think the first two episodes are doing some great setups for the rest of the season. Tony vs Tony obviously isn't over yet. I love Adrianna snitching on her friend for hitting on Christopher.
And who can deny the majesty of Buscemi in the 80's Don Johnson suit?

-- Baccala and Janice got married? (She asked "where's my wedding ring?") Good God...
I wondered about that, too. It seems odd that Bobby would marry someone so quickly after his wife's death. And wasn't Janice "married" to some young kid in California?
But Tony made the comment, "It's your house" to Janice. But that was Bobby's place, right?
Oh I'm so confuzzled!

Janice introduced Bobby and his kids as her "husband and my family" to Buscemi in the last episode, so it seems they are indeed married.
How much time has passed between the seasons in the show? I'd assume a good six months, at least, which seems like plenty of time for someone like Janice to get her claws into a schlub like Bobby.

Awesome episode. A BIG step up from last week. I liked that we didn't have to see Carmela every 5 minutes. Plus its always great to see Paulie be a mean mother fucker. Hitting the guy in the head with a shovel and pulling the other out of a tree was classic.

Fantastic episode, I thought Tony was going to Christopher for speaking up during the sit down. Someone needs to put a bullet in Janice's head god she is annoying. How about Junior getting propositioned for a half/half in the back seat of his car by that 100 year old woman.

Makes me wonder how the scene from last season with Ralphie getting her from behind would have gond with Bobby in Ralphie's place. I wonder about weird shit like that.
Good episode and I like the progression of the season so far. Seems a lot more exciting so far. Sounds like some serious shit will go down in the coming weeks and as it starts to get really juicy (like Bobby and Janice) the season will be over.
I know that everyone in this thing is italian but for some reason it just seems as if Paulie is overacting his part alot. I can't wait for him to get whacked. Oh yeah, keep everything below Paulie's waist off camera. I thought he was going to poke out an eye.

The only weird thing to me from last night was when Baccala was talking to Tony, he mentions how things are going with Janice and then Tony proceeds to give marital advice to him, like "in marriages there's got to be a little give and take...". But it stikes me odd that he would be giving him this advice since I'm sure Bobby knows this. He was married previously. It almost seemed like he was trying to give advice to someone who wasn't, when we know he was already married.
Aside from that though, I thought it was a great episode. The look on the lawn guys face when he's mowing Johnny Sac's huge lawn in the end was classic.
The girl mobster begging the other mob guys for her life and to suck them all off was so funny.

I thought he was going to land in the power lines.
I love it when Paulie's mother Nucci is in an episode. When he's around her, he's the doting mama's boy. In the next scene he's kicking someone's ass.
I liked how Tony, as much of a tough guy he tries to be, still needed to hear his uncle tell him that he loved him. After the fight he had with Janice about her being like their mother, it's obvious that Livia still has a hold on him.

Unfortunately, one scene doesn't make up for the lackluster season so far.
I'm really not buying many of the storylines, and I don't feel that the episodes stand alone, as has been the case through most of the series. I'm looking for the 4th episode to tie up the last three, and I'm not feeling like that's going to be enough.

I agree with sil that season 5 hasn't been good as individual episodes. I'm not saying they're bad, it's still excellent, but it's gotten tot the point where you can't just watch an episode. You need to follow everything that has happened previously and be aware of everything everyone has done for seasons 4 and 5.

What do you people want? The season is good - they've all been good. Sure, there are some plot lines that go nowhere but that's life! The writing is still smart and the characters constantly develop and deepen. It's all part of a grand story. You have to have patience people. It's not all shoot 'em up and surprise twist every episode.

I've always been more interested in the plot lines and the characters than the mafia angle. I enjoyed last season while everyone complained about not enough attention being paid to the mafia aspect of the family.
However, the episodes so far this season have not had the arc that has been what I most appreciated about the show. I've always felt like each episode had a central theme, that was the driving force behind the plot, and crossed over both into the crime family and home family, almost like a mirror.
The past three episodes have just been all over the place, and I think they seem to be almost like chess pieces being set up for a final battle. I think it's sloppy and not innovative. One moment it's Adrianna with the FBI agent, another moment its a lawn guy, another moment it's a tired old crackhead.
They're just all over the fucking place and there's nothing really holding any of it together. I'm not going to give them enough credit to imagine that the lack of control over the plot and the direction is some type of reflection on Tony losing control over both of his families. I just think they're taking advantage of their loyal fans at this point.

