my main problem with vice city was that it was too much for the ps2 to handle. things wouldnt load quickly enough, i would crash into buildings that wouldnt load until after i crashed, i didnt see them coming. on the xbox version that wasnt a problem, because xbox is a more powerful machine. if they put more stuff into this game, i just cant believe that the ps2 can handle it.

my game takes a long time on the initial load but never really fucks up when your playing. and i played it on xbox the other day, couldnt tell a difference except its 15000 TIMES HARDER TO USE THAT DUMBASS CONTROLLER

GTA 1 for PC had 3 levels, liberty (ny area), vice (miami), and san andreas (southern California).

yea but its an easier game to play.
i notice on some of the older games that have more scratches it skips but never used to, it may be your machine has problems with the game size cause of the 2 TVs there, its on all damn damn cause you guys put towels up to keep light out, and oh yea, bong resin.

Good point Phix. Vice City was too much for PS2 to handle, it was also rushed. I'd rather have Rockstar delay San Andreas rather than release the game with bugs like Vice City. It wasn't the machine, about 1/2 of all Vice City's were buggy.

I'm not saying that the new engine can't handle better graphics because thats not true. MGS2 is still one of the best looking games on any system and MGS3 looks even better. If Rockstar knows how to push PS2, San Andreas can look MUCH better.

mgs doesnt have to render nearly as much graphics as gta. you're comparing a small area vs a small city. mgs has snake and a few enemies on screen. gta has to deal with you, pedestrians, and cars. i'm sure by this 3rd installment of the series on the ps2, rockstar's gonna go as far as they can. besides, the best version will arrive on the pc the following spring.

And I had no visual problems with GTA:VC. The only prob I had with the entire game was hitting the save bug in the ice cream shoppe and had to start my entire fucking game over again because my save game was corrupted.

that was my roommates ps2. i keep mine at home cuz it makes no sense to have 2 ps2s up there. and just cuz we hate sunlight doenst mean we shouldnt get to enjoy solid gameplay put out by rockstar! and bogn water was never spillt on the ps2, my gamecube is a different story though.

Finally some confirmation as to what is going to be on this game...
These have been confirmed by either Rockstar or GameInformer-

-It will have a California Gang theme
-The game will use a Dual-Layer DVD because Rockstar have already filled up a full DVD disk!
-Heres the main character, the one you will be able to control:

The 3 cities in the game will be LA, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. They will be called Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas in the game.
The entire game will be about Four to Six times bigger than Vice City.
There will be a lot more buildings with open interiors
The only loading times in the game will be a short pause when you enter buildings
The graphics engine has been tweaked. Smog will be present in LA, and real-time reflections on cars, windows, and mirrors, as well as new techniques like radial lighting, which allows for more realistic shadowing, and soft-shadow lighting for interior levels will be present.
In the Las Venturas city, you will be able to buy and build a casino and then run it.
You can then gamble your money in the casino.
My favorite- You need to eat to retain your stamina. If you eat too much fast food, you become fat and pedestrians mock you for being fat. You also run slower. To remedy this, you can go to a gym to exercise.
You can now rob homes. The robberies will require skill and planning, however.
You can recruit gang members and use them to do four person drive-by's.
Being a Gang Member only makes up about 15% of the total game.
Carl Johnson can visit The Barber and get his hair cut into numerous different styles which the player can decide. Pedestrians and characters will make remarks on your hair, depending if it looks cool or un-cool.
Swimming is now a part of the game.
If you drive a vehicle into the water, you have two choices, climb out of the window and swim to shore, or stay in the car and sink, where you will have a certain amount of underwater stamina.
There will be In-Breds and Degenerates in the Countryside and some missions will reflect the contrast between the towny and the country people.
There are now many more ways to complete missions. You could run straight in shooting, or sneak through the shadows and pick off the enemies one by one.
When the player only has one wanted star, hiding in the shadows should be enough to throw police off your trail.
Confirmed weapons- [Chrome Shotgun], [12 Gauge Shotgun], [Uzi 9mm], [Colt. 45], [Ingram-Mac 10].
Vehicles-
There will be [Pimped Out Lowriders], and 90's versions of some GTA3 / VC cars will return.
There will be [Bicycles].
There are [Police Motorbikes] and they will be used by the cops.
AI- Enemy / pedestrian AI will be greatly revamped and they will think more logically. You can't beat someone to death in broad daylight and not have people notice and react.
Your enemies will be smarter, which will make robbing houses take a lot of skill.

