No..."scuttle" has been out for weeks, "all over the internet." The official news will be announced today through the official website. Here's the screenshot of ozzfest.com as of 8am today:

Besides, the point of this was to get an official thread started.
There's a metal band named "Atreyu"?!?
My youngest godson thinks they are great.

Not sure where this condensending ball busting is coming from, but I guess I should have made it clear that by *official* I meant news was finally coming out on the *official* website today (11am pst), and not from "Kim at Concrete."
Silly me - when the *official* website refers to earlier reports as rumors, I read more into it.

I'm still a little down on Ozzfest. The year I went, I went to see Hatebreed and they didn't play. Very dissapointing.

Ozzy will supposedly headline - we'll see.
Now this begs a very interesting Q...
Q: Is there an Ozzfest without Ozzy?
I say yes. Take the year off Ozzy; the tickets are gonna sell just fine without you; many if not most are there to see the other bands [my opinion, could be wrong, as usual].
Janes Addiction [well Perry] started Lollapalooza, and it was great with Janes, and without Janes/Perry. Not that it was a Janes show ever, but it was a different line-up each year, all in the Lollapalooza name. Let Ozzy rest, or emcee the things and if he feels like it, he comes out and does a few songs with some of the other bands.
Just my $1/50.
And curtoid dont mind me, I'm nuts and my finger hurts like fuck. Keep reporting all the good stuff, we need it. You Rock.
Ozzy fears never performing again. I think some fans fear he will.

Mizzy: No prob.
I think Ozzy will drop out before the fest begins, but he'll be there to host it - or one of those leaches in his family will do it. If they want to keep this cash cow going, they are going to have to figure a way to do it w/out Ozzie.
As usual, though, the bands on the second interest me the most.
Tickets for NY and DC go on sale March 6th.
Jone's Beach - Tuesday August 10th
The New York show is Thursday, August 12th at PNC
The Washington DC area show is Saturday, August 14th at Nissan
I've gone to Ozzfest twice in the last 3 or 4 years, and have had fun. I have friends (a married couple) who go all the time, and 2 of my godsons love this kind of music. It's not really my bag, man, but I do have a blast.
I want Mojo to go with us this year and heckle Atreyu about their name!

If that is what the kids think metal is today, I might as well just go hang myself now. I avoided them for months and months and then by misfortune alone, I saw their video. it had to be not only the most laughable excuse for a band I have seen in some time but also one of the worst pieces of post-teen angst trauma I have heard in some time. The fact that this is on Victory Records. A label that I used to regard as one of the best in the hardcore genre. I guess this is what happens when Tony the King of Independent Greed sells hardcore music to porno films. Fucking SICK!
Lamb Of God is on the bill for Ozzfest too.
I hate large festival concerts because they are just so impersonal and there is always a fight of who has the bigger dick in the pit. I can beat you up and grunt a lot! Yeah, whoop-dee-shit. I just hope that Judas Priest will be doing a arena tour in the fall cause again, no way in hell, will I be caught dead at Ozzfest or any other corporately run piece of garbage festival show. Give me 1000 in a somewhat personal setting. A small theatre if you will. Beer and ego and "I can beat everyone up" in the hot sun is not my idea of a good time.

where did these summer festivals come from? yes i know they've been building momentum over the last 15 yrs or so, but they seem to get longer and longer.
just like movies, if a show goes longer than 3 hrs, i start to get bored, much less 3 days. if i'm going to sit through 3 days of music, i better be whacked out of my mind.

There's something about me that loves the large, cluster fuck ellement of any large event like that. Not sure why - ever since I was a kid and went with my family and 250,000 people down to the mall to see the Pope. I love large groups of people, just to observe (the writer in me, I suppose).
And you are right - Ozzfest is no where to go to actually enjoy a band, especially the smaller ones. Judas Priest, will more than likely get over an hour on stage, though, which would be great - and I can usually get my hands on lawn tickets for half price, as opposed to $60.00 + for what they would be for one of the area tours.
It's either one way or another with me - either a small, tiny club, or a big monster mess.

I did the big monster mess for Lollapalooza 1992. Which is by far one of the best shows I have ever seen. The Chil Peppers when they were still good and Pearl Jam in their prime. Ice Cube, Ministry and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Great show. Fortunately, I was up front and din't realy bother with the crowd behind me. I have also been to the Warped Tours when they were still kind of small. I wouldn't touch them now. The Skate & Surf was also pretty cool because it was not entirely overcrowded. There was a nice calm about it with 3 stages and it all felt like little shows in one. Maybe Ozzfest is like that too, I don't know. And believe me the band list is quite enticing but I think I will just wait for the arena and/or club shows to come around.

I remember when Warp Tour was held in the parking lots of the big stadiums - those were fun.
Both Ozzfest and Warp are 100% corporate now, though - how dangerous is something when YooHoo Chocolate Drink sponsors it??? ha!
Like I said, though, it's an afternoon sitting with friends and god-brats, watching people, and occasionally hear some music. It really will depend on if the kids want to go this year - they are 21 and 16, and have commitments all over the map.

The first warped tour I went to was actually Inside RFK, if you can believe that. There were probably only 3 - 5 thousand there and it was sick
Social Distortion, Pennywise, Less Than Jake, Suicide Machines, Sick of It All, the Bosstones, H20, and more that I can no longer remember...
The next year it was moved to the parking lot of RFK, which was still Ok.
Once it moved to the Nissan Pavillion parking lot it became no fun at all. My dad and I road tripped to shows the next two years, just cause we didn't want to see it at crappy Nissan.

this year it looks really good. Throwdown is definitly ther band that will steal the show. They are one of the hardest working hardcore bands with morals and great work ethic.Hatebreed should give an insane preformance. Unearth will be spectacular, Their new cd is phenominal. Bleeding through is definitly another band worth checking out Brandan is an amazing front man with lots of stage pressence. Atreyu is also good. It's a shame slipknot is on it. As for the main stage The original lune ups for slayer and judas priest. Plus black sabbath. It should be an amazing show that i wont be attending.
