For those who had em' pre-1995. What model (if you remember) and how much did it cost to use? Mine was this monstrosity:

Motorola Piper. Got mine the end of my junior year in HS. Thought it was hot shit. Did'nt dare make a call with it at the time cuz' of the cost per call.

Mine was made of candy!

Homer: [on candy-cell phone] Hello, Lollipop Island? There's a little girl here who had too many sour balls.
Lisa: [grows and stalks off]
Homer: Anyway, where were we? Hello? Hello? They hung up.

Ron: Who is your favorite broadcaster who was an athlete?
Caller: uhhh Joe Theisman
Ron: If you're not going to be serious, don't call in, OK?

Gosh, I can't remember what it was. It didn't flip. It was big and black and heavy and I got it some time in 1993; I remember using it during our senior scavenger hunt to keep in touch with the one other team member who had a cell phone to see how we were doing on collecting stuff. I rarely used it; I don't recall how much it cost but I remember I had Bell Atlantic.

1997, still a big, bulky Nokia. be damned if I remember the model number. The thing couldn't hold a charge in its battery and the AT&T service was shitty.

TooCute? I think that wasn't a cell phone. I think you were talking into Fred "Rerun" Berry's ear.

I had one of the "bag phones." Which was like buying a hooker and then she ends up in the dumpster.

Or something.

my first was one of those tracphones where you'd go out to like 7-11 and buy the minutes. Then youd have to call up from another phone just to add the minutes. I couldnt afford more than 20 I think back then, and the minutes would go FAST. Finnaly last summer I think it was I got a real plan with ATT. Cant say Ive been happy with them though,as far as bills.

Nokia 2160i, nicknamed "The Brick" because it was the same size as, and as heavy as one. Got it because when I worked in TV and went on remotes, my boss needed to talk to me some times and my company was too cheap to pay for the phone, but they would reimburse me for the minutes I used for work.

Had 150 minutes per month, which cost $35.

I now pay $30 for 5300 mins, with a larger calling area and my phone is about the size of a pager.

Check out the mirror sunglasses and the spiffy hairdo. The sad thing is that 20 years from now, people will look at pictures of us and think we're retarded tools, too.

My first cell phone came in it's own carry bag with a shoulder strap, just a little smaller than that suitcase earlier up in this thread.

In 1989.

It was expensive as hell and calls almost always got cut off mid-conversation, so I eventually got rid of it. But I do have the distinction of having been able to talk on my cell phone and drive at the same time, in the `80's.

I rock.

In a chair, because I'm old.

The first cell phone pictured...I had one of those still in 2000.

it was a nokia BUT it was verizon

The only time I had a cell phone or a beeper was at work and on call for that week. Aside from that, never had a personal cell phone. If you left a message at my house phone, I would call you to return your call or not. ;)
