The website is now up for this movie.
Very nice site. A lot of animation and interactive links.
They even have a game where you get to shoot the zombies.
I think I may like the site better than the movie although the more I watch the trailers ( including a new one ) the better it looks. I may have to do what I did with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and detach it form the original movie.
Go check it out :

Some more pics from the movie.
Major spoilers I think so don't look if you don't wanna lose any " surprises ". I think you can tell a lot about the finale ( who lives and who dies ) by looking at the pics so be warned.

when i first saw the first Dawn Of The Dead 'way back when' it was pretty cool. then i saw it a year or two ago and said "WHATS THIS SHIT"...

only problem is it takes place in a 'lighted' enviornment. it has a much better affect in the dark

i wouldn't pay to see the new one

I originally was not that fired up about it, but the more I see the trailers and stuff the more I want to see it.
It'll be good, taken outside of the premise that its a remake. I dont think they are staying too close to the original screenplay though.
I do hope that they give some explanation as to why/how the whole thing happens.

I saw the first 10 minutes last night on USA network. It looks very good, the zombies are not your usual slow moving creatures these guys can run. The special effects look very good. If you did not catch it, they will be showing it again on the Sci Fi channel tomorrow night.

... the zombies are not your usual slow moving creatures these guys can run.

So, not only is it a remake... it's a rip-off of 28 Days Later.

My brother has been shot.... I think it was an Asian gang.... there was this guy.... he was Asian.... they were speaking in some different language, I think it was.... Asian.

I, for one, am solidly behind the new "zombies run fast now!" movement going through the horror movie biz.

Zombies that sort of shuffle along at half-speed.....eh, where's the suspense?

Zombies that sprint right at you, full speed - NOW I feel the suspense.

The 10 minute clip last night was pretty good, BTW. This is definitely one I'm considering seeing.

Monkey, how can something rip itself off ?
The entire essence of this move derives from the first movie or even more Night Of The Living Dead. If anybody ripped anything off 28 Days Later ripped off the entire Romero genre. In fact that " running " zombies bit can be traced to Return Of The Living Dead, long before 28 Days Later.
But I for one dont think you can rips something off as you say. Does that mean no killer can ever wear a mask because Micahel Myers wore one first ?
Nobody can get killed with a chainsaw because they used that in TCM ?

Here are links to a few more ( 3 ) clips from the movie that werent on the previous Yahoo link.
The 3 new clips are :

2) I Like This Song

At the very least, they're riding a trend.

Not hating on the movie. If it's good I'll see it and like it. But the trailers give me the feeling that they saw 28 Days Later's rabid, amped-up version of the zombie and decided to hop on board.

I cannot believe I'm reading ANY positive buzz for this drivel. I really wanted to see Hidalgo, but was dragged to see this.

First off, Ving Rhames starred in the movie... as Ving Rhames. The guy is only good at being a black man of few words (and Don King).

Second, gore is to be expected in a horror flick, but
***SPOILER***

***SPOILER***
When they kill the blond chick with the chainsaw by accident, that was a little much. A lot of the scenes were confusing as to who was attacking who, but I guess that was for effect.

What was with Mekhi Phifer protecting his chick? I know it's your baby's momma, but give it up.

The security guard on a power trip made zero sense. I don't care how much of a prick you are, you would want everyone armed and would be relieved to have a real cop on your side.

The rich asshole was funny as hell. If they made him more of a comedic character and not an evil guy who is out for himself, it would've made for a marginally better movie.

Maybe I'm just pissed cause my friends can't appreciate a quasi-historical film like Hidalgo.

I figured that one chick was gonna eat it with the chainsaw just from seeing the ass-end of that one clip.
Dont completely ruin it for me but I can also tell from some stills that the one dude ( from that HBO show Mind Of A Married Man ) stays/gets left behind at the end huh ?
He doesnt look bitten so not sure why he would stay.

"Those are people who died..died..they were all my friends..and they DIED!" Everytime I here that Jim Carroll song, I jump up and sing it! This song comes at the final credits of Zack Snyder's remake of "Dawn of the Dead" (George A. Romero did the vastly epic original in 1977) so it's safe to say that Snyder is hip to the trip..Daddy-O. (the beginning credits have the late Johnny Cash) It's a good thing. The bad thing is that the new horror film is now old in story and script, thanks to last years amazing "28 days later.." which told the same type story only with more soul and terror. Don't get me wrong, I liked the new "Dawn" for it's pulse pounding pace and high level of gore. If this came out 2 years ago it would be a classic but it's too late.