I disagree. There is a lot going on in Soprano world and there is only an hour a week to tell some of it.
One moment it's Adrianna - she's a big part of the story this year. Will she run? Get whacked? Suicide? The lawn guy - a little side story. They have action going all over the place - it's nice to see some of it go down and how people get sucked in. Tired old crackhead. Junior was wandering - would you rather just have him walking down Central have in Newark? He was visiting the old neighborhood. The crackhead was just something that happened.
We have a whole season and a half to go. If it will get better or worse is a matter of personal opinion, but I think the show gets way too much negativity that "nothing happens". It's only the third episode people!

I have to agree with this...although I have to say and I am on record, as saying that last season was nothing more than a prelude to a whole lotta great things for this season. All the stories from last season were like the opening act in an opera. We get the characters (In this case we have known them for three seasons prior), and there quips and foibles. Now we establish conflict, and we are going to be at an apex in plot for the rest of this season.

What are you disagreeing with? The episodes so far have no clear direction. I'm not complaining at all about action, or plot or even what will come. I'm complaining about lazy show development.
There was a time when each episode was a story unto itself. Together they form an entire story, but individually they are strong and compelling. The season used to seem like a quilt, with each episode complemented by the others around it, but completely able to stand on its own. As they've drifted from that standard, and relied on using dramatic teasers out of context to inspire interest in next week's episode, they've garnered critism because we expect better.
I love the show, and the characters and it blows most other dramatic series out of the water. I'd like to think that they don't need to pander with huge name actors, and dribble filler in order to create a quality show.
The episodes aren't cutting it. There's something missing, and I'm just hoping that it's not because they're holding out the best for last. Each episode used to be enough.

The plotlines are just going to keep rolling along like this because we only have the rest of this season and the 10-episode final season to wrap it all up. Combine that with how this show "moves" more like real life (Things aren't wrapped up neatly in 60 minutes) and you have stuff that's going to fluctuate in its importance. You just had Adrinaa bitching about how long she's going to be ratting out to the feds...that's how this stuff goes. And it's not always going to be show-worthy...but I find it more satisfying to see it moving along realistically. Same with Junior, or Tony and Carmella's divorce. Just take it this way..."things happen when they happen." That's life.
And you need "random" sotires like the lawn guy. That clearly is setting up the conflict between Feech and Paulie, and further along, Feech and Tony, and even more interesting, Paulie and Tony. You need these "little guys."
And this last week's epsidoe seemed pretty "stand alone" to me. I'd look at it as a perfect one to bring new people in to see and get a feel for the series. I mean, you've had self-contained episodes, but pretty much since the first episode of season 2, everything has been ongoing and not very finite.

Each episode used to be enough.
Five years is a long time for a dramatic show - especially since they don't have the convenience of commercials cutting into time. They have a lot to work with. If you expect every single episode to stand on its own - for any TV series - you are going to be disappointed. Just take it as it is.
I mostly disagree with the perception of ' it's not as good as before ' and such. Just enjoy it for what it is.
Edit: As I was typing this MojoPin wrote " Combine that with how this show "moves" more like real life (Things aren't wrapped up neatly in 60 minutes) and you have stuff that's going to fluctuate in its importance." Excellent point.

For the third time. My problem isn't with the pace, or the plots. My problem lies in the construction of each episode becoming more and more sloppy and less concise and deliberate.
This series is quite possibly the best drama of all time. I won't accept the cop out that they have all season to tie things together, or that they have an entire hour to fill, and therefore they're allowed to produce a lesser quality product.
Each episode can be great and relevant independent of each other. I've always thought of it as a compilation of short stories. While it does follow a timeline, it doesn't mean that each episode can't contain its own focus, arc and theme.

Ron mentioned Jon Bon Jovi, who would make more sense, Or maybe Bruce Springstien could join Lil Stevie for some cards.

I thought tonights episode was great. We really got to see AJ being a fucked up 16 year old kid. I thought it was kinda ballsy of the principal to be hitting on carmela. I wonder if she will sleep with him to get AJ some good grades? My favorite part was the car hi-jack. Fucking awesome idea. Carmella really seems like she is at wits end, especially at the end of the episode when she was flashing back to AJ's childhood. And then when she walked into the house and was all alone. Something is going to happen with her and a break down. She needs a man in her life. I think she will ask tony to move back in or start sleeping with the principal.

