The Passion of the Christ question

How come Mel Gibson didn't have a black person play Jesus Christ. I mean all the descriptions of Jesus seems to be describe him as a black person or atleast a person of color. I'm not saying it matters but why not have an actor who isn't so eurocentric in looks.

Maybe because he was footing most of the bills and felt he could do what he wanted since he's the "Boss"??????

I understand that but if he want to be accurate then he should go with what the description of him from The Bible. I mean it's like if you have movie about Spiderman you wouldn't cast a blackperson right?