James Gunn (Scooby fucking Doo 1-2) starts the movie with a good pre-credit nightmare made real with a young nurse on the run from her Zombie-fied husband (great camera work and F/X show the suburbs gone wild) and a band of folks hiding in the local mall away from the hordes of undead ghouls. Then we get the stock characters like the cop, the redneck security guards, the hood with a pregnant wife, the young girl, the nice hero, and of course the rich snot coward asswipe (DR. Smith?). Some nice touches along the way like a zombie baby and cameo alert from Savini-Foree-Reiniger original "Dawn" stars.

If you want to see better, watch the 77 version for a funny satiric movie, otherwise get out the popcorn and get the fast abridged version in local theaters. BTJ says "those are people who died..died..they were all my friends..and they DIED!" DAH DAH DAH DAH DADADAD!

I still havent seen this yet but I dont know why people are hung up on 28 Days Later. I mean it was a decent movie in the fact that it was a zombie movie and had that whole isolation feeling, but at times that movie was dragging.
I thought the entire premise with the soldiers, with the exception of when the shit hit the fan, was boring as all hell.
And again people are chalking up 28 Days Later as the modern Dawn when it was ripping off the Resident Evil genre from a few years prior to its release.
I think 28 Days Later was more " The Crazies " ( aslo by Romero ) than " Dawn Of The Dead ". So they not only " restructured " one of Romero's films, but in fact 2 of them.

Sorry to say it but Danny Boyle's 28 days script by Alex Garland was a tribute to the 'Dead' trilogy according to Garland himself in Fangoria magazine. Boyle had the script retooled to take out references to Romero's movie (more serious tone) to recreate the times of SARS and military intervention. But "the Crazies" was also a major influence as well as "Straw Dogs".

** REAL SPOILERS WHITED OUT **

I don't know if it can be stressed enough that this is not a remake of the original DAWN OF THE DEAD. With the exception of the title, the setting of a shopping mall, three lines of dialogue (that I counted), and one character with a similar name ("Stephen" and "Steve"), it's a different story and movie completely.

It should be viewed it as an addendum to the first movie (DAWN 1.2); odds are, in this zombie infested universe, other people also trapped themselves in a shopping malls everywhere. In the original, people were trapped in a Pittsburgh mall, and this one is in Wisconsin.

The best part of the movie (for me) was a scene involving the birth of the baby.Very creepy and unsettling and funny and also sad. You know what's coming the second you see this pregnant woman introduced (the entire audience I saw it with gave a nervous, funny gasp).

There's also a cool relationship between the people in the mall, and a man on the roof of a nearby building. One of the best sequences is a montage of them going about their life in and on the mall, as a Lounge Lizard cover of "Down with the Sickness" plays.

The violence was about what I expected from an R Rate movie these days. Lots of close ups and quick edits as blood spurts, giving you the impression that you see something. The woman with the chainsaw scene didn't bother me, because it actually seemed like something that could happen in this - not everyone is going to get it at the hands of the zombies.

And then there are the cameos - Tom Savini (special effects dude from the original DAWN and DAY OF THE DEAD, and director of the remake of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD) and Ken Foree, the original "big black man" from DAWN 1.1. They even gave him the honor of letting him repeat his signature line from the first one: "When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth!" This, of course, is the tag line for both movies. I'm sure I was the only geek who realized who he was during my screening of it, but it made me happy. Ken is actually a really nice, funny guy, so I was glad to see him get the love.Savini, on the other hand.well.

The regular cast was pretty good, especially Ving Rhames - yes, playing Ving Rhames...what's wrong with that?! Sarah Polley was also a good choice- wow! She has been around for awhile, starting as a child actress and moving towards indie films. I found it interesting that the audience, mostly young people, made nervous "tee-hee" laughter during a nude scene with her, that implied sex - very tame shower scene, actually - yet there was no problem whatsoever with the violence. A second nude, sex scene also got the gigglers to respond - we really are afraid of sex these post Janet Jackson boob days!

I love zombie movies! And maybe I'm being more of an old fart in preferring my zombies slow moving, always coming, you can stop one or two, but they will always, eventually get you, then the running, jumping, sprinting zombies in this movie, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD and from 28 DAYS LATER. Also, the other "twist" they added to the living dead mythos about ONLY those who are bit die and come back to life - no corpses from long since dead relatives, or gun shot victims, or whomever. Even in their TV campaign, they make a big deal about stressing ALL of humanity that has died over the centuries, and IMAGINE what would happen if they ALL came back to LIFE!

Lying liars!

I miss seeing the skeleton remains coming out of the graves, all dripping and slimy, like the gooey guy in RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. I also missed the all out feeding frenzy of the humans that we had the in the original trilogy, or those parody films - no fondling of innards, and ripping legs off to gnaw on later. Since they established that they return to life almost instantly, you really only got the impression that the zombies ate the living just long enough until they died and joined them.