I liked the way they set up and sent Robert Loggia back to prison. To me it was as if Tony was deflating Loggia's former status. He wasn't even important enough to whack. Back to the pen gravel throat.

:)
The only reson I could think of that Christopher would get knocked off would be either a major MAJOR screw up or somehow finding out that Adrianna was talking to the Feds and as a "just to be safe let's wire him out too" kind of thing. Still, it would have to take a lot for Tony to even think about killing Christopher. Wouldn't it?

Any ideas of who the other people are? It's a big deal if Tony is actually going to kill someone personally. <b>A</b> looks like Johnny Sack, but I don't see why he would be there. <b>B</b> looks like Tony B and <b>C</b> I can't figure at all. Bobby is unmistakable. The victim does look like Chrissy to me, but I thought they would save his hit for the end of the season, it's a big deal, bigger than Big Pussy I think.

if you look at the start of the preview, tony's wearing the same shirt in the scene with the gunman's hand. that kinda irrational gunfire could only come from a hothead like chris. and at the very end, it sounds like tony's talking(and loudly exhaling) to adriana.

After a lengthy search, Drea De Matteo of 'The Sopranos' fame has landed the role of Joey Tribbiani's sister on NBC's upcoming 'Friends' spinoff series, 'Joey.' The comedy centers on the relationship between Joey, who moves to Los Angeles, and his sister Gina (De Matteo), a hairdresser who lives with her son.

Here's an interesting thought - Were the 'Diamond' Dave and LT cameos, just that, gratuitous guest shots? Or is there deeper meaning to their appearances? Follow me on this.
We know that Chase has proved to be a master storyteller. Yeah, he doesn't script every episode, but he's still the man in charge. The mob stories are great and entertaining, but it's the 'between the lines' watching that makes the show the best thing on TV. I'm rambling, (How very unusual!) back to LT and Roth.
At one point in time, both men were at the top of their respective games; Lawrence Taylor was the the best, most feared, and most admired player in the NFL. He ruled football like no one else in a generation. Around about the same time, Van Halen were the biggest band in the world. David Lee Roth, their lead singer and arguably the best frontman in the history of rock, was on top of the world. He was lead singer of an ENORMOUS band; bangin' cocktail waitresses 2 at a time; and getting his post-concert, aching feet bathed in Perrier. Both men were icons. You could not get any bigger.
Fast forward a few years, coincidentally enough about the same amount of time the Mafia 'Class of '04' was in jail. David Lee's hair has disappeared and been replaced with left over costumery from The Wizard of Oz. LT is a crackhead who's breaking down on Barbara Walters (or whoever it was). Both men are trying to tighten their ever slipping grip on their one time glory. It's almost as if the men they were and the men they are now are completely different people. They have become the punchlines to their own jokes that they wrote 20 years ago. Has-beens, washed up.
Who else do we know like that? Hmmmmm, Corrado Soprano Jr? Feech LaManna? Perhaps it's a little foreshadowing of where Tony might be heading. He's lost his house, and it looks like he's struggling to maintain control of his 'house'. He has someone(Dr. Melfi) telling him , "No", something he certainly is not accustomed to hearing. Also, with the trouble brewing on the other side of the river, Adrianna's situation, and unrest among the troops, things are starting to look ever more shakey for Tony.
I've always said that every master artist, whether it be in literature, TV, or film, does not do anything by accident. There's a reason for every single person, place, thing, or event in their stories. Nothing is unimportant. Not even cameo appearances.

calling him a genius. i mean, he's REALLY GOOD. but genius
I didn't call him a genius. That word is waaay too overused in this day and age, and I try and avoid it as much as possible. In fact, the only people I ever refer to as geniuses are myself and Tesla (the band, not the mad scientist).
What I said about the appearances of Roth and LT, and what they mean to the story is really only outstanding because they're on a TV show. Using characters, settings, and events symbolically is basic storytelling. Using them well is really good storytelling. That's what David Chase does. He's a really good storyteller, and The Sopranos is a really good, magnificently written, magnificently acted story.
If The Sopranos was a book, the metaphors wouldn't be that remarkable. It's merely the fact that the majority of the rest of TV programming is an intellectually barren wasteland that makes this show such a standout.

