So now that music videos are really a thing of the past (fuck you MTV), well at least cool original ones (the pop punk shit on Fuse doesnt count) Lets all sit down and remeber those good ones.
Remeber the Jamoriqui video, Virtual Insanity where he was walking around dodging moving couches, and dancing and just being a one hit wonder?
Or Black Hole Sun, on of the scariest and trippiest videos?
God I miss these videos, the need an MTV Classic, just all those great early 90's videos.

I used to love the Foo Fighter's "Everlong" video. Any Pearl Jam, RHCP or Alice in Chains videos were pretty kool too.

Plus Mark Romanek. You see a video directed by any of these four guys, you're probably in for a good one.

And A Perfect Circle's "Judith" video.
Courtesy of David "Fight Club" Fincher.
He directed a bunch of big budget-looking videos in the late 80's and early 90's, like "Janie's Got a Gun" and "Rock The Cradle of Love" before making it out to Hollywood.

King's "Love and Pride" from 1985 - a tribute to the high-top
Dead or Alive "You Spin Me Round" from 1986 - so much finger wagging; gave Dr. Laura her idea
No...seriously...
BEST Music Videos is a tough one. All of those directors Mojo mentioned were great; I saw one of those iconic videos from the 1980s (I swear I want to say it was an early Paula Abdul) and I could have sworn it was Fincher.
I also have strong opinions of the first times I saw "Baby Got Back," "Head Like A Hole," "Wicked Game," "Express Yourself," "Can't Hardly Wait," "November Rain," "Hit Me Baby One More Time," "Take on Me," "Roam," "Enter Sandman," and (I know it's a cliche) "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
FOR ME, however, the one video that stands the test of time, and it's not even a song that I really like, is the Janet Jackson (I am so timely) "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" (http://www.mtv.com/bands/az/jackson_janet/audvid.jhtml#)

At one point Wu Tang Clan used to make some of the best rap music videos. I liked the video from GhostFace's album based of Speed Racer. I also liked the video they did for the song Truimph were they flew around and transformed into bees

VH1 Classic has a pretty good representation of the older videos. I haven't seen any of the early 90's ones yet but give it time and they are sure to be there.
The thing I don't get is when, or how long does it take for something to be considered classic? I still think of the 70's era as "classic rock" but how about the rock that came out in the 80's? Arrgh! Labels!
Tool's videos were realy great and for the time being so was the music. I think last month I pulled out Undertow and man does that music really stink without the videos to go along with it. I am thouroughly dissapointed myself with that cause I used to think Tool were actually good! What a waste of money that was and now I couldn't even get a buck for each disc. In general that whole pseudo rock-techno-industrial garbage that had the emotional substance of a wet sponge like the Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson and pretty much anything else that got all dark and brooding for a while there really was some horrible shit. I still own Pretty Hate Machine?!? They all had a meeting with recycling last week.

It probably was him.
The man's video work really didn't indicate how dark his material would get as a filmmaker.
He was really the first one to make videos on a regular basis that looked like movies, as opposed to the "one-shots" you'd get like Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

Nine Inch Nails' Head Like a Hole and Closer
Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit (cliche' now, but back then no one did a vid like that)
Anything by the above 4 directors
Buggles' Video Killed the Radio Star
Def Leppard's Photograph
I remember what a big deal it was when Wax's California came out and people were afraid kids would set themselves on fire.
