I dont know why all these Met fans complain day after day about how pissed they are over the team this year. Your fat 1st baseman is gone and so is his salary, for thats a +. Your shitty 2nd baseman is gone and Reyes is + #2. You got Kaz at ss which is + #3. 3rd base is the same i think, but he was a bright spot last year and should improve, + #4. Your Catcher should play 1st once in awhile, making the defense there better at those times and his offensive number may go up because of it, or maybe he just wont be injured all season again, + #5. Your center fielder is better by miles, + #6. Floyd might not get hurt and Garcia is GOOD. + #7.

You complain about not spending money on Guerrero, in the meantime last season you all talked about getting rid of the high priced players that suck on your team. And THIS guy has a known possible carear ending injury in his spine. I'm sure he'll be fine, but with your teams shitty history of signing "sure thing" free agents, I'd have stayed away too.

I do think the team will be better. It just would have been nice if they did a little more.
Granted, the season has not started yet, so we shall see.
Being a realistic fan, I am well aware that they will not be in the playoffs. If they can just go 81-81, I'll be happy.

Oh, rumor on WFAN is that Mets MAY trade Reyes for Soriano.
Yes, Alfonso is a better overall player, but I would like to keep Jose. He's only 20 and deserves a shot! He'll be forgotten in Texas.

Take it easy Clarky

Why are they retarded? Maybe Reyes is a better player and has more of a future. Soriano is a lot older.

the only problem is Mets fans say this before the start of every season. 'Oh man, this looks to be the year. Piazza will come out of the closet, hit 60 home runs, and we're gonna be awesome!'. Yet a quarter of the way through the season you will all be ready to throw in the towel on baseball season. it's pathetic. you guys need better players, bottom line.

reyes will never come close to anything soriano has already done. This was a no brainer just like signing guerrero was.

Agreed, if Reyes was sooooo good, why was he kicked off short for a nip?

I love it...nothing ever goes as planned and this year no one is expecting anything out of the mets...there is a lot less pressure and the NL east is weaker...I can see them still having an outside chance in September...at least play ONE meaningful game in September, please?

We are not going to trade Reyes because if/when we ever win we can say....we have homegrown players.

Reyes will NEVER match up to Soriano offensively. There is no chance. And for everyone going on about Reyes being twenty. The fact is up until about a week ago Yankees fans thought Soriano was two years younger than he is. Half these players just flat out make up a nice pretty number off the top of their heads. Contreras says he's thirty four and the guy looks down right haggard.

The New York Mets prokected strarting line up and rotation according to NYmets.com-

Projected Starting Lineup
SS Kaz Matsui
2B Jose Reyes
LF Cliff Floyd
C Mike Piazza
CF Mike Cameron
1B Jason Phillips
3B Ty Wigginton
RF Karim Garcia/Shane Spencer
Pitcher

Projected Rotation
1. Tom Glavine
2. Al Leiter
3. Steve Trachsel
4. Jae Weong Seo
5. To be determined

Bullpen
LH setup man: Mike Stanton
RH setup man: David Weathers
Closer: Braden Looper

I must say, its not horrible at all, but its only good enough to land them around 3rd place, maybe, MAYBE 2nd if the Braves really suck which I doubt...

The book is out on Soriano...unless he can curb his strikeouts his value isn't tremendous...it is good but not THAT good...I know Soriano is making about 5 million a year right now...what is Reyes making?

While you do have a point about Soriano's strikouts, the guy is averaging a 35 35 year for the last two years. That is pretty tremendous for a second baseman. I really can't see Reyes doing that, I just can't. As far as Reyes' salary, he's making league minimum for the next two years I believe.

point out his strikeouts. cameron strikes out more than sori and you werent bitching. shit sosa strikes out around 140 a year, dont tell me youd say no to him.

that being said, i go either way on the deal. keep reyes, he is real good and cheap, get sori, he is relatively cheap for what he produces, it can go either way.

and yes, wadd, ill give you this one. they are a much improved team, so they really shouldnt be bitching when thats all they did the last 2 years. plus your hitting a weak braves team, a marlins team that is good, but not as, and a philly team that i think is way over rated. dont rule out the mets right now, and dont be so down on them

I can certainly see the mets making a run but it all depends on how their pitching makes out this season. If Glavine can rebound and Leiter and Erickson have decent seasons they could go a long way with a much weaker braves due to free agency and a division that overall remains totally open to anyone.

Guys, as a lifelong Mets fan I need to tell you guys that 2005 is our year!

2004 will be almost as bad as 2003. Until we trade Piazza straight up for Martinez, Schilling, Johnson, or Zito we're not going to get much better this year.

Oh, and Piazza is gay, but that don't make him a bad person. He's still going to the hall.

The only way those trades are gonna go through is if one of those players loses both his arms in a freak accident and is forced to pitch with his tongue.

wadd for a dirty stinking yankee fan you are correct. i mean i would prefer snatching up ordonez and a solid pitcher next season over a guy with a bad back this season. and we all know that once he put on the blue and orange his back would be a serious problem. we have improved defense and maybe a team that is fun to watch. i mena the young guys lost their hearts out most of last season and they were still fun to watch. now throw in some amazing defensive plays and it will be even more fun.