This week was Ok.....AJ is becoming a total fuck. Next week looks good already.....it looks like Adrianna and Christopher may both be leaving us. Who's Tony pointing that gun at????.....It looks like Christopher......can't wait till next Sunday night
My message board psychic is that the person getting shot is nobody that we know and/or care about. It probably has nothing to do with Christopher or Adrianna. I bet its that guy that's also snitching for the Feds, which might be why they want to wire Adrianna all of a sudden.
The promos never turn out to be what you think. Two weeks ago I thought Tony was going to catch Adrianna with the Feds or at least know that the Feds are using people.
Nothing is unimportant. Not even cameo appearances.
What about the product placements? Are they important also? I don't buy that the cameo appearances are all that important. Sometimes things are exactly as they seem --- meaningless.
"Excuse me, excuse me I believe you have my stapler"
PS. What was up with David Lee Roth's hair? What was the meaning of that? Careful what hair plugs you get???

If Tony's doing the shooting it must be important.

I thought one of the things about this show was that it was true to life, some things don't go anywhere, some story lines just end without resolution, like real life.
I'm 100% sure David Lee Roth doesn't mean anything important to the plot of the show. Perhaps David Case is a big Van Halen fan or something.

Well, to be realistic, it wasn't shown as a shooting, it was shown as Tony holding a gun to someone's head. It could be a threat.

I'm 100% sure David Lee Roth doesn't mean anything important to the plot of the show
You're right. I mispoke. DLR and LT are of little importance to the plot, meaning their presence or non presence doesn't change the track of Tony's life or the life of the 2 Soprano families as we see them. I should have said, "nothing is without purpose".
I'm assuming that the reason the show is so beloved and respected is that people understand that it is obviously about more than the trials and tribulations, adventures and misadventures of a New Jersey mob boss and his 2 families. The brilliance of the show is the metaphor of the mafia family and the 'American' family.
Going from that premise, we watch with the implicit understanding that what see means more than what we see. Part of the enjoyment of the show, a large part of it for me anyway, is in the analysis. Just like a great novel, greater understanding of the subtext means greater enjoyment of the show.
Why would David Chase put 2 so obviously out of place people smack dab in the middle of an episode? Their presence is glaring. They couldn't have stood out more if they'd been wearing tutus and blowing air horns. They were put there for us to see, and wonder why. All the reasons I said in my first post about this will tell you why, at least by my reasoning. It was effective too; 3 days later and we're still talking about them. Sure, maybe David Chase is a Giants and Van Halen fan. If this was a normal TV show I might agree with you, but I prefer to give him more credit than that.
As far as the product placements go, they are extremely important. They help keep the show on the air. Sometimes a little artistic integrity has to be sacrificed for the greater whole.

I think I have to lean toward dream sequence as well.... maybe Ade thinks she's been found out, and dreams that Chrissy gets whacked over it.
Did anyone else notice how they slipped in clues that AJ might get involved with the business? Particularly when Carmela almost says exactly that to the college counselor guy.... and of course, he lives with Tony now.

After finally getting to watch it last night since I missed it on Sunday, I gotta say I loved this past show. One of my favorite lines was when Robert Loggia walks in to see Tony and says "should I kiss your ring" and Tony says "How about the ring in the middle of my ass!"
As far as the image above is concerned when I first saw it my impression was that the guy labled "A" in the picture was Paulie. I still think that's him.
As far as Christopher is concerned, I've had a feeling that he's going to get wacked for some time, especially since Adriana broke down the relationship he has with Tony to the Fed, I sort've thought that was a tip off to the viewer that he is a major part of the focus of this season that will come into play. Especially since they point out he really isn't truly blood, he's Carmela's cousin. Remember Christopher also fucked up in that meeting with Johnny Sac, the one where Tony told him not to say anything, and yet he kept opening his mouth. Then last night when Silvio was telling him about what went down with the Robert Loggia character he goes "and Christopher said he approves", Tony's reaction was like "who the fuck cares what Christopher thinks." To me they're all subtle things and they can either mean something, or not. I was thinking if it isn't Christopher that maybe it was his partner who helped him unload the TV's at Robert Loggia's.
My wildcard pick of who that is in the picture is that perhaps it's Steve Buschemi.

I believe she is Carmine's sons wife. My guess is her character will be extremely short lived. I read that interview and I couldn't believe how much information she was giving out, usually everything is very hush hush, usually when I see people like this talk, it's because they have bit parts and will last 1 or 2 episodes. She'll either get wacked, or go away when Carmine's kid gets killed.