Only radio station confirmed thus far is a rap station, but there will be a lot more as always.

The game sounds incredible so far. It sounds like Rockstar is in their labs trying to create the perfect game...

One mission involves you meeting up with your old friend Ryder, who is a loose cannon and is very passionate about the Orange Grove Families. The owner of a pizza store has erased the OGF tag from his walls, and Ryder wants you to join him in teaching the owner a lesson. You hop in a pickup and head to the pizzeria. Once you arrive but before you enter the pizzeria, you will be given the opportunity to give CJ a new haircut.

This is an example of many side tasks available during missions. Rockstar really wants to blur the line between on a mission and off a mission so you will see this a lot. You hop in the barber's chair and he cuts your hair while you watch. You receive a new haircut which you can see in the mirror, and you choose to accept it or get a new style. Once you leave the barber Ryder will make a comment about your new hairstyle depending on what you chose. Now in the extremely detailed pizzeria you have even more choices. There are three different sized meals with prices based on size. You order the largest meal to distract the pizza boy for Ryder. But Ryder cannot be calmed and to his surprise as he becomes more irate, the pizza boy fires off a 12-gauge shotgun. You and Ryder run out to the pickup and drive back home.

Yet another mission has you driving a four person drive-by as your gang wants to hit the local gang The Ballas. As your roll by The Ballas, Sweet, Smoke, and Ryder all take aim and open fire. Your job is to move the car back and forth to dodge the returning fire. The four person drive by is amazingly real. As you drive by the three gang members adjust their aims. When you pass The Ballas, your guys will lean out the windows backwards and one will get up through the roof. After taking out this group, you go after another group of Balla members. But the cops have started chasing and you must take a detour into a Pay `n' Spray. The mudded car actually becomes cleaned off, the cops stop chasing, and you go home. The Orange Grove Families are back in business, but every time you enter Balla territory, be ready for hostile activity.

The mission Reuniting the Families is about the heads of all the local gangs sitting down to talk and avoid a war. When you arrive at the hotel which is the meeting place, Sweet is the OGF representative. Suddenly a police chopper appears over the car park and cops start pouring out with guns blazing. The other members of the OGF run for their own safety, and leave you alone in the hotel to save Sweet yourself. As you march through the hotel with your shotgun you will see police flowing in from all directions and off balconies with their semi-automatics lit up. A nice shot from your shotgun will kill a cop, and the more you kill, the better your accuracy becomes (as displayed in a percentage in the top left). You can also strafe for cover now. Eventually you find a dying gangster who points you to Sweet.
The two of you escape to Smoke driving a car, who takes down the helicopter with a shotgun then speeds off. Following this is an intense car chase with Smoke driving and you shooting police cars in first person view. You can align the crosshair on the speeding cars and shoot out the tires to take them out. Suddenly a cop jumps right onto the back of the car, and you are forced to shoot him at point blank. Then another one leaps onto the front. Smoke turns down an alley and finds another helicopter in the way, with its rotors pointing at the ground. Smoke speeds up, then at the last second both of you bail

Yes I bought Nintendo with Donkey Kong and Duck Hunt when it first came out. Know what the funny thing is? The price. It first retailed at $249; about exactly what, before the price war this year, it would cost you to get a PS2 [it was $199 alone for quite a while I think] and a GTA type game for Fitty Bucks.

I had GTA3 for the computer when it first came out, and later I bought it for GTA3, both were equally awesome. I'm partial to the keyboard though just cause of the layout. The only trouble is that you need a good video card, it doesn't have to be anything spectcular, just enough to run it, and it would cost less then buying a ps2 and the game.

You can hear samples from all the radio stations too.

Radio Stations include a soul station, hip hop station, a funk station, classic rock station, reggae station, top 40 station, modern rock station, country station, a German underground station, and of course a talk station.

I don't get it. Before adding everything I hope they fixed everything that made Vice City a bitch to play. Like the camera and the controls. I hated running then suddenly my character crouched because the control is also a pointless button. Plus, I'd like to see the animation, because the cutscenes in VC looked like N64 shit.

The best thing about the series has been the radio. It's funny as hell. The graphics look bettter, and they say there are no more loading times when you're travelling from one place to another, but I can't imagine what the initial load time will be like. And how will this affect performance? Will there be a lot of slowdown, will it be choppy?