All of that, though, is just personal preference, and none of it really takes away from the movie

I've been thinking about it and I still wouldn't recommend this movie to the casual movie fan. However, as I think about the horror movies I've seen, this compares favorably. Again, I'm no horror fan, but this was clever by horror standards.

From my point of view, this movie peaks at about the 20 minute mark. After they get to the mall, it seems to slow down. The characters that I personally liked ended up dying and the ending didn't leave much to the imagination. The last few minutes of the movie didn't make for a great climax, but I guess it had some funny/scary/all-around entertaining scenes. Not enough for me to recommend to a casual movie fan, but I highly recommend it to a horror fan.

Since were picking it apart I have things to add.

*In the beginning when we are following Ana in her car, a vehicle comes flying out from the left side, crashes into a car, and explodes at a gas station. The street that the vehicle came from was blocked by cars and the vehicle appears out of nowhere from behind a house already at full speed.

*How did they break into the mall? (Before the toilet bowl through the window scene) Why couldn't the zombies get in the same way?

*When Michael steps over the mop, and opens the door to find the zombie munching in someone, that person was still alive. What happened to him?

*Was Kenneth bitten or what? He had a bloody bandage on for the whole movie.

I still think this was one of the best zombie films EVER!!!

I finally saw it yesterday and I loved it. I was not disappointed at all. As a previous poster said, it wasnt even really a remake, more of a tribute ( along with a marketing ploy to put more fannies in the seats, as was evident by the top grossing this weekend ).
If die-hard fans, as I consider myself tobe, look at it as a seperate movie altogether, they'd have to admit it was a good " modern " horror movie. It did not get caught up in the non-sensical MTV trapings that previous " modern " horror movies did. You know what I mean, the name actors ( although there were name actors here, none of them tried to outshine the others ) that movies like " Scream " had in them. A lot of people lauded Scream as a great modern horror film, but I personally thought it sucked. Along with its sequels.
I think the fact that they didn develop any of the characters too much is what helped it. They gave you enough about them to make you connect.

The last 15 minutes were constant action and thats not a bad thing.

A lot of people in the theater where I watched it, missed the epilouge. They walked out before the credits and didnt see the REAL ending.
That was kind of a bummer, but those endings are beter than open ended " killer resurrected " endings.

I dont think Kenneth got bitten/scratched, I think that he just got cut in the fracas.

I didnt like how the people " turned " so quickly. I mean if the zombies were going to eat the people, as opposed to just biting them, why wouldnt that Steve guy have gotten more bitten up. It was as if the zombie was a vampire and just wanted to make him a zombie. I had problems with that part of it.

As far as the guy in the closet that was being eaten, by the mop zombie, there was a scene where they flashed away and you heard a gunshot. I assumed that to be somebody killing the guy in the closet as well.

I liked the CJ character. He was an ass in the beggining, but I mean the world was shitting the bed you know.

Was that a female President on the news reports ? Thats what it looked like to me.

I also was hoping for more of an explanation on WHY it was happeneing. But I think they leave that to each person's own ideas. Whether it be the religious aspect, a meteorite ( as touched on in Night Of The Living Dead, toxic waste, etc.

Lastly I think that one girl was more concerned about that dog than she was her father. I mean they shot him and 2 minutes later she's making out with that security dude. That was strange.

I have balls !!!

I saw it on Saturday. I loved it. It's the kind of movie where you lose your shit at certain scary scenes but then have to laugh because you can't believe such a dumb movie can elicit this reaction from you. It was non-stop action, not to mention tons of funny dialogue. We're used to our modern-day horror films full of one-dimensionsal, expendable teenage characters being hacked down one-by-one til it's over. This actually had a bit more work put into it, surprisingly. It was highly entertaining, to say the least. You MUST sit through some of the credits to get the full effect. Most people left when the screen went black. If that's how it ended, I would have been pissed. I haven't been satisfied with a horror movie in years, but this one is definitely worth a see.

Kenneth and Ana get away and bang like monkees and have lots of little Malatos......er.........uh..........bi-racial babies.

He starts by sticking his huge black smelly cock (since he can't shower) into her quivering mound of fuck pudding. Then he slams that pastey white ass while they both eyeball the area for zombies, occasionally firing off a shot or two. She screams

Ana: "Fuck me Ken!!! Slam me like no cracker ever could."