My wildcard pick of who that is in the picture is that perhaps it's Steve Buschemi.
I think the guy labeled as 'A' is actually Paulie Walnuts. And I think the mystery man is actually Phil Leotardo played by Frank Vincent. I think the previews did a nice job making everyone think that Christopher was going to get whacked, but it actually might be one of Johnny Sacs gang. And it also isnt looking too good for the "Class of 2004", thus far this season.

After season 4, we really should fuckin know better, shouldn't we? Anything good in the preview is TWISTED to look like something good, which it never is.
This week's preview looked good too. They won't follow through.

I don't care if Christopher didn't get whacked, the episode still kicked ass. The scene where Tony had a gun pointed to Chris' head was so tense, nice job. I thought for sure that Adriana would have slipped and told Tony about the FBI in the hospital.

Great episode - I was certain either Adrianna and/or Christopher were going to get wacked this week. So damn intense, and lots of great fall-out potential. Man...The whole flirtation with Tony... Carm agreeing at the end to join them for dinner... the randomness of the accident... Chris going off on Adrianna... Cousin Tony... Pauly egging Tony on to blow Chris away! SHIT! Classic stuff.
I now think they are going to wait until their wedding before anything happens to either of them - I can see everything moving towards that.

It was kinda slow, but its in the slow points you can find the best subtlties.
Buscemi flipping at the end was trademark awesome.
My lines of the night came from Pauli when he walks in on fat dude quizzing Buscemi w/ flashcards.
"Hey, where's my tupperware"
and after Buscemi talks about the Korean laundry boss...Pauli said something to the effect of "remember what they did in Pearl Harbor"
Basically, this show can do no wrong w/ me.
I love Steve Buscemi in it. I keep getting the feeling we're gonna see what he's really capable of, mob-wise.

They were all very nice to work with. My favorites were Steve Buscemi and Peter Bogdanovich (the director)...Once he saw my name on the roster before they taped he got very excited because he is Serbian, too. When Steve heard, he kept asking me all these questions about how it is like in my country and if I was fluent. All the other girls we pretty much talking to the rest of the cast. After that, I sat on a roll of carpet, smoked a cigarette and waited until they need to start taping again. I wasn't much a talker with the girls....we didn't have much in common.
After we were done, the director kissed and hugged me goodbye. He was very touched with the little Serbian convo we had going....it was very cute.
That's all.

of course they could, hell, they could get a better double for free. But they would want to make it look realistic. Remember that stunt butt for Dr Melfi? that was like a 20 year old doubling for a 50+ year old Loranne Bracco, looked so out of place (but that was in her fantasy so I let it slide)

Whats up with Tony? He goes from trying to bang a hot 30 year old to a 70 year old grandma. He had some weird facination with her. that epsisode was really boring.
The only good story was christopher and the writer. It was interesting to see the duality of someone in the mafia. In one breath, he is caring and concerned for his friend who has a substance abuse problem. Then the next thing he does is beat his ass for the money he owes him, which he had to realize would possibly send him off the wagon.

I didn't get the playback the Friday show yet, but I know Joe Pistone was scheduled to be on the show.
I love the movie Donnie Brasco. I picked it up Thursday at Best Buy along with Kill Bill Vol.1. Donnie Brasco is selling for $9.99 which is the cheapest I've seen it.
-------
As for last nights episode. I liked it in some ways because it brings back the reason he's seeing Melfi in the first place. Whether he knows it or not. All the things he saw, experienced and was involved in as a kid affect him. He has this initial emotional attachment with the mistress his father was seeing and the woman must've always intrigued Tony so this was his way to get to know her. It was pretty interesting. Probably the most interesting aspect of the show.
The other interesting part was the whole sequence of events with Christopher and the Tim Daly character. It was pretty interesting to show how friendships in that world change when money gets involved. On one hand Tim Daly owes Christopher and he wants his money, but on the other he's his friend. I liked it more the first time they did that though with Tony and his friend with the sporting goods store Robert Patrick (T-1000).
Overall it was an okay show. Not nearly as strong as the first few shows of this season though.

Its going to be interesting to see the sequence of Tony and Carmela going at each other after having sex on tonight's episode. The preview for next week showed her getting lawyers involved about money.
Tony B doing the hit is going to make Tony really pissed. Hopefully a war is on the rise.