Personally I didnt like Vice City as much as I did GTA3. Still, its was a really good game. Obviously, like with every game, there were some glitches, but overall I think it was a great game. Cant wait to get San Andreas.

Of course I played it, I wouldn't pay 15 bucks for anything just to set it aside (I was too poor to afford it when it first came out). But it drove me nuts. I hated the camera and the controls. I hated that if I walked off a curb I'd lose 1 point of life. It's nice you can swim in the new GTA because I hated that you couldn't swim. The novelty of the game wears off after a while, the missions get redundant and frustrating, but I know that no one agrees with me.

I really wanted to like it, I have nothing against the "offensive" material. It's the actual functionality of the game that bugs me.

Rockstar Games turns on the radio; GTA soundtrack details emerge


Rockstar updates official Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas site with info on the game's soundtrack.

Rockstar Games updated the official Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas site with information on the ten radio stations in the game, as well as a teaser on the music set to be included. The Web site offers a car stereo interface that features clickable buttons that correspond to each station. Clicking the button will call up information on the station such as DJ and its format, and stream a short audio clip that includes the DJ's voice and a snippet of music.



The first station is Master Sounds, a classics station, helmed by Johnny "The Love Giant" Parkinson, that features a clip of "The Payback" from soul legend James Brown.

The second station is Playback, a hip hop station led by Forth Right MC which plays "Children's Story" by Slick Rick. Bounce FM, whose playlist draws on all manner of funk, chosen by DJ The Funkitpus, is the third station. "Funky Worm" from the Ohio Players serves as clip for the station.

The fourth station is K-DST, "The Dust," whose DJ, Tommy "The Nightmare" Smith, spins classic rock such as Eddie Money's "Two Tickets to Paradise."

The fifth station, K-Jah Radio West, plays dancehall, raga, reggae, and dub tunes spun by two DJs, Marshall Peter & Johnny Lawton. "Chase the Devil" by Max Romeo & The Upsetters is the sample tune.

CSR, the sixth station, favors new jack swing and modern soul chosen by Philip "PM" Michaels. Bel Biv Devoe's "Poison" is the station's sample track. Got a 9.9 from IGN.

I went to EB Games at 7 and there must have been 100 people there. The lines were crazy. By the time I left another 50 or so must have shown up. Took me about an hour to get a copy.

I only played for an hour but its good, damn good. Its like "Boyz 'n the Hood" the game.

Well I played a bit of it last night and all I have to say is HOLY SHIT!!!!! The graphics are better than Vice City, the music fucking kicks ass, all old school gansta rap Like Snoop EZ-E, Dr. Dre Snoop ECT. The missions are harder though than Vice City. I cant seem to find many cheats that work for the game. Some of the ones I got work most of them dont, I give it a month or so for them to find the right cheats.

The graphics are fine. It loads on the fly to avoid that. PC version should be out some time next year.

So far it seems much easier than VC but then I've only done about 10 missions so far. I spent a while just running around and swimming and exploring and crap.

One problem I had was at one of those two people rampage things. Everytime I finished it and it went back to the main game, I'd reappear right on the rampage icon and go right back into it. Smashing the buttons around after the rampage got me out of that loop but it took about ten tries (I did amass a huge amount of cash from the rampage though. It's nice that unlike in VC you can collect the cash and stuff during the rampage).

My wife surprised me when I picked her up the train station. She picked up a copy in Penn Station. =)

So far it seems that although I thought I was tired of the GTA formula having gone through both Liberty and Vice City, I was wrong. I really dig this game "in a big big way".

I've only been on it for a couple hour and just did the pimping missions. Come to think of it, it wasn't too hard to get through all 10 of them in a row. But that might because the driving mechanics aren't too changed so if you were good in the previous games you will be good in this one.

One thing I noticed right away is how better the cars feel. They seem to drive more realistically now. You can "feel" the suspension travel going over curbs and cutting corners and the tire model seems to be much much better as well.

So far GTA SA rocks.

Not only that, they are more violent than some of the characters. They shoot at you when your wanted level goes up. Not only cops shoot, but other gange members will shoot at you just for being in thier turf.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the 2 Player Mode!!! (you can access it after you've saved the girl from the burning building that ironically you set on fire)
You cant do too much together except explore the city but i find it fun as hell and i wish they would incorporate that into some mission. I have a feeling they through that in this game to give a preview of what they are planning for the next one- maybe a full multiplayer game.