Kenneth: "Take it all my white trophy slut"

Ana: "Oh Ken, lemme put a finger in your ass"

Kenneth: "Ok Mama, but no red ball in my mouth, or I'll have to work on you with a pair of plyers and a blowtorch"

Ana: "Oh sounds like fun, my big stinky Nubian lover"

Kenneth: "Shuttup honky bitch, I is abouts ta shoot"

*BANG*

Zombie: "Ugghhhhh"

I saw this the other day, and I really, really enjoyed it. Not what I would call scary, even though zombie movies are really the only type of horror movies that freak me out, but quite a few good tense scenes, and some comedy thrown in. I'll definitely buy the DVD.

Well, remember that those who've been bitten turn almost immediately after death. If you're alive and manage to get away with only a bite, you'll slowly get sick as the infection ravages your body and you'll turn once you expire. But if, let's say, the zombie bites you and kills you instantly by ripping your throat out (as happened to Ana's husband in the beginning), then you'd turn almost instantly. Thus, perhaps the zombie bit Steve in an area where he died rather quickly and then came back immediately as a zombie.

One fatal flaw to all of it, though, has to do with simple logic: corpses rot. Rather quickly, especially when exposed to the elements. Theoretically, everyone would have been perfectly fine if they had just stayed at the mall for a few weeks (there would have likely been enough supplies to last them), as the dead would have rotted to the point where they would not really be a threat (you can't chase live humans if you're muscles have atrophied and / or rotted away).

I seriously don't understand how anyone can actually LIKE this movie and consider it good. Maybe it provides something you and your friends can get together and laugh at because of how bad it is (like the Leprechaun movies), but other than that, I don't get it.

As far as the guy in the closet that was being eaten, by the mop zombie, there was a scene where they flashed away and you heard a gunshot. I assumed that to be somebody killing the guy in the closet as well.

I would have assumed that too, except that the gunshots were very close together as if he shot one corpse twice. The shooter would have needed to walk a few paces into the closet to shoot the other one so there would have been a few seconds pause between the shots. (at least)

Maybe that's why they had the zombies running in this film. Over time, they will slow down considerably. By the time they remake "Day Of The Dead" the zombies will have slowed down and have parts falling off as they're walking/staggering.

Thanks Katylina, Monsterone, you make the shittiest sigs.

Lastly I think that one girl was more concerned about that dog than she was her father. I mean they shot him and 2 minutes later she's making out with that security dude. That was strange.
There's something that confused me. I thought the blonde chick (who was gorgeous) was banging the security guard, and then when the red-head goes to save the dog, they mention her as the security guard's girlfriend. Can somebody clarify?

Wasn't she (the blonde) the one who was yelling "Fuck me harder Steve!"?
Steve was the funny asshole who owned the boat right?

Ok, now I'm confused, too. I thought the hot blonde was banging the asshole security guard. I thought she said "Fuck me, C.J." The young girl Nicole hooked up with the nicer security guard, the one who locked up the other two. I assumed from the beginning that Steve was gay. He just spoke like such a fruit and it seemed like they were purposely portraying him as the stereotypical, latte drinking, arrogant, wussy gay guy.

Steve wasn't gay - he did bang the hot blonde, and if you see the ending credits (which I urge everyone to do, if they didn't stay for them), you see that they find old "home movies" of him on his boat....with women.

And again, this was a good zombie flick, and an altogether fun movie. I've seen TONS of AWFUL horror movies, more than you probably will in your entire life, but this was NOT one of them.

Yes, you're right! I remember the home movie at the end and I was even more confused. It's impossible that I'm the only person who thought Steve was queer. I hate when they do distracting shit like that in movies. It's like when they give a character a freaky, unusual name for no reason. All I do is spend the rest of the movie wondering why they would possibly write that in.

Had to come back and revisit this post to see if I had missed anything and apparently I did.

I thin the Steve guy was just supposed to be like a modern yuppie ( or dare I say that most dreaded, corny word " Metrosexual " ).

I read an interview with the director or writer and he said that the reason that he made the zombies run is that they really had no idea how decompsed they were and would push their limits Said that if they tried to lift something heavy and their arms fell off they wouldnt care because it wouldnt register and no pain.

I also read that of a proposed sequel that " maybe " not all of them died on the island.

I just say the movie on Thursday night and I really liked it. After sitting through House of 1000 Corpses on the previous Thursday, this was a nice change. I remember friends telling me that House of 1000 Corpses was the scariest movie they had ever seen. Frankly, I thought it sucked. I thought Dawn of the Dead was pretty good. After following the link above me (The one with the deleted UK Scenes) I think I saw the uncut version (a friend of mine burned it off the web) Maybe that's why I didn't hate this movie that way some of you did.

EDIT: Maybe not the UK uncut version, but the US uncut.
