View Full Version : Sex & The City: Disgrace To Humanity

I've never seen the show... until right now. I've always thought "Oh, it gets great reviews and awards. I'm sure it's a good show, but it's a chick show, so it's not for me." Well, it turns out I was being generous by giving it the benefit of the doubt. After seeing this show tonight, my hope for the future of mankind took a pretty steep nosedive. The fact that people rant and rave about how great this show is, when all it is is a pathetic and shallow illusion of "reality", is gravely disappointing. These extraordinarily materialistic, gross, old women, who think they're sexy, doing things people don't do, having relationships people don't have. People are actually brainwashed by this shit... enough to apply it to their lives. I am so sad... I'm just gonna keep watching Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I'm just gonna keep watching Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Not tonight you're not.
It was replaced with a chick flick.
In fact a movie about how strong women suffered and struggled to get the rights they so deserve today.
Which is what Sex and the City is about anyway. Right?

I think it's the othe way around, in that a bit of fact, or a lot, makes the basis.
Forget her name, but SexinTC was based on a very succesful book, that I haven't read, but I hear is an excellent tome on the struggles of the author and her friends. How much reality corrolates into the book, and the show, I have no idea.
Looked promising to me first couple of seasons, and then... havent seen one since.

My point is that you have to suspend belief with just about all of television, less we think 24 could actually happen in a single day and Larry David wouldn't have been shot by now. The truth of the matter is that there are people who do have lives similar to the ones on S&TC (much more so than shows likes The OC or Friends).
Besides it's not TV. It's HBO. And I'm very bored.

I'm glad last week concludes this cluster fuck of a television show.
I've come to the conclusion that I hate all four women. They are terrible people. Miserable, insatiable cunts...the whole lot. (Except for Samantha, who's "i gotta be me" thing has worn itself completely out, along with the cancer storyline)
Horrible. If she ends up with Big I'll spit on the television. The Russian is a great guy, but he's not "New York"...fuck you....what girl wouldn't die to live in Paris with a millionaire artist who loves her? How much do you NEED you twat?

How is it a disgrace to Humanity exactly?
It's a show about 4 women that happen to be very succesful and have sex lives that while you may not approve of, aren't too far from the reality of most women.
There is exageration of situations, but every TV show does, both for effect and comedy. In any event I find Wrestling to be far more repugnant than this show, since no one would sit their kids in front of Sex in the City to be entertained.
And Jeff, money isn't everything. I missed last night's episode, so I'll get back to you with my decision about her twatness once I see what Big brought back.

I really hate this show. When I saw it, I found the characters to be far too self-absorbed and annoying, so I jumped ship during the first season. As a result, I have no idea what some of you are talking about concerning the developments on the show.
By the same token, unless it has gotten markedly worse from the first season, it is far from the most abhorrent thing on TV.

For years I've been hearing about how great this show is and I've never known anything of it because I didn't have HBO. All the hype sort of made me sick because I hate the typical sappy chick shit and it just looked to me like the type of show that fat old women watch. A friend finally got me into it about a year ago and I absolutely love it. Of course it's exaggerated. It HAS to be. Who wants to watch a show that is totally plausible? It would be as boring as our own everyday lives. The great thing about this show is that even though some of the situations are exaggerated, the aspects of their different relationships with men are totally on-point. There have been countless times that I've been able to relate to the show, which is what draws women to it. On top of that, the four women are different enough that just about every woman can see parts of themselves in at least one of them. There's the dumb, wide-eyed optimist, the crass slut, the cynic, then there's Carrie who's supposed to be the more level-headed everywoman. I'm not surprised men don't get it. I can't even believe I get it. I haven't seen last night's yet. There's no way they'll make her go with Petrovsky. He's such a pompous ass. He makes me sick. How could anyone like him after last week and the way he looked at her friends during dinner? Steve asked if he knew any Billy Joel and he looked at him like that was the trashiest, most uncultured thing to ask. Fuck that arrogant, pretentious queer.Horrible. If she ends up with Big I'll spit on the television. The Russian is a great guy, but he's not "New York"...fuck you....what girl wouldn't die to live in Paris with a millionaire artist who loves her? How much do you NEED you twat? Let's completely forget about whether or not she loves him! He's completely not for her. They have nothing in common. On the other hand, I don't want her with Big either. He treated her like shit. I don't think any ending I can imagine would possibly make me happy.

Amen, sister. Who cares if it's realistic or not? Homeboys In Outer Space wasn't realistic and that didn't stop it from sweeping the 1996 Emmys.

What? He loves her, supports her, romances her, genuinally wants to be with her...its way more than money.
Some girls would settle for just not being punched in the face.
Fuck Carrie. She's a fucking twat.
And he's not arrogant, Carrie and her friends (and thier boyfriends) are all a bunch of uncouth, low class fuckholes with no taste and no class.
How dare she talk about her vibrator at the dinner table? What the fuck is her problem? That's totally inapprorpiate for a dinner discussion.
And Steve asking an artist trained in classical music if he knows any Billy Joel?
It's a classic example of New Yorkers thinking thier shit doesn't stink. "Yeah this is New york baby"...you know, fuck New York City....I'd live in Amsterdam any day of the week over NY....