My favorite mission is definitly the one where you go with big smoke into that building full of russian mafia guys and you have to shoot your way through. then you get on that bike and run from the russians who are in cars and on bike shooting at you. such a great dramatic and action packed sequence.
but you guys are right that its really not that hard so far.
New stuff is popping up all the time. extremely addictive and starting to interfere with school work! love this game!

Yeah you can save between missions, but you can't save during missions, and when you've got a multi-tiered difficult mission with a lot of cutscenes, that's a pain in the ass. And the control is the same, so if you push down too hard on the stick while running from cops, you're a sitting duck because you're stupid character is squatting.

Yeah, I'm on the "Jizzy B" mission right now and it has I think 4 parts, and of course the last one is the longest/hardest part. If you could save the thing midway through, it would be so much easier.

Does anyone know why sometimes you can push the D-pad to the right and they bring you right to the mission instead of having to drive around for like 10 minutes?

see if you played vice city alot, you should have no trouble with this game, except knowing where to go, but even that gets easy after you learn the few main roads on all the islands

the only problem i have is keeping muscle off. i now have full muscle and stamina, so i cant really burn anything and anytime i starve the guy to make him a little smaller, his muscle comes right back. he isnt as fast as he used to be.

and everyone go to Ammunation and buy tec-9's, you can use 2 at once and light people up like fire

Ugh, I'm done.

I was having a hell of a time beating the race with Catalina and her boyfriend. Took me nearly 2 hours because it was so horribly designed. Then, as if it was a joke the game froze and an error came up saying "Error reading the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas disc" it went away and is now permanently stuck on the map screen. This is unexcusable after how buggy Vice City was.

Beyond that, its the worst of the PS2 GTAs. Missions suck and the world may be huge, but it sucks.

Rockstar, you stink.

San Andreas is the best one Yet. As far as the gameplay goes. The missions are better, and well thought out and fun. They are harder and better than all the other ones and the cities are more ineractive than ever before.

I walked into one of the Mall stores and on all the monitors [wow I called them TV's once] what looked like a Movie Trailer for GTA:SA was playing continually.

I was like: this is visual Heroin. I have a PS2 collecting dust; I'm afriad to put in the fucking Jeopardy for fear i'll be staring at the screen 15 hours a day, which is weird coz some days I stare at *this* screen 15 hours a day.

Its looks just too fucking cool. I sucked at GTA, and dont need to suck at this one, but i can see why its so friggin popular.

Am I wrong hearing a statistic that shit I forget the demographic, but they spend more on videogaming then purchases for CDs, DVDs, Movie Tix, and a few other things, combined.

Im also wondering where VR will go with this. Maybe people like the Monitor, but you ever play a VR game with good VR system, meaning its gotta be fast as fuck to process your random head moving around checking things out, but that would make for a POV game unlike any other. Wearing goggles glasses contacts whatever it will be, and theres the game, and you click your click, and your Point Of View *is* your eyes.

The zero missions are absolutely horrible, particularly the one where you have to use the remote controlled plane to kill the couriers. You have to do it a couple of times and you get a little better each time.

So I'm in Las Venturas and I've turned my guy from a hardcore street thug into a degenerate gambler. I spend hours in the Horse Racing Place and the casinos. I got like 6 million bucks.

After doing the Flight School missions, the Zero mission is a little easier. I ran out of fuel 2 or 3 times on the way back to the building after killing the 5 guys and that is tremendously frustrating. It also pissed me off that the guys shooting at you always hit in that mission.

i still havent beat it, but ive figured out how to have unimaginable style while gettin through about 3 guys. my biggest problem is i start to get outta whack doin some crazy avoidance stunt and land on the ground without enough room to get back in the air

i dont know how much you need the zero missions though. im all the way through flight school and all schools and on to the missions at teh 4 dragons, so unless it sends me back to zero alot later, i dont think i need them

anything. You need somewhat knowledge of the roads, but how can you
miss a pink or yellow square or triangle on the map.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>oh
and btw, for any that didnt figure it out and isnt blind, when the dots
pop up, if they come up as little triangles instead of squares, it
means they are currently on a different elevation. so if you are right
on a spot but the thing isnt there, its above or below you&nbsp;</p>

you have to go isnt close enough that its in that little circle, it
wont show up. its not that you cant see it, its just not there, cause
its too far away. pause it, find the dot on the big map, and then head
in that direction. once you are in range, the dots pop up<br />
