Did any of you watch this documentary...OMG is it great...it's this guy trying to figure out what is wrong with our country when it comes to guns...why do we have more gun deaths than anyone else in the world...it also talks about the NRA and the Columbine massacre and South Park and Marilyn Manson and it shows us that we as a nation need to be afraid of something that all the media does is serve fear...and it talks about how white America fears African Americans and really raises a lot of questions about we as a nation...definitely a must watch
I thought it was great when I first saw it too, then I found out how much of it was garbage, and then I just felt used.

It's filled with erroneous facts, fallacies, and outright lies.
As is detailed here. (http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html)
Moore really did cease to have any sort of credibility a long time ago, but hey, he apparently duped a lot of people with that thing - enough to get him an Oscar.
Michael Moore = the liberal equivalent of Sean Hannity.

I'm not a racist, but African Americans are far more likely to commit crimes than white people. It's an economic issue, not a skin color issue. Somehow, Moore blamed Cops for black people committing crimes... go figure. (By the way, isn't Cops better known for white trash than it is for black people? Why isn't Moore protesting Cops's negative stereotyping of the South?)
That spoonfeeding Q & A with Marilyn Manson really was world class! And don't blame the crack-head mother for her son shooting a classmate, blame Dick Clark for employing her!
Yeah, Bowling for Columbine was a great fucking movie, if all you need is a film that reinforces your beliefs with a disregard for the truth.

I don't understand why anyone thinks they need a gun. My dad is a lifetime member of the NRA and likes to shoot guns, but he keeps them locked up in a safe and only shoots them at the range. Why can't we just do something like that? Do we really need guns in our homes?

There's opinion, which you may not agree with, and there's truth. I'm guessing that you have a problem with the former when it comes to Michael Moore.

So after burning my Michael Moore books and having a hard time believing those on the right, who is right and who is wrong? Who is going to let me know what exactly is going on in this country becasue I certainly do not trust the poiliticians or anyone for that matter running the government. This is also why I kind of stopped paying attention to the news cause no one tells the truth anymore and I just watch sports. Who is right and who is wrong? Who will give the the facts and who will give me the facts disguised as fiction?

"The Lockheed factory in Littleton, Colorado, has nothing to do with weapons of mass destruction!"The charge was never that the Littleton plant has nothing to do with WMDs, it was that the specific plant makes rockets that launch satellites. I'm sure that in some very indirect ways, the Littleton plant has contributed to missiles in the last 30 years, but the fact remains that at the time of Columbine, they were not building missiles. The charge by Moore is that the culture has been "militarized" and that was the cause of Columbine. If supporting that charge means misrepresenting the facts, then so be it.
Um, yeah, that's right! I made it up! Heston never went there! He never said those things!Sort of. It was insensitive of Heston to go to Denver, but he did have the right to. Just like Moore has the right to do things which are in poor taste, as he routinely does. What Moore dodges is that he snuck in footage of probably the most damning statement made by Heston, "From my cold dead hands!" That statement was made 900 miles away. Conveniently, Moore doesn't include that in his rebuttal.
As for the scene in the bank, the process actually lasted an hour and a half. In addition, the guns offered by the bank are normally stored in a vault 4 hours away, but Moore walked out with the gun because the meeting had been arranged 2 months in advance.

There are opinions I disagree with, but still appreciate and enjoy the value of their challenging of my beliefs. Every day I read al-Jazeera, I listen to NPR, and I check other political forums to see what the "other side" is saying. This isn't about opinions, this is about lies.
The NRA was founded by veterans of the Union Army. So when Moore charges that they were really Klansmen who sought a legitimate front, he is challenging undisputable fact.
On top of that, the entire point Moore tries to make (the likelihood of a bankrobber getting the gun at the bank) is moot because to take possession of the gun, the depositor must:
1. Produce photo identification; making it inescapably certain that the robber would be identified and caught.
2. Give the bank at least a thousand dollars -- (an unlikely way to start a robbery) (1).
3. Spend at least a half hour at the bank, thereby allowing many people to see and identify him, and undergo an FBI background check, which would reveal criminal convictions disqualifying most of the people inclined to bank robbery.

Shocking as it may seem, there is a middle ground. Accept it and explore your newfound centrism.

I was a huge Michael Moore fan, and still love and stand by his first two films and first two TV series, AND his first book...but then when "Stupid White Man" came out, something happened...Moore become one of THEM.
A pundit.
And a really, REALLY bad one at that. Se7en is dead on calling him the liberal Sean Hannity.
Whereas before Moore could essentially just turn on his cameras and have his targets tear themselves down all on their own, Moore went on the warpath and seemed to think factual honesty could be left by the wayside for the sake of sensationalism and "gut feelings."
For those that think any exposes on Moore are just bullshit, check out Spinsanity. They're about as middle of the road as you can get with a site that cuts through the pundit crap. Very evenhanded. In fact, they're my source to wade through Hannity/O'Reilly/Coulter's bullshit, so I personally take their word on Moore.
In "Bowling for Columbine," Michael Moore once again puts distortions and contradictions before the truth (http://www.spinsanity.org/columns/20021119.html)
With his factually challenged bestseller, Michael Moore becomes an unfortunate poster boy for dissent. (http://www.spinsanity.org/columns/20020403.html)
Moore's myriad mistakes (http://www.spinsanity.org/columns/20031016b.html)
Dude, Where's My Intellectual Honesty? (http://www.spinsanity.org/columns/20031016.html)
The man did it himself. The initial question posed by "Bowling" (Why are Americans so violent, with or without guns?) was fantastic, but he quickly lost sight of it just for some flashy soundbites.

I liked the movie - very entertaining.
Moore lost me as a fan many years ago, though, and I avoided the film for a long time, but when I finally saw it I was impressed with the points it made about media manipulation.
Looking forward to his next one "Farenheit 911."

Michael Moore is very entertaining and I think the movie is worth watching. But it's not a documentary once you start changing the truth, which is a shame because it's not like he made the whole thing up, There are some valid points in the film, but he did slant things and that negates everything.
I hope he doesn't do the same for his next film: Fahrenheit 9/11. But I'm sure he will.

Bowling for Truth is run by Richard Bushnell. I went to grade school and high school with him until he moved to St. Louis during his sophomore year of high school. Probably the most charismatic and funny guy you'll ever meet.
