Universally Pretty Vs. Preference Pretty

And if you're a chick, go ahead and replace "Pretty" with "Handsome" or whatever works. My roommate and I were discussing this at like 4 in the morning last night. First let me clarify what I'm talking about:

A girl who is Universally Pretty is just good looking, according to the standards of society and the majority. There's really no denying that a Universally Pretty girl is hot. HOWEVER, she might not "do it for you". I can see a Universally Pretty girl and say "Yeah, she is gorgeous, but not really my type".

That's where Preference Pretty comes in. This is a girl who you just see and think "Wow, she fits my taste perfectly." This girl may not be recognized by EVERYONE as hot. She just has something about her look that "does it for you".

So I came to the conclusion that Preference Pretty is better for dating and/or relationships, and Universally Pretty is better for a good lay. It's a strange debate though, because you kinda want to be able to walk around with a Universally Pretty girl, who is just hot, no matter how you look at it... You know, to show her off, and let people know you did pretty good for yourself. Another quirk to this is that the Universally Pretty girl has more to look at in bed. But is that really something worth holding on to? I argue that it's NOT.

I agree. I'd stick with the preference pretty, because if you stay with the universally pretty one, everyone else would want to be with the universally pretty one, and it would just be too much of a hassle.

There is this chick that works at this bar near my house. I was there drinking with my buddy, and I pointed her out. I told him I thought she was really hot, and I was definitely into her. He said she was cute, but nothing special. After looking a few more times, I could see what he meant. I could see why everyone else would say she was just ok. But still to me, she was hot as hell.

So to get to the point, I would definitely rather be with her, who I think is gorgeous and everyone else just finds cute, than with a girl everyone thought was hot. Don't know why, just do.

That's a good theory you have going there, although I dunno if I'd use the term "universally pretty." The standard aesthetic of female beauty has changed throughout time and can vary from culture to culture, but I get what you mean. i can certainly understand what you're talking about, and i think that it happens all the time.

I know what you mean too. I am attracted to women that are not necessarily considered the most beautiful, but who have certain features that just do it for me. I dont think I would be comfortable with a super model type, because I know other guys would be checking them out and flirting with them and it would irritate me. There is this woman in my office who I am best friends with and she is an absolute knock out. During breaks, we go together to the cafeteria and as we walk past everyone, they all gawk and all conversation stops and I see the guys checking her out and I think; if she was mine it would bother me. She knows shes hot, but what I really like about her is the fact that she is so down to earth and kind and it adds the prefect sweetness to her physical beauty. I prefer a woman who has the physical traits I desire and has the type of personality that makes her uniquely attractive to me that makes me want her as a mate. The other more universally attractive women that dont have that personality arent attractive to me and I view them as just a pretty "object" for lack of a better word. I know Im no Brad Pitt, but the women who have been attracted to me are attracted to what inside and overlook whatever physical shortcomings I may have. Those are the ones who I want to express my love toward beacuse they accept me for me.