How many episodes are we into this? 6? 7? I just have this gut feeling that once everything really starts to be looking up and about to have "all hell break loose" it will be some kind of major cliffhanger until next season.
This season has been quite enjoyable and even though last weeks episode threw me a bit, reading some of the other feedback makes it make sense. I kind of thought about there being some kind of backstory on Tony seeing Dr. Melfi but I would have thought there woul dhave been some other story developments. Last week just seemed to drag a bit. I will give it the benifit of the doubt at the "slow one" so far.
This week was really good. Especially Tony B taking care of Joey (?) and his little woman for good measure. Any stills of them both with the blood spatter over them would be appreciated.

I thought in that preview that Carmela was talking to one of the FBI guys. Although, it was probably just good editing. Those previews show basically nothing.
Two funny parts last night were Tony B. taking video of Tony's stomach and Carmela's ass. And Tony B. getting his foot run over after the shooting (what an idiot).

It is really geting to the point where I wonder if I should watch anymore. There was some really good story progression this year up until a few weeks back. These are good drama episodes like I expect on CBS or whatnot. I really want something I can talk about at the "watercooler" and something that will really blow me away. Not like Vito blowing me away but really making me go WOW! I just think that there has been enough backstory and understanding upon all that Tony has gone through and what has gone on with his mental state. It's cool that he is still seeing Dr. Melfi and I have come to expect that but there are spots where I think things are just getting rehashed and a bit dull. What do I care about Meadows boyfriend getting work at the construction site? What was the deal with Adrianna calling the FBI woman and then it just ends? I was hoping for some continuity there. Just seems like storys are building and then they just die.
Although it was a nice touch to have the scene at the end with Carmella looking at Tony while Meadow is speaking of engagement and how Carmella seeming to think "I hope she doesn't fall into what I did" but still, let's keep up with the "mob" stuff before the Sopranos is solely responsible for killing the entire mob genre.
Where is the Tony who takes Meadow to look at colleges and just happens to conveinently kill a guy while on the trip? I want more blood, gunfire, death, violence and just outright "mob" play. Maybe I just need to go back and watch The Godfather and Goodfellas again. Who knows? Am I expecting too much or is this what The Sopranos has become?
I don't know if I can really deal with a cliffhanger that I have to wait for a year to complete.

Waffle is right to some degree. While The Sopranos is still a fantastic show, the mafia content has slowly declined since the first season. Seasons 1-3 had a lot of mafia content, but starting with Season 4 and now 5 its more about Tony and his family.
It is disapointing, but saying its going to kill the mob genre is way too far.

Last season seemed MUCH more "mobbed-up" than this season or the third one, mainly because of all the shit with Ralphie going down.
I like how it alternates. And besides, haven't like four or five people already been killed this season? Do you need more of that, or do you just want the main characters getting their hands dirty? Look at this way...you got Tony killing two, even just one guy a season...how often can a guy as high-profile as him do that on and on without ever getting caught? It would get ridiculous after a while.
And I don't get people complaining about the FBI thing. It's like they wanted it wrapped up in three episodes. How would THAT have been realisitc?

Another great episode. This show continues to amaze me. Looks like the shit is really gonna hit the fan with NY next week, and I got a feeling Tony Uncle Al is about to make a play for some kind of power.
Actually, you know what? I can't even tell if an episode is good or bad anymore. I'm just so in awe of James Gandolfini and Edie Falco that I could pretty much watch them reading from the phone book across the dinner table from each other for an hour and it would be great. I really don't think there's ever been better acting, so consistently, in any series ever.

As soon as Finn started walking off that beach, I thought for sure the girl was going to be in the office & he was going to bang her. Wow, what a swerve.
And what a timid sissy this kid is...he actually got physically ill at the site of violence. Yeah, he's gonna fit real nice in the Soprano family. No way he makes it to the alter with Meadow. He probably won't make it to next season.
Not much product placement this week
They even seemed to go out of their way NOT to say what Christopher was looking for when he went looking for a snack. Then he takes the frozen Snickers out of the freezer & holds it in the palm of his hand, covering the print on the wrapper. I thought that was odd.

The whole bj scene was a shocker but thanks to the previews I think we all know where that security guard is headed to.
Paulie Walnuts is still stealing scenes. When he found out Finn was Meadow's boy and gives him the 'ol "Heeeeeeyyyyy! There he is!" after he shit all over him. Great stuff.
