Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy in production, set for 2005 release (http://imdb.com/title/tt0371724/)

Is there any chance they'll get this right? LotR really raised my standards for book to movie conversions.

Disney should have nothing to do with this movie, either...

They had a BBC tv version of it that didn't look too great. Perusing the cast, it doesn't look like anything spectacular.. but you never know.

Sam Rockwell as Zaphod is a good, fun choice; Martin Freeman was a regular on the hysterical British series "The Office"; Mos Def is an interesting choice as Ford Prefect.

It will all henge on the director - Garth Jennings - and he hasn't directed anything! Eeeeeesh!

Love those books - I never thought they would make good movies, though.

How much of the story are they going to tell? BBC Radio & TV shows were only the basis for the first two books. Will they go through all five?

The script was written before Adams passed away by him, so it should be fairly true to the book. It only covers the first book. And I saw the test shot of Marvin and he looks really interesting. I have high hopes for this.

Only sci-fi I can stand...if you can call it that.

i've been reading that movie is the 9th version of the story, if you include the radio series, LPs, books and video games ... although the books are the most popular, they aren't the definitive or original version of the story ...

i always thought that adams used each medium to tell the story a little different (to try to fit the medium appropiately) ...

adams wrote the script, and and tweaked the cannon to fit the big screen ... i'm sure it will follow the arc of the first book, but might have completely new elements to flush out the plot ...

loved what i've seen so far, can't wait to hear alan rickman as marvin ...

Just remember to bring your towel, in case the movie isn't that great.

The fact that Adams wrote the screenplay means a lot. There is obviously going to be deviation from the book, as it's a different medium, but I'm sure the main narrative will still be there in all it's glory. Hopefully the director didn't try to add too much to it.

They should have had the opening on 4/2, though.

The worst part is that if/when HTTG is a successful film, we won't have Douglas to write the sequels.

I liked it, but i do feel you really had to have read the book to really get it, I had read the book but there were still somethings that didn't get across that were protrayed in the movie, and the ending in the book is a lot better than in the movie anyway, but i guess that just how most books turned into movies go, alittle is lost in the transfer.

<p>Thank you , Mojo. I was just about to say that changes to the story, addition and or removal of characters and plots are absolutely in the tradition of the series, whether in the book, film, radio or television format, so getting upset about them is ridiculous; almost antithetical to the spirit of The Guide. Adams was absolutely involved in the sreenwriting process, so what you see on the screen is what he wanted, plus or minus. The slappy things on Vogsphere, for example, are a new bit, in fact that entire part was new, but still had the Adams touch, so fuck off. The only problem I had, and this is more my fault than anything else, was separating Martin Freeman's Arthur Dent, from Martin Freeman's Tim Canterbury. I kept waiting for him to look dead into the camera with disbelief&nbsp;at the antics of Zaphod.</p><p>I liked the film. I thought all the actors were excellent, particularly Sam Rockwell, but then again, duh. I went with 2 people who had never been exposed to the story at all and they laughed their asses off. So, to sum up, although it was not the story from the books, nor the radio series, nor the TV series (which holds a special place for me being that it was my first exposure as a child), I thought the film was a success. </p><img src="http://members.hostedscripts.com/randomimage.cgi?user=blakjeezis" border="0" /> If I were any better, I'd have to be twins!! <font color="#ff0000">INRI</font> White people are so scared of blakjeezis<font color="#ff0000"> INRI</font>&quot;Well, maybe there's a god above, but all I ever learned from love was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you.&quot; &quot;When I am dead, I hope it is said: 'His sins were scarlet, but his books were read.'&quot;

<p>My brothers were all really into the books and tv show. It was the movie version of the story - what can I say. Either you like the story and the turns it does in your head, or you'd rather have something right between the eyes. It was a hell of a lot better than the stinkfest hollywood has cooking up for the summer based on the previews I saw.</p><p>Very Terry Gilliam with a bigger budget -great visuals and fun. I loved that the theme was practically untouched -maybe sweetened or cleaned up. Then, of course, the cameo of the original Marvin.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I don't think my wife got it at all</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>i finally got to see it today ...</p><p>absolutely brilliant, i loved this movie ... i've read the five books over and over again, and the movie really captured the feeling and tone of the book ... </p><p>i wish there were more&nbsp;scenes from the book, and a little more of the&nbsp;<em>guide --</em>&nbsp;but cast and writing was great ...</p>

<p>I never read the books but plan on doing so aafter seeing the movie. </p><p>I
loved it. Probably one of the best movies I have seen in some time. I
am a bit biased though cause Martin Freeman is one of my favourite
actors. I need to check out the old TV shows as well.</p><p>Off topic,
I caught the preview for the new Batman film. I couldn't believe what i
was seeing. This just looks horrid. A horrid pile of complete garbage.
Why do they have to keep on recreating these characters and doing new
movies and making my comic book heroes from when I was a kid all dark
and futuristic looking. A real shame. I pray that the Fantastic Four
doesn't serve up the same dissapointment for me.&nbsp;</p>

Batman has the good buzz, FF doesn't.&nbsp; Personally, I hate movies
that use that piss yellow color pallate (Crow 2), but I'm really hoping
Batman is good.<br />

I'll handle this - I'm British; I know how to queue.

I liked it, a lot. Needed more Ford, that's my only thought.
