They used to be all over Manhattan, there was one up by me in Hartsdale, NY. Decent steaks ad reasonable prices, not as expensive as sparks or smith and wollenskys.

All the beer, wine, and sangria you could drink.
My roommates in college took me to the one on Fordham Rd for my 21st birthday.

I thought I was goin' big time eating at Beefsteak Charlies when I went to New York and would take in a show.
What I really remember, though, is a Saturday Night Live skit in the early 1980s on "Prechew Charlies" where they pre-chewed the food for you - very funny.

It's funny, I just thought of Beefsteak Charlie's yesterday because I drove by where there used to be one in Nanuet, NY. Went there occassionally with the family.

All the beer, wine, and sangria you could drink.
When you are a poor, struggling college student, the lure of free beer easily outweighed the mediocre food.

We had one in Fredneck of all places.
It was in the dirt mall, though. And we used to refer to it as Prechewed Charlies.
I don't remember if I actually ever ate there. I think it's a Ground Round now.

We used to have one out here in Long Island near a beach in Bayshore. The building was HUGE! Now it's deserted and a haven for crack addicts. I've never been to it, but always wanted to. That place was the shit (so I heard).

My roommates in college took me to the one on Fordham Rd for my 21st birthday.
That's the one my parents used to take me to. I used to think it was the greatest place.
There used to be one near Times Square, I'm thinking 46th & 8th, just about 8 or 9 years ago. I thought it was the last one left at the time.

I remember going to Rustler's in the Garden State Plaza, before it was enclosed. I don't think I ever got to a Beefsteak Charlie's, but I do remember how annoying that shrimp cocktail commercial was.

I went to the one in Yonkers on Central Ave a few times back in the day. Was it down that far or am I thinking of the same one up in Hartsdale that started this thread?
Was Beefsteak the place with all the peanut shells all over the floor?

There is still a Beefsteak Charlies in Manhatten somewhere. Right on one of the Avenues. I forget which one.
Hell I still remember the guy who was in the commercials. Looked like he was about to join a babershop quartet.

Bowie, Md.: Berkeley, I'm so glad you're back!; I've really missed The Far Side all these years.
Berkeley Breathed: Yes, thank you, but I don't draw Far Side. I draw Calvin and Hobbes.