And he's not arrogant, Carrie and her friends (and thier boyfriends) are all a bunch of uncouth, low class fuckholes with no taste and no class. When did being a real person and saying what you feel become "tasteless and classless"? Of course, talking about a vibrator at dinner is inappropriate. That's Samantha's character. However, Petrovsky showing no discretion and giving Carrie's friends that disgusted look of death when they were simply being themselves was CLASSLESS. Money/being an "artist" do not equal couth. People who believe they do are the real trash. I can't stand that artsy-fartsy douche bag. I'm pretty sure that's what we're supposed to think when seeing his rude twat of a daughter. "Art and culture" are a pompous, witless person's answer to "class".

Ok, so I saw the episode, and what you see as Carrie's twatness, I see as someone dealing with confilicting emotions.
As far as your definition of class, I don't dislike the Russian as much as Lisa, but I have to say, there's nothing less classy than his and his "classy" friend's ability to make Samantha feel like a worthless piece of shit.
The true sign of class isn't money, or discussion topics, or even formal education. It's the ability to make others feel comfortable around you; to feel that they only have to be themselves in your presence and not who they think you want them to be.
Unfortunately, while I see them have many happy moments, she's not comfortable around him.

I'm torn on the Big issue.I just watched last night's episode and I'm torn as well. It's like we're supposed to hate him because he jerked her around and ruined his chance, but at the same time, we have to like him because we know no one else can make her happy. He busts her balls, keeps her on her toes and is the only man she's been with that didn't seem like she had to talk herself into wanting. After last night, he's totally grown on me. We've all had that guy that fucked us over, yet we gave him chance after chance anyway. I love this show!!!!

Samantha goes gay again and her & Carrie live happily ever after with Smith serving as their sullen, yet dedicated houseboy?
Tha nature of man is to explore. Not just the Heavens and the Earth, but also the human condition. The nature of man is to search himself.
Big never lied to Carrie. Never led her on. Never was anything short of brutally honest. She loved him and he just wasn't there. He's there now. He's searched his heart and is there now. And shouldn't be penalized for taking the scenic route.
Now root for them, damn you!!
The Russian IS a snob, but not in a bad way. Samantha IS crass, but not in a bad way. It simply comes down to compatibility. And Carrie and the Russian just don't have it.
I will end this post now because Bravo's The West Wing marathon is back from commercial and Winnie Cooper has blossomed into an incredibly sexy looking lady. Kevin Arnold was a fool. Just like Big was. But I digress.

I watch the show cause it WAS good....then it fell into all of the usual pratholes of a sitcom, except their allowed to say "fuck". The show became formulaic and predictable and in the end utterly forgetable. I have less emotional interest in the characters now than I ever have.
These aren't particularly good people. Miranda thinks she's too good for BROOKLYN? You know how expensive it is to live in Brooklyn, never mind owning a brownstone?
Samantha and Jerrod make zero sense to me. What does he see in this aging geriatric? He can have any girl he wants? She isn't particularly good to him either...she cheated on him right in front of his face...and he took her back...why? It's not like he couldn't get better, younger women at the snap of his fingers.
Charlotte I never liked really. Too pretty to feel sorry for, to rich to feel sorry for...sorry, the fact you can't have children isn't enough to gain my sympathy...
As for the Russian, his friends aren't snobs, they just don't know Carrie...how many times did your friends bring people you didn't know around and you didn't talk to them? Fuck, Carrie doesn't even speak thier LANGUAGE! The Russian is attentive, considerate and compassionate, he's just a little busy at the moment.
As for Big, that guy fucked her over one too many times, and he'll do it again. He is emotionally unavailable, he always was. He doesn't get it. Personally I don't care really. That storyline is a wet towel that has been wrung until every drop of water is out.
Curb is the way to go people.

If she ends up with Big I'll spit on the television
I am not so happy with the finale. It was ok, nothing special. Why couldn't she just be single and have NY as her boyfriend like in that one cheesy sailor episode? I would have been content with that. "John" treated Carrie pretty shitty over the years and didn't deserve her and the russian just plain sucked. He's divorced for a reason. I'm glad she left his ass and took his necklace.
It was cool finding out Big's name after all these years. That's about the only thing I found satisfying about the episode. Good for Charlotte and her little gook baby, good for Samantha enjoying sex again and great for Miranda for taking in Steve's mom...that was just god-awful. I'm glad we don't have to witness life in the suburbs for Miranda, Steve and Steve's looney mom for another season.
Another thing that pissed me off. Carrie knows noone in France, doesn't speak the language then she meets the President of her fan club and doesn't show to the party they throw for her??? To be ignored by the russian? I would have left after 5 minutes of waiting for him. Don't look so surprised honey when you show up 5 hours late and they're not there waiting for you!
